So… How about them Mets?
I hear they may let Harvey pitch 200 innings this year.
@myloves =D> and the emails/letters and even phone calls that are NOT about what you wantto know (is the kid accepted?) Are insane. There was one school in particular that I wanted to contact and tell them to STOP until we had the only info we wanted- “yes” or “no”!
LOL @myloves!! Every time we get a piece of informational mail from one of “our schools” I want to scream – I KNOW, I KNOW…we love your program/school. Let my kid in!!!
D got a letter this week with “Fine Arts Department” as the return address that actually said, “Congratulations” on the envelope. It was more marketing fluff, not an artistic admission.
It is a cruel, cruel world.
@EmsDad, that is the cruelest.
Here’s something to throw out there and I don’t know if it will be at all helpful but it was good advice I got from a parent who had gone before me and I have to say it helped. If you have several options and all things being equal, choosing a school that has easy airport access could make getting to and from so much easier. My daughter is only 20 minutes from a major airport and can be home in 6 hours. I have a colleague whose son is at Cornell. Trying to get this son back to California for breaks etc has been a nightmare. It never occurred to me that I should care about this but I am so glad it worked out.
I agree about the transportation. My D has an acceptance to a great school with a good scholarship that is smack-dab in the middle of nowhere. Takes two planes to get there and two planes to get home and about 12 hours of travel. It was good to find that out sooner than later because all schools she decided to apply to after that are “one plane cities” that get her home in +/- 6 hours with decent proximity or transportation to the airport with no need for multiple flights/airports.
My best wishes to all. This is a nerve wracking time for students and parents alike. But in the end I hope all your children wind up in a place they love (somehow it seems to turn out that way!), and I know when you look back you will treasure the memories of going through the process together.
You are so right about the travel issues. Have a friend who went to an audition weekend, that due to snow, turned into nearly a week-long trip to return home. I think there is a reason some schools do most of their auditions at Unifieds! (Of course, those were an issue this year as well)!
No, the cruelest is when they continue to get mail after they have already received a rejection. That has happened to many CC kids over the years.
My H and S driving today through ice, sleet and snow to get to IU audition. Ugh. not fun
I hated that! There was one school I did contact last year, (endless emails about continuing application after artistic rejection) and even they didn’t stop. We ended up blocking their email
Any of you getting audition fatigue? This is our fifth cross country trip and my D’s twelfth and last auditon. Just hard to come up with the same excitement that I had for our first trip in October – especially when I am wondering how we are going to get home to California because of the weather. This is truly a marathon and I feel like I am hitting the wall.
Yes actually. So much so we cancelled a couple. And we were not that many compared to others!
Last big trek next weekend. It was supposed to be a double audition weekend, but S let one go after an early acceptance from a higher ranked school on his list. Then, one more in-state. Then the waiting. Thank goodness for the distraction of the spring musical!!!
Diva, I’m starting to skip the information seasions all together. Same ol blah blah.
Must be time to hang it up and go back to work.
This really is torture. Keep thinking it needs to be over but if it’s no for all of them then I keep thinking what did we not do? Part that really Stinks is when people say “oh… You know she will get into her first choice.” REALLY? I DO? If I did then why am I fairly certain that it won’t happen. Then what?! UGHHHHHHH
Breathe MTnewbie - nothing you can do to change the outcome so try not to let it drive you crazy (I DO NOT lead by example in this manner LOL).
@MTnewbie1 I feel your pain. I was told the same thing over and over, even on this site. And I kept wondering what will my sweet daughter do if she is the one anomaly who gets in NOWHERE…and it came true. She got in NOWHERE. (She was admitted off one wait list late in the game). I thought our lives were over. But she loved her safety even more than the BFA she ended up getting into and has just completed her first semester. She is in heaven. Hang in there…it’s torture I know. PM if you want to talk. It’s truly nothing that you did or didn’t do. It’s not about talent at this point. All these kids are talented. It’s just like how it will be when they hit the big time and audition for jobs after graduation. Tons of talented kids, but you could be too tall, too blonde, too old, too short, too freckled. I didn’t believe that when those last year told me the same thing, but I see it now. It’s the truth <3
@bisouu thanks. I’m so glad your daughter is happy. I do know things happen for a reason. However, right now I put on the brave face and tell her everything happens for a reason but I want her to go where she wants… And I think deserves. Then I just pour a glass of wine and, apparently go on random “rants” on this site.
