Class of 2020 (sharing, venting, etc)

Has anyone heard anything at all from BoCo, Webster, Wisconsin SP, or Miami? I feel fortunate that my daughter has some great schools to choose from, but knowing the complete picture would be helpful for sure.

@SingerDancerMom Someone posted on another thread and in the kids’ Troupe facebook group that BoCo’s admission committee is meeting tomorrow (3/22) and that decisions will be sent out after that.

thank you @MTMom98

BOCO is always one of the last ones

Miami I have heard mail, portal but no one knows. Webster supposedly mailed decisions Friday - snail mail ugh.

Still waiting on Stevens Point as well- haven’t heard a peep.

Last year Miami updated portal first and the next day sent an email. S portal updated on 3/12 and got an email on 3/13. Some schools seem a little later in notifying this year.

@soozievt Yes, there are talented people in all programs. Here’s what she now knows. She came, she watched, she heard. D knows she didn’t compete for the most prestigious of schools. She’s not blind. She’s NOT embarrassed that there are more talented people than she. And there are more talented/polished people at many other schools as well.

Luckily, show business is not filled with only the most astonishing people. There are talented people who are a rung or two lower on the talent meter than the “greats”. I suppose she wants a happy place for herself among them.
We’ll see. That would be nice. She’ll need to ramp up her game, though.

This is not about assessing who gets into what schools and what that means for their worth. I’m just saying that not having incredible loads of talent or being the brightest star in the room is ok to me. She’s not that. There are people on CC who may be. We are just kind of ordinary in our family. I think this process was enlightening for her and valuable on many fronts. The actual school she’ll end up in is curiously making little difference to her at this point. That’s a funny thing after all this!

@sbc Those accepts were nice but in the end, financially untenable. It’s ok. She’ll deal.

@mtmcmt
Oh so sorry. I did not look carefully or pay attention to relative costs of schools just knew the names are all well thought of.Small comfort I know.

@sbc It’s ok. And for anybody on those waitlists, possible good news for you!

Hard work is a big factor in success, and something that I don’t think they can measure very well in a three-minute audition.

Talent is one ingredient- but it is NOT the only (or IMHO the most important) ingredient to success. I have seen massively talented people wash out. I have seen people who never had success in HS (as defined by having leads etc) end up with steady professional work

Where is everyone waiting on? We are: Coastal, Webster, Miami, NYU (4/1) Boco (after 3/22) Western Michigan

Waiting on Montclair and Emory & Henry, still have auditions at Fairleigh Dickinson and Rowan.

@mtmamma2020 just Manhattan School of Music which I read was 3/26 or “by 4/1”.

We’re waiting for Webster, Montclair, and University of Arizona. It seems to me that these (relatively) late notifications really put these schools at a disadvantage. At this point we’ve already got several acceptances, picked out our favorite among them, planned campus visits, talked with current students and faculty. If one of these three schools does give us an acceptance at this point we’d have to seriously consider if we want to bother with them.

@Tahuna we have two in common. I did hear Arizona made phone offers and mailed the rest on Friday, but who knows. Webster I also heard mailed results Friday although I know 1 girl who was given offers by phone following an interview.

Western Michigan had their final campus auditions last Friday. I was told that notifications should be within the next two weeks.

Waiting on Webster and CMU here. And already planning overnights at Point Park and Marymount.
