@mtmajorpls yes! My D LOVED Lara too! :x
And crepes?! Yum!!! We like that they have a professional theatre on campus. The kids can get their equity card there, right? That seems like a great bonus!
@LAM2017 Not exactly sure how it works, but yes the St. Louis rep. is right on campus! they said the rep
company has some shows that will have open auditions for Webster students, and others that will not. I would assume that working with them would count towards equity card!
Congratulations to all the people who are hearing back about acceptances! That’s amazing!!!
I’m currently on edge, waiting for Belmont decisions… the website and the faculty have said that “decisions will be made March 1st”… not sure if that means they’ll be calling tomorrow, or emailing, or even mailing letters that won’t make it to houses for a few days!!! The waiting is intense!
Same, @jessieburnett!
@jessieburnett and @owensfolks post something as soon as you hear. We are right there with you! No idea how they notify but would love to!
Another day with no mail. I breathe a sigh of relief each time-but D has TEN schols to hear from, so we know it’s coming!
My daughter just got in to the MT program today and she heard via the portal…Still hope!!
@evcvmom Congrats! Where was she accepted?
@Mardeen - My D is a senior at Wright State - they are on Spring Break this week (sorry!). She said they said they would send snail mail “next week” - hoping for all of you waiting that it will be Monday! I posted this on the Wright State page too. If anyone has any WSU specific questions, feel free to post there - several of us check it.
@MTmom2017 Thank you so much for the info. As you know, the wait is agonizing! @-)
@japbmom I agree that U of AZ might be looking for out of state kids – I think colleges like to say “We have students from over 30 states.” or that kind of thing. I’m not sure what prestige that gives them, but I hear that sort of thing at every college admissions presentation.
The main thing is that your D found a program that fits her and that she’s happy there. :-bd
so can anyone comment on the dilemma of the waitlist? we’re pretty clueless about the waitlist scenario… which we now have .
Do most schools just wait till may 1 to make offers from it? I’m also wondering if there is any average size list they maintain, like numbers wise? I seem to remember BW saying they usually only put 12-15 on the waitlist…maybe it was less 10-12? I’ve forgotten.
Anyway just wanting to hear anyone’s experiences or thoughts on waitlists.
@theaterwork that was discussed yesterday post #2015
Here’s a waitlist thread from last spring: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/1872779-waitlist-advice-p1.html
@theaterwork - My d ended up on three waitlists for schools that she was very interested in (Wright State, Viterbo, and Western Michigan), plus one additional waitlist (Baylor). She had several acceptances beginning in November, but any of top three waitlist programs would have trumped the ones that she had in hand. She did get accepted to the BFA program at Baylor in February, but it wasn’t one of her top picks (we thought at the time that she was only accepted to the BA program at Baylor, but it later turned out to be their BFA program - had they been clear about their offer, she probably would have taken it).
Soooo, she sent emails to each wailist program around March 1 saying that she would immediately accept an offer from them and we waited. And waited. As April 1 came and went, and a couple of her admits made some really good offers trying to get her to accept, I made her set a deadline of April 15 to commit to a program and get some degree of closure. I was genuinely feeling angst for a couple of her admission counselors and MT program heads as they called, texted, and emailed about every 3 days asking if she was going to accept their offer. As it was, she missed “Accepted Students Day” at a couple of the schools, I was getting worried about getting a housing deposit in, and I could feel the airfare for attending regular orientation in early June climbing by the day. As I recall, Western Michigan called her around around April 5 saying that she was at the top of the waitlist and an offer was probably forthcoming shortly (but my memory is pretty fuzzy due to PTSD).
I could see that the carrot of the three waitlist programs was greatly diminishing her view of the acceptances that she had in hand, and I’ll be honest, that was pretty depressing.
Finally, as both of us were about to tear our hair out, Western Michigan, which was her favorite audition, called her on April 14 with an acceptance. Ta-dah! My blood pressure dropped about 50 points after that, although the hair that I lost will never grow back.
There is so much movement from waitlists it is crazy! And the lists do move – they really do in April especially. The big thing to remember is if your d/s has multiple offers, please, once their decision is made have them write all other schools and decline offers – that is how those spots open up.
Ok so this is probably very unusual but this is my journey so far. A little background. I only had three more classes to take my senior year to graduate so with the blessing of my principal and teachers to be absent over 20 days they have been very understanding and supportive. Last summer I worked two jobs all summer to save up to go to Chicago Unifieds and also a trip to NY Unifieds plus some other schools on the way up and back from Chicago and NYC on the bus staying with relatives and friends along the way.
The positives are I am in the finals for Julliard. It’s a dream of mine and I’m sure many others but I still feel it’s a long shot. I picked out 11 schools in total and felt I am more than qualified to compete for acceptance into either their BFA or BA programs. I had to leave off about five schools that I could be happy at because they offer little financial aid or loan packages based on my research and info I gathered from friends. I got into two schools. Don’t really want to name them and hope I really don’t have to go there as they are just safety schools. One school I auditioned for Syracuse I doubt I would go to if accepted because of the feel of the audition and subsequently more I found out about the program since I applied in the fall. Quite frankly the two schools I have been accepted at don’t even compare with the schools I would have been OK with going to but were denied or wait listed. The schools I all either got denied or wait listed from were CCM, Ithaca, Suny Purchase of NY, Penn State and Elon. I in fact know some other kids who are incredible talents and got wait listed while lesser talents got admitted to these schools. Is this common practice or a new way schools not in the top three go about assembling classes? In everyone of those auditions I got looks like what are you doing here, was asked where else have I auditioned for and been accepted and also another question asked of me, why their school. I tried to be genuine but I left feeling that they didn’t believe me when I told them I saw myself as a good fit with their driven and talented students. One judge while rubbing his cheek said out loud. I see you more at Michigan or Carnegie Mellon. That one made me really mad. I probably should have said something but was too shocked to say anything and went numb before stumbling out of the room.
Now I am left with either drawing the lucky straw and getting into Julliard, Carnegie or Michigan OR being forced to attend a school I really have no interest in attending. The last possibility is working for a year while performing professionally and re applying next year. I know this is rare but I’m hoping there are some other students like myself who are stuck in this predicament but too stunned by results so far to speak up? I would love to hear your story if you got stung by the same predicament? You might just be too good for those schools just under the top three and are hopping for a miracle sometime in mid or late March?
Thanks, everyone for the info about Wait Lists. Reading last year’s thread was really helpful too. Not looking forward to this scenario, but at least we did all on-campus auditions so my D knows what each school is like. Of course, that also meant she had a chance to fall in love with a couple programs & campuses that had just been names on a list before. :-S
@Slow Ride my only advice is that you must see the process to the end, because you aren’t in a predicament just yet: You may get into one of the programs you’re waiting on-or all three! There’s just no way to predict, and no sense in stressing over alternatives until you have the total picture. Good luck!
@slowride, you can always take a gap year and try again next year if you’re not happy with your choices. Congratulations on the Julliard Finals. It sounds like you have real talent.
