Class of 2020 (sharing, venting, etc)

Thank you @connections ! I got a letter ( online right away on the website saying "we have approved your credit for the Parents plus loan you requested ". So… I’m in!

And in the mail today just got a letter congratulating D for winning an outside scholarship from our area! $1400!! Yay! A few more and the loans will get smaller!

@Joyfulmama my daughter committed to Tampa today. She was accepted at Boston Conservatory BFA MT and Niagara University BFA Theatre Performance, wait listed at Emerson for BFA MT. After visiting both Tampa and BoCo she felt that Tampa was a better fit for her than BoCo, the big concern for her with Tampa is that it is a newer BFA and she doesn’t have a real handle on it. That’s why I asked you the question regarding performances…I guess we will know soon

Yay!!! @1027fam Excited to know another Spartan!!! My daughter has zero doubt in her decision, it really is great to see her so confident. She just got a really great feel about the program. I will trust her intuition!! When your D joins the Tampa FB group there is a subgroup of the MT girls. I can PM you how she can join that group.

@Joyfulmama, thank you so much! That would be awesome!

So it’s May 1. I was able to do the application for the parent Plus loan online. I got instant notice my credit was approved and also an email and filled out my promissory note… Holy cow this is real now! D is going to college!

@TaylorsmomWI I am glad that that worry is over for you. I went through the exact same thing last year and remember the relief when the immediate approval came. As a matter of fact, your story and mine are so similar it’s eerie. You’re totally on point about non-MT parents not “getting it”. Because I’m an RN with a Masters degree in Nursing Education, everyone (including my ex-h who has never contributed a dime to their education) thinks my two artistic children should have gone my way. It doesn’t work that way. They would have been miserable. The rewards will come in seeing them succeed in a field they love. My older son is getting ready to graduate with a BFA in Film/Television Editing next month, and through working hard at an internship at a major studio here in LA he has started working already. My youngest son-the performer- still has three years to go, but I consider the experience and training he is getting every bit as important as any of the education I received through the years.

@1027fam just PM’d you! :slight_smile:

Can someone point me in the direction of the thread that lists names of CC’ers who are good contacts for the various schools? Looking for someone who can answer some NYU Tisch questions.

@WTXMom It’s the MT school forums thread … I don’t know how to put a link in here. I wish the moderator would pin that link to the top of the board and maybe change the name to make it a bit clearer.

There are several of us and that thread will tell you what you need to know.

halflokum’s D is graduating this month so she will have a good overview of the most recent four years.

@WTXMom - my D is a sophomore at Tisch, though she is Adler, not NSB. Happy to answer any questions

Thanks y’all.

does anyone know who usually makes the Facebook things with the incoming class and their headshots?

Students in the class normally make those themselves

@musicalkid98, I answered you on the Ithaca Forum where you also posted this question. And congrats on choosing Ithaca!

I ended up deciding on OCU!!! Even though BFA Acting is not what I initially planned, there are so many opportunities there for me to continue my training and I am so excited!

Congrats @Abbaroo98 ! You will love the BFA Acting program and OCU! Our D is a junior MT but has lots of BFA Acting friends. It’s a wonderful program and its grads are having lots of success on stage and screen, including musicals. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about OCU and I’ll do my best to answer!

After all of your wonderful help, I cannot thank you guys enough. I wanted to let you know that I decided to attend CMU this fall. It was my parents taking my laptop and committing at 11:50 pm while I proceeded to freak out about the decision haha.

I am tackling a minor in International Relations and Politics- starting with a online course this summer, to give me that psychological back-up stability ;).

Anyway!! Thank you for your wonderful help, I really appreciate everyone who has given me such great advice. Best of luck to you all!!!

Fantastic, best of luck to you, @complacent!
