Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

@divamamcita and @transmom we also tried making the audition appointment and it wouldn’t let us. I also think they haven’t set it up yet. Hopefully by monday it will be working.

Not to sound OCD, but @transmom, @Patrice13, @divamacita—When did you SUBMIT your Ithaca prescreen? We are anxiously waiting. Submitted Oct 15th.

@MTkellbell my D submitted on Oct. 15th.

YES, @Divamamacita‌!!! Titanic was AMAZING!! I don’t think I knew what to expect but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

@MTkellbell – end of August. But, we requested a date at Chicago Unifieds.

Is anyone going to be at the Carnegie Mellon Sleeping Bag Weekend this weekend?? Is anyone auditioning on campus as well???

MTkellbell, we submitted on or about Oct. 15 as well, and asked for one of the Unified dates. Cannot recall which one at the moment.

Hmmm… well, I’m wondering if we might hear from Ithaca today? A few of you submitted on the same day we did. Wondering if that means bad news for us??

I spoke with the Ithaca MT office and they said that several faculty members need to review each prescreen. I asked when should we be worried if we don’t hear anything and she said that all prescreen decisions should be made by mid-December. It did not seem like they are necessarily taking them in order – my D submitted on August 28th and we have not heard anything yet. Keeping fingers crossed. I wonder why some programs are so much quicker at reviewing these? We heard from Penn State within a week and Elon gave us a date by which we should receive an answer which just made it easier to keep on top of. Oh well!

@divamamacita Thanks for your response…it definitely makes me less anxious!

I think different schools use different processes. That process continues to evolve as they increase their use of prescreens. I do know 2 years ago, Michigan divided the prescreens among its faculty. One of them fell ill and the students whose prescreens he had found out their results much later than others. As you can imagine, it caused great concern from those students who had not heard from Michigan when they knew others had. But the delay was simply because the faculty member fell ill…
It seems some schools are just giving a cursory glance at prescreens and want to see a large number at live auditions. So lots of people pass their prescreens and seem to get quick responses. Other schools seem to be making a deeper cut during prescreens and may therefore spend more time reviewing the prescreen materials. Some schools let all faculty review prescreens so that also takes time. Others just have one decision maker. So response time really depends on the school.
Hang in there! The waiting is the hardest part of this process both now and in the Spring. But you will get through it! Here’s hoping you all get great prescreen news soon!

I would not worry about Ithaca. Recall that on Friday I tried to schedule the Ithaca prescreen and could not. (I think Patrice13 had the same problem). Today I logged in and there it was. The entire schedule! Many, many, MANY, audition spots available! They have a lot of on-campus audition slots AND are apparently attending all 3 Unifieds, it appears on all days. So you can imagine… Other than the December audition date (which was full) only about 6 slots had been assigned for ALL of the other available slots. So its WIDE open right now. They have hundreds to notify! I have no idea why we were notified “early” but honestly, I would not assign any significance to it at all.

Ithaca is a Unifieds member school, so they’ll definitely be at all locations. This is Ithaca’s second year of the prescreen process and I’m sure it’s still a work in progress as they fine tune their process. I wouldn’t be concerned, folks!

@tramsmom your post made me smile! Thanks for the detailed info.

We are now ‘technically’ outside of the 7-10 days for Texas State nofication… submitted on 10/21. But, if we only count business days, we’re still in the window. Not stressing yet. Has anyone heard from TSU? How long was the turnaround?

@MTmom2015 We submitted on 10/15 and still havent heard a thing! I emailed on Thursday, and asked if they had received our letters of rec (thinking that may hold up a response). Today they replied “yes, your letters have been received” Thats all! No mention of decisions or the face that we are now pushing 3 weeks! UGGG!

I know in the past Ithaca even stayed Thursday morning at the Chicago Unifieds.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a CMU audition spot? I applied to the school and everything has been sent it, and the BFA MT website says that after you apply, you will get an email with a school code to use for securing an audition spot.

I received an email last week from TSU saying that they had not yet made a decision on my S’s prescreen and that he would be notified through Acceptd as to the decision. Did not give a time line for getting back. Maybe they just received a lot of interest this year.

@attheballet I read on another thread on CC and then had my daughter follow what it said and it worked. Instead of waiting for an email from CMU, just go to their web site and click on “scheduling audition”. That should take you to decision desk to schedule the audition. I think this is how she did it. Good luck!
