My daughter is 6’ and I tell her to put 5’ 12 " on her resume
@bisouu ,
Whoops reply did not go through. @bisouu ,
It was just a smiley face:).
@bisouu - I used 5’12" for years
Daren’t let my boy be measured any more. Last time, he was 6’3" but I have a sneaking suspicion that he is now at 6’5". Stop growing already! That said, he carries it gracefully and always walks tall! @bisouu, wish we were at the same school so that he could pair with your daughter! He looks pretty silly with his gang of 5’3 girlfriends.
@claire74, my son also added another inch or so to his 6’ after going away to college, but fortunately, at least his feet have stopped growing!
S hopes 6’3" is the last height change he has to put on his resume. Feet seem to be good, but shoulders keep expanding. All those beautiful, extra-slim jewel-tone “audition” shirts - donated.
There was a point in my S’s life when he was outgrowing shoes at a rate of about 1 size a month. We were like, okay, stop now, or you’re going to be shopping at big and tall stores for the rest of your life.
Tap shoes. He always needed bigger tap shoes. Waited until he stayed the same size for more than 6 months before we bought the expensive ones - 3 years and still holding.
@mom4broadwayboy, yikes, we just bought some tap shoes this morning! Hope they are not going to be too small by August! And, boy, are those large sizes expensive!
Getting a little nervous about D being in the first BFA MT class at Tampa. I know they have had a BA but now that it has been revamped should be interesting to see! I am sure all you MSM parents can relate! Wishing there was a past class to give some support and guidance but excited to be able to share some info for the next class next year.
How is it I never clicked on this thread before? Now after reading old posts for an hour I wish I had. I was USUALLY too busy researching other things for which I thank you all!
Anyway… I have a financial aid dilemma/question and posted the below in the financial aid section of cc… And instead of answers I got tons of comments about not taking out loans… Finding a cheaper in state college. " because I’m sure this degree is offered somewhere else cheaper" and people flat out questioning my sanity I regards to MT degree and loans/debt. Aauuugghhh. I got no real answers and it’s one day before May 1!!! I realized I just should have just asked theatre parents instead.so here goes.

Hi a quick question for some of the more experienced parents. I will have to take a parent plus loan for Ds college. Her first choice is an OOS state school. I am worried because i came out of a long drawn out bad divorce with a bankruptsy ( 2010) not great credit and now medical bills outstanding. I will not have a cosigner for about 15k. I can not put the application in until May 1 for her #1 choice. Choice 2 is a private school about 20 min away from us which is twice the cost but with her awards and scholarships and if she lives at home I will only have to take $6k loan. We want to go for the OOS school because it is the degree and program she wants and she loves the school and area. So the dilemma is she has to decide by may 1 for all her choices and scholarships and the #1 school I can’t apply for the plus loan until May 1. And what happens if it doesn’t go through? My option is to put the $300 down for school number two. In case school number ones loan does not go through. The deposit is nonrefundable after May 1. But the interesting thing is school number two I could apply for the parent plus loan now. I did it the other day and got a letter back saying my credit was approved via Equfax And would now just depend on information from the school. At this point they don’t even know how much I would be borrowing because we had not accepted the scholarships and financial aid formally With school two. So I’m assuming that they went with the possible full price of tuition which is more than twice the amount that I would be borrowing from for school one. So if I got approved for school two. In theory I would get approved for school one at half the price? Does that letter generally mean that the application will go through? And now that I have one application in for the plus loan for school two. …Will it be a problem if I apply for the plus loan for school one? Aauughhhh so confused… And feeling the pressure of the May 1 deadline. I just don’t want her to end up not having anywhere to go. And all her options for her programs gone.
( for MT parents school 1 is UAB with BFA. school 2 is Carthage in Wisconsin with BA MT )
And before the questions start like the other page… Yes I can afford it. Yes it is budgeted in. No I do not have other outstanding debt, i work two jobs and Have a steady income. I am committed to helping my daughter go to school for what she wants to succeed with in life. Yes out of the 16 acceptances, and 8 musical theater acceptances, this was the best fit… And a financially sound decision for my situation compared to the cost of some of the other schools she was accepted to. You guys understand that… The people on the other page do not.
I just don’t know if I should take that credit acceptance letter to heart And just trust (assume) that I will be accepted for the plus loan at UAB. Or pay the $300 deposit at the other school to cover bases just in case.
@TaylorsmomWI, I’ve heard that some schools will refund the deposit, especially if you can show need. There is no guarantee, but you may want to do some searches to see if Carthage is likely to do that. I believe it’s a well-endowed school, so it’s possible.
@TaylorsmomWI - I cannot answer your specific question about the parent plus. But I wanted to say that I think the difference between the loans form the 2 schools should not keep you from choosing the best fit.
@claire74 By all the emails they keep sending me it seems pretty firm that it’s non-refundable. and that’s fine ( although you are right it doesn’t hurt to ask ). It would just be $300 for my piece of mind. Ya know?
@toowonderful I AGREE!!!
And I know other theatre parents understand that!!!
And I have no problem with the larger loan. I just need to make sure it goes through. My ex was the one doing unscrupulous things with credit cards/loans and spending the college savings $ on his own extracurricular affairs (which I had no idea about until the divorce started ) and I am working my way back to good credit on my own. So I just worry because I have been Dealing with the aftermath of his mess for the past 5 years!
Although… Maybe after months of the whole audition process… I’m in the sort of mentality that I could get “rejected” lol. Thank God I went to school for nursing… Not MT!!! . I could never have handed the stress of so many auditions, waiting to find out if I was accepted into the program… And the chance of rejection.
INHO If you can afford the $300 deposit to give you piece of mind then do it. If that would be a hardship then its decision time.
@TaylorsmomWI, I have taken out a Parent Plus loan for my S at LAMDA. I considered the debt worth it in his case. I am divorced and a single mom of 5. The bad news is that due to a short sale, I did not qualify for a Parent Plus loan. The good news is that I was able to have a cosigner. Is there really no one in your case who will cosign? As far as borrowing, Parent Plus lets you know immediately online if you are approved. The amount you request is not relevant. I’m not sure what the letter you refer to means.
I would definitely recommend paying the deposit. I would view it as an investment. I think it is highly unlikely you will get that back if you decide not to go, even showing financial need–that’s the idea behind a deposit. But regardless, I’d pay the deposit to hold the place and give you peace of mind. That buys you more time to make a more informed decision. Good luck!
