@complacent LOL what a funny story!!
CONGRATS!!
@complacent - You are going to rock it, and I know we all look forward to following your many upcoming successes!!
Officially finished VP juries and didn’t die :x
Just saw a photo of next year’s incoming MT class at CCM. 5 girls, 15 boys. As if odds are not tough enough already …
I saw that and was going to make the same observation! Wow!
Yikes, that’s nuts!
Did they have that much of a boy deficit??
Penn states incoming class has 3 girls!!! More were made offers but they only have 3!!!
Are there any schools that take more girls than boys? Or that have a policy to take equal of both? This is not good news
Maybe there was a sudden and unpredictable increase in the yield from boy offers this year!
Where did you see the CCM picture @vvnstar ??
I saw that same picture on Facebook, did a double take. Most programs that don’t swear to an equal proportion tend to lean towards more boys, but I’ve never seen a 5:15 ratio.
The reason behind this is because more theatre roles are men so less women are needed in any given company. Sort of a sad fact but it’s because since all writers/composers pre 1970s were all men and it was rare to see a strong female lead in any play, musical, or movie.
Same thing happens with minorities, especially Asians and Hispanics, fortunately more companies are not white washing their lead characters. I saw a regional production of Carousel and the man playing Billy was African american and that was refreshing.
The facebook pictures I’ve seen that the various 2020 MT kids put together were the following mix of girls/boys:
FSU 5/5
Syracuse 17/7
Penn 4/8
Texas State 8/6
Elon 12/7
CCM 5/15
There was a U Mich picture on May 1st, but it seems to have been deleted.
Remember those pictures are the final class, not the number of acceptances. Some schools try to get an equal number of boys & girls while others just take the most talented/best fit. I’m sure some of that difference is the result of who accepted their offers. My S is going to FSU and I know the number of acceptances (offers) were not exactly the same for girls & boys but the actual class worked out that way once acceptances (commitments) came in from the kids.
Penn state has 4 girls…CCM has 15 boys and 5 girls. Considering the odds are stacked against girls to begin with – if the offers were that disproportionate – really lowered chances for girls.
@theatremom10 - we have a friend in that class and he posted the class picture on his Facebook page.
Michigan is 9 girls and 12 boys, based on the picture I saw a couple of days ago.
Maybe this means CCM will be better odds for girls next year
I think there are lots of schools that take more boys. Isn’t the adage that 75% of roles in shows are male?
TCU MT class of 2020 is 6 girls and 5 boys
BW generally takes roughly an even number of boys and girls. My S class had 1 more boy than girl. Not sure about 2020 since they had an accepted boy drop to go elsewhere.
I doubt that CCM meant to take three times as many boys. They probably just had an unusual number of boys accept or girls decline.
