CLASS OF 2019 REGULAR DECISION APPLICANTS

High fives to all the scholarship winners. Those are huge, especially at NYU, and you all deserve it. And good luck to everyone else in these upcoming weeks!

Also, I love the name, @KristenBells62. I don’t know if it’s referring to the actress or not, but regardless, she’s awesome.

Congrats to everyone who got a full tuition scholarship… As for me, I still have to wait three more weeks :((

@KristenBells62 Thank you so much!! I was accepted to the College of Arts and Sciences. I received the email at exactly noon yesterday. After doing a bit of research, the scholarships are extremely few, and the reason why they notify you early is because they fly you out in mid April to see the school. Thus, they try to get airplane tickets bought as soon as possible. I wouldn’t get discouraged for others. I know many people from my school and others who didn’t get my scholarship but when they received their financial aid award received ample enough money to cover their tuition. And their rewards didn’t include loans.

Congrats @fcallicotte‌ and @wilguen‌ and everyone who got in! Did you all get a full ride? If you don’t mind sharing, what were your stats?

Why do we have to wait so long. It’s 3 weeks too much.

What are these scholarships based on, holistic or just stats?

did anyone get a scholarship with NURSING?

It seems to be mostly in CAS

@Curlyllama @Foreverindia I definitely think it was holistic. My stats are not the best. SAT: 2250 ACT: 33 GPA: 3.75. I am Hispanic which means I am a URM. I come from Arizona. I think my extracurriculars are pretty dang good. I have been in Speech and Debate for four years, Student Council for 3 years, started two clubs on my own, I am the president of four of my activities, and I started my own tutoring program for my school. I have already been accepted as an Echols Scholar at the University of Virginia as well. I come from a low income background. Also my essays were not stellar by any means. My Common App was talking about my parent’s divorce and my NYU was talking about how I love how they were so global and how I would be a leader at NYU…very generic in my opinion. Again, I think this was really holistic. My scores are kind of up there but my GPA isn’t really where it should be at. It is for full tuition by the way. I still have to pay for room and board, meal plan, books. etc. However, I am still eligible for need based financial aid.

@fcallicotte wow that’s awesome! congrats!

I was hoping I’d get it because I reaallly need financial aid, but I’m middle class (from an income-only standpoint) which means I’m kind of screwed. I haven’t gotten merit based anywhere yet, which is kind of disheartening. I have a 2320 SAT and a 3.8 GPA, so I was hoping for aid from at least one school, but oh well. Do you guys think they’re done sending out scholarships?

Congrats again to everyone!

Dean’s and MLK Scholarships are historically given to the best URM applicants who show great academics and great perseverance although there may be a few who are not URM who get this scholarship due to their genuine, friendly nature and their extraordinary community work. It just makes sense to do it this way - These scholarship winners are going to get involved within the New York community by volunteering every month and they are also going to be the ones who represent NYU in community-based organizations. They are not just going to give it to the kid who applied to NYU as a safety with a 4.0, 2400, and a whole bunch of Science and Math ECs, because well, he’s probably not going to the best for the program.

@Curlyllama I do not think they are done sending out scholarships at all. Perhaps for the Deans scholarship they may be done but there have been many people who have graduated from my high school who attend NYU and they received their merit based scholarship after they had been accepted. Also these merit based scholarships were beyond fantastic considering the reputation of NYU. I definitely believe that you will get some type of merit based aid so I would not lose any hope on the matter. Also considering your stats are higher than mine, I do believe that if accepted you would get into the Presidential Honors Scholar Program like I did. From what I understand from the website, the scholar program is dependent on stats alone and is offered to the top 5% of the entering class. So if I got it then you should definitely get it.

@DJFlash I was hoping my “friendly nature” came across…lol.
and I’m not the “kid” you’re describing…I genuinely do want to attend NYU.

@fcallicotte Thank you so much and congrats again!

@Curlyllama Yeah, it’s tough, but I have very similar stats (albeit my ECs are more science related) to you and I applied EDII (so they really didn’t have any incentive to reel me in). I got a 30K CAS scholarship and another 2K scholarship and my EFC was 33K on the FAFSA. So, it’s not over yet

@DJFlash hmm I hope not. My EC’s are all very community-service and art-oriented; I’m applying as an English major.

congrats, btw!

Hahaha, shout out to those people who had 78 dollars as their EFC!

OMG I got in with the MLK Jr Scholars Program so thats full tuition and flying out there in April!! so ecstatic. Oh and I’m not a URM.

@sleepingfordayzz Oh my god! Congratulations! Can’t wait to see you in April!

@DJFlash An Asian kid at my school got the MLK Scholarship, and yeah you’re pretty much right. He’s not the smartest dude (still very smart though) but he’s always helping out the community… He goes to Southside Queens, Bronx, and Brooklyn to help out, and he’s logging mad hours at the soup kitchen and is very active in the LGBT community spreading awareness throughout the school

Applied to Nutrition sciences at Steindhart. Really nervous about this.
