Finally heard back from Point Park today - an acceptance the day after I deposited to UArts! Funny how things work
Itās only money, @theimmortalfish ⦠If Point Park is your dream school, I say go for it!
@EastchesterMom it was a pleasant surprise, but I really love UArts and itās definitely the place for me.
PPU has a wonderful program though and itās really nice to have another acceptance!
Then hie thee to the Final Decisions thread and tell thy story, @theimmortalfish! Congrats!
@theimmortalfish - yay! Another UArts kid! Congrats!!! My D is just finishing her freshman year and LOVES it!
I am going to UArts as well! Iām actually on my way back from Philly right now. Itās not official though because I havenāt paid the deposit!
@MTVT2015 I was just wondering about what you decided and then you posted! Yippee! You had nice options andI know it was challenging between the BA and BFA schools and all of that. But in the end, I imagine you will be very happy pursuing MT at UArts! Congrats! You followed your passion. (and I bet B.R. is proud of you too)
Thank you so much @soozievt! I will post my background and add myself to lists as soon as itās official
My S and I visited Hartt and were pleasantly surprised. The show was EXCELLENT! Does anyone know more about the Dance aspect of the program? As I understand it the dance classes for the MT kids are not under the dance department. Is it possible to minor in dance so that he could take the classes in the Dance Department?
@Jrdirectortommy - When D visited she attended 2 dance classes and asked a lot of questions because she really needs/wants to improve in that area. She said that the dance for MT was not combined with Dance majors, but if you have AP credits that you come in with to knock out some Gen Ed requirements you can add extra dance classes and sometimes if you are an advanced dancer, you can add those through the dance dept. (I would check on the requirements for that). She also said you can very inexpensively add dance classes through the Community Division, which is excellent. We didnāt see Drood, but Rent was very well done and she was particularly impressed with the Acting instruction. PM me if you want more details. D is 99.9% sure she will commit there (holding onto that .01% hope of waitlist movement)
I had a weird possible change of heart today - I got an official acceptance letter from Point Park offering quite a generous talent award and money is definitely a consideration. If I could be just as happy at PPU as UArts and pay less for it then obviously thatās an option. The only thing with Point Park though: I was accepted into acting! Crazy.
Oh the temptation, @theimmortalfish ⦠maybe some PPU and UArts veterans can chime in here and help you! Calling @annelisesmomā¦
If you talk to UArts and show them the award they might match it. The financial aid office is really flexibleāit came in well below our EFC. By far the cheapest school on my list, in the end.
Iāll see what I can do. As an international student, some of the financial stuff can be a little more complicated.
What a hard choice and I have a week to make it!
Or maybe youāll get off that wait list and the decision will make itself!
Well if that happened I would probably die before even getting to college.
unfortunately last time I called the admissions office, I was told that the chances were very low.
Thatās too bad, but good that you have other options! I would definitely talk to UArts to see if they can match the money and to Point Park to make sure you like the programs equally/that youāre okay with straight acting. Itās going to be great no matter where you go.
Yeah, Iām really happy with how this has turned out. Iām actually flattered that I of all people got into straight acting. I have no training outside high school drama class. So that feels good.
@theimmortalfish - definitely contact UArts financial aid. We had the same situation - PPU offered more scholarship money (as did a couple of other schools). I contacted UArts and they upped their offer within 24 hours so it became a wash between UArts and PPU money wise. And my D preferred UArts (the program, location/proximity to NYC/etc.) so it was a done deal. Good luck!
