Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

Not a peep from Syracuse here either.

Farewell Glee. How many of us are in part because of that show?

Glee finale was great… They almost lost me a few times over the years, but I hung in until the end. Worth it. Fantastic ending!

Gotta love Matthew Morrison…a CAP 21 alum!

I see little very about Syracuse…anyone know when/if they have informed all auditioners?

From everything posted here before, they sometimes take several weeks, sending notifications on Fridays. If that holds true, possibly just started later this year. Every other acceptance my D has gotten, her FB lights up with new friend requests from current students and the other admitted students, and a private media site is created for the group. That hasn’t happened with Syracuse, so leads me to believe that maybe all decisions haven’t been released.

Also Suny Purchase…any word out there?

Decisionishers, On the drama board, someone posted that they were accepted to SUNY, and that all the calls went out. My D didn’t get one of those calls though…

There’s an acceptance on the theater/drama board. I think the calls went out.

ah. ok. thank you! we still have happy decisions to make! best of luck to all!

D just accepted to Boston University. Know theatre program, but has new MT endowment / concentration. Decisions on portal.

^^^Congrats!

Is the BU music theater concentration an auditioned program? My daughter applied to BU but had no knowledge of the music theater concentration… Auditioned for music theater programs at other schools though.

@mysongbird, re: MT at BU, I think it’s a track you choose at the end of freshman year. Not sure about how or whether it’s changed their audition practice, though.

It’s my understanding that classes in the MT concentration will start being offered Fall 2015. Not sure yet what the process will be to take those classes, however, my D did express interest during her audition. Until now, BU has been a theatre program with an emphasis on movement and voice, much like UNCSA.

Congratulations, @limbo2019! My S was also accepted to BU this morning and we are trying to find more information on the new MT concentration. If anyone knows something, please post! Thank you!

Congratulations to you too FoxInSocks. Have you read the article in BU Today, Broadway Team Endows Musical Theatre Concentration?

This year’s BU freshmen are still choosing between Theatre Arts BFA and Acting BFA. They are not being offers an MT BFA. My understanding is that it is a concentration you can choose within one of those BFA’s. S’s friend - supposedly a poster child for the new MT focus - is still deciding between the two original BFA tracks. The MT focus will be a crossover between the School of Theatre and the School of Music. Truthfully, not sure how it will work out - a good deal of students (including my son) chose BU initially because they did not want MT. I hope they still produce the same amount of straight plays for those students. BU musicals have been kept to one big one every other year, and the casting is open to the whole campus, with many VP students trying out. Nothing against MT, and I understand that more training across the board will result in more jobs for these kids, but I hope BU adds to their existing program with the MT focus without taking away from the straight acting program.

Thanks for the tip, @limbo2019, just looked up the article and will read it right now.

^^ Oh, also wanted to mention in case anyone was looking at Opera, the Boston University’s Opera Institute puts on a lot of operas throughout the year. The SOT kids do the tech work for them and it is a nice exposure to opera, and a chance to get to know not only opera, but to meet students from the School of Music.
