Congtats, @destiny95.
Here is a share. Saw D’s first production at Viterbo this weekend. Pretty cool to see a dream come to fruition. Class of 2020 you have a lot to look forward to at your respective schools. <:-P
So glad you have found your new home, @destiny95!
I committed to Marymount for theatre studies with a dance minor (and I’m going to continue voice lessons in the city as well) and I would reaudition but I’m still on the waitlist for MT. Does anyone know of anybody who got off the WL at MMC? Are waitlists really worth hoping for?
^^ Except that Steven isn’t tall.
Last night I went to opening night of D’s final HS musical. It is bittersweet. It was a great show but it feels like the beginning of an ending. I know the next phase for her will be wonderful. But it is hard to let go…
Ditto @MomCares
YIKES!!! D JUST got the call that she’s off the waitlist and accepted to the University of Maimi! She was all set to go to BoCo. What do we do now!!! Anyone have any advice? She had a GREAT experience visiting Boston Conservatory. She fell in love with BoCo’s program and the kids (so did we), but she was still yearning for a college campus and “real college experience”, which Miami has for sure. Are there any Miami MT students/parents that can give us some insight into the program and how it compares to BoCo? Thanks!
@SingerDancerMom you have just described my D 100%. Pretty sure she is committing to boco for the program, quality but she really wants “regular college” – and she has several offers that fit that mold, but that we don’t think meet the quality of boco. congrats on the miami offer! they have a wonderful rep – great school, but $$$
Yay congrats! I suspect many more situations like yours to come up, as it is now WAITLIST season! Lol. I say, if she feels BOCO is the right fit in her heart then do it! It is worth the sacrifice of a normal campus experience, BUT if the campus experience and environment is more important to her, than it will be crucial to go with that gut feeling because it will surround her for the next 4 years, and I know that was definitely an important factor to me when deciding (small vs. large and campus vs. industrial or urban setting). best of luck! She will thrive either way. @SingerDancerMom
I love @destiny95 's wisdom!!
Yes, @mtmamma2020 SAME EXACT SITUATION!
My daughter has 9 acceptances, many regular campuses, and some really good programs, but head to head, none at the level of BoCo. As of this morning we were completely settled. Then an hour ago she called to say Miami called her and she’s in. This has really thrown us all of a sudden! BoCo is incredible and the more we learn, the more impressed we are, but she’s 17… sunshine and surf, big 10 sports, and lots of beach boys, plus we hear that the MT program is top rate, it’s going to be tough for her to turn that down… But is their program BoCo good??? How could it be? UGGHHHHH!!! You mentioned money? Is it more than Boston Conservatory? Haven’t even looked at that yet. We didn’t see this coming at all. She thought she blew her audition so we didn’t even research it.
What are your daughter’s other choices?
@SingerDancerMom - Congrats to your D on coming off the waitlist @ Miami…My D actually just declined their offer b/c of finances…since she didn’t apply until after the deadline for merit scholarships (she walked in @ Chicago Unifieds), she got nothing but the (generous but not enough) artistic scholarship they offered. Broke our & her hearts, but in the end, we just couldn’t justify the price tag. She also wanted performance opportunities from the get-go, and Miami doesn’t allow Freshman to audition for shows… Luckily, she is just as in love with the program she committed to, so she’ll be OK. Good luck making your decision…
Also, if your D is on The Troupe, she should be able to get someone to add her to the Miami MT accepted students group where she can communicate directly w/kids who are already in the program. My D did - it made it even harder for her to make her decision b/c she loved all of them (even though she only met them virtually)…they were very informative & encouraging & enthusiastic about their program and the school.
I agree – get your D on the Troupe and find the Miami accepted page and start talking! Miami’s campus looks like a resort! Google image it – gorgeous. We are waitlisted at Miami It has all the raw raw stuff my kid would love, although mine hates heat and wants snow having come from the west coast. I am going to IM you and we can chat more. Total struggle giving up real college – ours is from a PA high school so she wanted “traditional” college but I think she will end up at boco.
She is already on the troupe. I’m sure she’ll chat with some kids when she gets home from school today. I’m just in a bit of a rush to get info since May 1 is almost upon us. I look forward to your message @mtmamma2020 !
@SingerDancerMom Congrats! In the end it will come down to affordability and fit. BoCo is hard to beat from an intensive training standpoint, but if she’s looking for the college experience, Miami may be a better fit. In the end, my S chose a great MT program on a college campus over BoCo because he wanted his college experience to more than MT training. But each kid is different as to what they are looking for. The struggle over what school is going to give them the best chance of success is real (I think about it every day). They will have a lifetime of MT. The training will never end. But,they have just 4 years of college and in the end, they have to be happy.
@alwaysamom - D has had the great pleasure of sharing the stage with him, so I’m pretty sure she can add the proper number of inches. ![]()
Pasquale’s resume says 5’11. I wouldn’t call that “tall”… Though I wouldn’t call it “not tall” either
He is definitely shorter than 6’ which is what I would normally think of as tall. I’ve been at several events with him and he is rarely the tallest man there.
My S is exactly 6’. He has one resume that where he lists his height as 5’11" and one 6’. Depends on the role. He is not generally the tallest man in the room but is on the “tall side” of his classmates.
