When I made mine I thought- “oh I’ll go on that site a couple times, do a little research, then done.” I didn’t intend to actually question/respond (and I did lurk for several months before I came into the conversations), I just wanted to be able to keep track of which threads I had read. Ha!
I have been the evilqueen for years, lol.
bisou is “kiss” in french…my degree in college
I have been an observer and as a parent of a hopeful MT have felt all the emotional ups and downs of this process and now I would like to ask a question? We received an email from IU that states “they are still assessing the potential Fall 2015 Freshman class and you have been placed on the “short list” for consideration to be offered an invitation to join our program” Has anyone else received this? I am not sure if this is a waitlist or they haven’t made the final list. I know that some have already heard from them with definite yes and nos. Thanks
@swotrb I do not know for certain. But I think that does not sound like an official wait list yet. I think an official wait list email usually indicates you are on a wait list and how their wait list work. Nonetheless, it is a very positive email to get!
Sometimes I think schools want to notify kids that they are still under consideration so the student doesn’t accept an offer from another school because they think they didn’t get in the other program they are still waiting to hear from. They are saying, wait, we’re still thinking this through, and you are still under consideration.
Again, I don’t know for sure, but at this point, the answer can still be Yes, Waitlist or No. But the good news is, they obviously like you enough to want to keep you in contention and want you to be aware that they like you that much. I would look at it sort of like the “priority hold” system some other schools use.
@swotrb, yes, that is Indiana’s WL email. We got it 2 years ago and we asked.
CCM kept a HOLD of 5% of applicants until auditions were complete, then notified of status immediately. I would consider it a positive email.
Each school seems to use its own terms. Even if two schools use the same term it seems unlikely to carry the same meaning. Deferred, Hold, Priority Hold, Wait List, Priority Wait List…
If every school used the same system - then people could apply logic - and have a sense of how things were working, and where would the fun be in that? (Heavy sarcasm intended)
Silly parent!!
Does anyone know/remember when Syracuse and UMich are notifying?
Syracuse mid March @ the earliest I think bc they have an audition 3/6. Not sure about U Mich
Michigan said after their spring break, which began today.
I knew you would all know! Thanks!!
@bisouu… I always wondered about the source of your name…yo hablo solamente ingles y espanol!
March should be an exciting month!
@bisouu moi, je parle un peux de français et j’aime vraiment ton username
@tmygirl - the past several years, Syracuse notifies in waves over 3 (or sometimes 4) Fridays. So, every Friday in March, a wave of acceptances, denials, and WLs comes out. THERE IS NO RHYME OR REASON TO HOW THE DECISIONS ARE RELEASED. It isn’t alphabetical; it isn’t based on when you auditioned…it appears totally random. There are acceptances, denials and WLs in EACH batch. We were, of course, in the VERY last wave. The waiting is hard. But that’s one of the schools you have to be very, very patient for, and PLEASE don’t read anything into the order in which you do (or don’t) get your answer. (Personally, I think they toss all the decisions in the air, and crawl around on the floor, blindly grabbing the batch they will contact that week.) Good luck!
The syracuse thing was maddening last year! D was in the 3rd “wave”, so at least she didn’t have to wait until the very end. The good news is- you knew they did it on Fridays- so no need for obsessive checking the other days of the week
Ugh
