Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

My S may have said he’d be willing to consider both because his CMU portal has always said MTH in the first box and ACT in the second.

Unless something has changed at CMU (it could have), all MT applicants are also considered for Acting, without having to indicate such. My D applied to CMU for MT. She got Priority Waitlisted there for Acting. To my knowledge, this has been the situation there for quite some time.

I think they ask the kids at CMU if they are ok with acting because some kids only want to do MT and are not interested in doing just acting. Barbara likes to know this when they audition.

Ok, well thanks for weighing in on this. I do believe MT kids are all considered for acting. Am just wondering why my portal says MT only. Cause I sure as heck don’t know if it originally said both or whether we checked one or two boxes. That was another lifetime ago. :expressionless:

I don’t think the portal makes any difference at all. I’m convinced they are going to choose whoever they want, even if that portal says basket weaving!

haha! I am sure you’re right about that. I could have learned how to do that in the months we’ve waited for decisions. (:expressionless:

I’ve said this before- D and I took up crochet last year after auditions (I had learned from my grandmother when I was a kid- she learned from youtube - generational differences) and having something to do with our hands (rather than stare at the mailbox or computer screen) was super helpful! I worked on it again when D (an only child) left for college in the fall- and by the time parents weekend rolled around I had made an afghan for her dorm bed

Has anyone here NOT received their notification letter from Pace? Letters with no’s/alternate/waitlist status were supposedly mailed over a week ago. Got nothing here.

Can anyone find the suggested/required curriculum for Point Park MT students? I found the course catalog and the core-courses (gen ed), but that’s it.

@pghmusician They hide them well.

My Ds friend is still waiting to hear from Pace also.

Syracuse emails are going out. Fingers crossed for those waiting!

We haven’t gotten anything from Pace either…

Hello, all! I’ve been a lurker but I want to congratulate you all on your acceptances and let those still waiting know that I am also pulling and praying for your kids to get that offer! I’m hoping someone will be able to answer my question, which came up recently in a discussion among local theatre moms. Does anyone know what percentage of our kids that pour their hearts and souls into getting into a college MT or Acting program actually go on to find employment and be a working actor? We (at my house) know the chances are slim, but we are remaining supportive of our S through the process. Thanks in advance and thank you all for all of the useful information that you post on CC!

Search on ManVan seems like he posted some kind of depressing % list like that once LOL

Too many moving parts in that question. You would have to define “find employment” and “be a working actor” as well as control for the fact that “a college MT or Acting program” is not a requirement for either.

Syracuse email came. D was accepted!

@herewegomom‌, congrats, a yes for my D as well. Fingers crossed for everyone else waiting.

@sloopysnoop See above post #3155 and from an old discussion on a thread about the value of union membership:

“Some people with MFA degrees from Yale School of Drama never earn a living and some high school dropouts are stacking up piles of dough. This profession is completely unpredictable and training is far from a guarantee of employment. Do not make your training decisions based on a desire to “make it”. Train if you believe it is making you a better artist. That is the only goal you can work toward. Employment will come or not but there is no clear, straight path.”

Yes. Congrats also @mtflmomf1. There are so many “false alarms” about “when”, it’s helpful for me to know (and hopefully others too) that yes, in fact they are happening. Wishing everyone Great News!
