Back at CC after a 2 year haitus. Our oldest son is musically inclined too and eneded up at Berklee College of Music (singer/songwriter). Our youngest son loves Musical Theatre and is making the 12 school audition rounds. Passed all 4 of his pescreens and is now engaged in auditions. First up was Chicago Unifieds and 6 auditions. Next LA unifieds and a pair of auditions. This weekend - on campus audition. Next weekend another on campus audition. A week of and then 1 or more in another city depending on whether a unified pre-screen was cleared.
Experience to date has been mostly positive but no decisions. Fortunately for him his best interview to date was at his #1 target. He had several individual auditions at unifieds with this school, and they then invited him back after a break so they could all watch him together, and then after all auditors came around the table to greet him. He reached out his hand to shake theirs, and instead was given a hug. Good sign, right? At least we hope so, but you never know. Many of his schools, including this one, don’t share decisions until late March. I guess we just have to hunker down for a long winter’s wait.
^^^It is so variable and crazy with the MT programs in this regard. However, with many regular selective colleges, there are similarities…For example, most of those schools notify on April 1 or a couple days before that.
@tylerjohn from how I understand it Texas State has one more audition weekend Feb 21/22 after that they will send out messages via accepted if you are still in the running. Then it could take another couple of weeks until they put their class together
Yes she was; gave us a nice intro and talk. Including the 'you may get passed between people; think nothing of it". It was like listening to Barbrady saying “move along, nothing to see here.”
Bonski, I am assuming the “hugs” came from CMU- Cant think of any other school that has people in different rooms. (Except 2 rooms for Michigan last year)…but understand if you dont want to state the school.
I don’t see why not, @KaMaMom. Although, someone else may beg to differ. I think it would show her willingness to be a team player. Maybe, “Member of the ensemble, serving as swing for several characters.”
Yes! Include it. My S was asst dir on the winter show (Death of a Salesman) and we included it. Having a variety of skills & experiences is a good thing.
What is everyone doing about the schools that keep emailing about housing selection and deposits? We have academic acceptance, but still waiting on the program acceptance. This was mentioned at the Western Michigan audition last Friday - they have housing for fine arts students near the theatre and they said to get deposits/requests in now, even if we don’t know if D will get into the MT program. It’s refundable, but still seems premature, especially when we have so many schools to deal with.
