Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

Yes @KaMaMom !
I have found that you have in your mind what a certain school will be like and maybe have it on a pedestal and then wham you visit or from the audition you’re like " um , no" . Than we all have hopes of our kid getting THE acceptance email from THE school that’s got the right name and for some of these kids that email is not coming and that’s ok. Because there is a school that is right for them regardless and they will most likely end up very happy at said school. We must keep repeating we don’t know why our kid wasn’t accepted at X school . We will never know. So may as well separate yourself from it. Easier said then done but our kids need us to do this.

I promised when we started this that I wouldn’t get “caught up” in the MT prestige thing & im not doing too bad so far, but I gotta say it’s a thin line to walk . We didn’t have a lot of top tier schools on our list, just a few & we are also trying so hard to keep my D out of debt. I know if she takes on the least debt she’ll be better off to audition after graduation because she won’t be pressured to make a loan payment.
I will say we have met SO many great people at auditions and since this all started and I love that. Plus all the beyond helpful people on CC. Like
crazy helpful. Now that’s not to say we have not met some crazy stage moms lol! But those are not the majority. Just a few outliers!

The only thing i have not liked is all the focus on auditions taking away from senior year. I have constantly felt as if we are wishing away this time and I hate that.
I also wish the schools would start auditioning earlier in the school year. At least in October which we had only one school that offered that. I feel like if they started just a little earlier we wouldn’t have this mad rush in April to tie things up.

Hello all!

So this has been one hell of a week, as I totally expected to have a firm decision, even if that was a rejection, from two schools, and so far, I got nothing. In the anxiety of overthinking those auditions, I realized this Friday was the first Friday in March. Does anyone happen to know if this is when syracuse’s infamous decision waves will begin? They are one of my top schools, and I totally thought decisions would start next week but I’m not sure.

@theaterwork I agree. The process is way too long!

Would not be surprised if wave one were tomorrow. It happens very late in the afternoon, between 4:30 and 5.

So I just read on the Florida State thread that all offers are out, via phone call, for BFA MT and Acting. No call for us but congrats to whoever made it through!

@Monkeiiboy, I thought they said April 1 at the info meeting… :-S

@KPike320 I agree it was traumatic at times, but my trauma is tempered by my child’s extreme happiness. After you are done, you want to be able to give back in the way many people here gave to you. Fortunately, over the last few years, summer stock has been talked about more and more. I have a freshman who was auditioning for summer stock this year, so once again, I wanted the opinions and advice here. I also want to know where everyone lands, how they like their program, if their summer stock is close enough for me to go see the show. A few parents have even stuck around long enough to share the story of their recent graduates, which I find extremely interesting to hear.

I’m not a spokesperson for why people stick around, but I’m willing to bet many are similar to what I said. Ultimately, you get sucked into the stories of strangers and you really root for them. You want to see their kids succeed. Past freshman year, I’m not sure how long I will stay around, but I suspect as long as I can provide relevant and useful information, I will continue to pay it forward.

@KPike320 Someone just said on here that the audition season is like childbirth - while you’re in it, you think you’ll never do it again. But afterwards? Sure!! And I can tell you that’s 100% true for me - the audition season holds some of my favorite memories with my MT girl! Lots of weekend trips together - I miss her singing in the car!

Actually, it’s quite appropriate that I talk about that now … we kind of get to relive that next week when she’s home on break. She has two summer stock auditions that will both be 1-3 hour drives away … I CAN’T WAIT!!

Along with everyone here, I’m in anxiety mode – feeling the adrenaline rush each time the phone rings and on constant watch for the mailman!

But I can’t help thinking of all those theater department faculty and what a huge and stressful job they have in front of them. Can you imagine sorting through all the talented applicants, trying to rate each one and being shouldered with making decisions that will have potentially, life-changing impact on each of these students? I wouldn’t want their jobs for the world!

If I thought it wouldn’t be viewed as bribery, I’d send them all care packages of home-made cookies. In lieu of that, I say a prayer for them every day. O:-)

@nodaybut2daymom I called FSU this morning. Now I see what she meant…she said the letters were in the mail. I asked if there would be phone calls and she repeated…it’s in the mail. So that means it’s a no if we haven’t received a call yet. Just goes to show you you can’t read into anything that’s said in the room. The auditor told my D “I really hope to see you again”…oh well! Florida probably would have been a tough sell to her anyway.

Did anyone get an email from BoCo today?

@mtdancer5678 - D received an email about a week after her audition thanking her and hoping that she enjoyed the audition process and asking if she had any additional question. The email said notifications go out in the Spring - but no specific date.

Someone heard a yes from Wright State today.

BoCo is usually one of the later ones, last week of March, I think.

We are delayed at the airport… D just checked Rider portal and it said… not admitted due to audition. Guessing that’s our first no? And any Ithaca waitlists or acceptances out there yet? Finally @DrowsyChaperone how were notified by Wright State (and congrats!!).

I hope it is OK if I share this here since this is the forum in which I have primarily been participating since day one as D originally wanted only MT. However, her focus has expanded in the past few years so through this audition process she has been auditioning for both MT and Acting and in the past few days has had some amazing Acting acceptances - BFA Acting at UArts and BFA Acting at Wright State University. She is really going to have some hard choices to make - but what a blessing to be able to say that.

Congratulations @sopranomtmom!

@AL S0830 she just received an email. And no news yet from Ithaca or Syracuse. I head Syr is waiting until April 1st so they can review financial need too.

@sopranomtmom Congratulations on both acceptances! My D is doing the same – trying for both programs at a few schools.

Congrats @sopranomtmom ! How did Wright state notify you?
