Senior courses: Full-Year College Biology, Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, US History (College), International Relations, Political Ideologies, and other Elective courses.
EC: Chemistry research/lab development along with being a TA for chem courses. I’ve also been a college tutor and volunteer at a local hospital. Additionally, did some speech and debate at the collegiate level which I plan to continue at Stanford. NHS, Orchestra, and Youth Ministry/Church Lector.
Other- Valedictorian at my school which is the 2nd largest in Oregon (grad class is about 550). I take classes at a community college and I took a full year of general chemistry sophomore year and did organic chemistry junior year. My Common App essay I think was very strong and was even highlighted in my acceptance letter from Stanford. Also, I got two recommendation letters from professors, one with a Ph.D from Duke and another with a Ph.D from Cornell.
One reason why I think I might have been waitlisted at Harvard is because I brought up being accepted to Stanford at the end of my interview and how that was one of my top choices. As for Washington and Lee, I would likely attribute it to choosing not to do some of the optional supplements and interview offer. However, I am extremely excited to be going to Stanford next year! Congrats to everyone for their acceptances!! I wish everyone luck as they go on to their colleges and also for those prospective students who are getting ready to start filling out their applications.
Make your essays personal and have them stand out. Choose extracurriculars that you can shine in and truly enjoy. Grades are very important, and test scores are to a large degree, but don’t be the student that takes the SAT/ACT 10 times.
