YAY, Congrats @sopranomtmom!!!
@daughtersdreams I just wanted to chime in after reading your review on Montclair - my D auditioned at NYC Unifieds and found them to be exactly as you described and unlike any other school audition experience. They were not at all friendly. Very disappointing to my D. My oldest D went there in the theatre program and we thought it would be a good fit for my MT girl but no way…and BTW she did not get in anyway and we are ok with that.
That is WONDERFUL!!! Congrats!!!
congratulations @sopranomtmom !!!
@theaterwork Wow it sounds like your experience was the complete opposite of my D’s. Good for you! We know someone in West Side Story…I’m sure it will be a great show!
Congratulations @sopranomtmom!!!
@LAM2017 LOVED it! Great scenic campus, and only 15 minutes from St. Louis. Saw their current play and was super impressed, amazing theatre venues as well, and of course loved Lara!
Also, as part of their meal plan, they have a booth that specializes in crepes of all varieties, if that interests you
@LAM2017 @KPike320
Webster was literally the last notification we got last year, even after CMU.
Congrats @sopranomtmom that is awesome! Congrats to you d.
Yum!!
@mtmajorpls which school has crepes? Thanks!
@Mel2421 Webster!
@daughtersdreams Marymount will send VIA mail (in our experience) a small legal envelope stamped “theater dept” in red. This was a rejection. I hope the acceptances come in a more cheery fashion. My D was accepted to MMC academically back in October with quite a large scholarship. We did on campus audition that she thought went really well.
Ok Thanks! My d didn’t audition there.
My D’s acceptance from Marymount last year came in the same small envelope stamped “theater dept.”
Congrats @sopranomtmom this is wonderful news!
@missnypizza we haven’t been to Montclair yet so I’m thinking you tagged the wrong person?
Montclair is nice. The town is wonderful with lots of good restaurants.
@daughtersdreams : That’s a great acceptance rate @japbmom ! Glad your D is happy and thriving in her program. Wondering how you handled the mid-May acceptance off a waitlist? By then, I guess she had already committed to another school. So how would someone be able to make a change at that point?
The mid-May offer came from University of Arizona - which is in our home state and would have been our most economical option. She went to the Unifieds in Los Angeles and auditioned for them there as the on campus dates conflicted with other things. They had sent Assoc Profs there - and when she was done her audition, they all but said “you are in” to her … we really felt she had that one in the bag. Then she gets a letter in March to say she was on the waitlist. She called and they said she was at the top. Sorry to say - as her Mom - I was a little annoyed. I felt that they were probably first trying to get out of state students in those spots and were passing over the in-state students (several of her other friends were also wait-listed - all very talented). U of A is not a top program … although they are a good one. She accepted at another University - a better program - and then mid-May she got a telephone call to let her know there was a spot at U of A. She told them she was already committed to another school. We found out in June the school was calling around looking to fill their spots … one of her friends got in in June. They ended up with less students than they said they would take … so their system backfired. I think these programs that are not at the top should be accepting more students and anticipating that they will lose some to better schools. The waitlist left a bad taste in my mouth - mostly because it was our home state and she would have already had free tuition had she decided to go there. I know there are good things going on at the school - I think the Dept Head came from U of Michigan and he teaches in the summer program there. I suppose if she really wanted to go there - we would have called the school she committed to and explained the tuition situation. I don’t think they would have held it against us at that point.
