Hang in there everyone!! I remember on March 10 last year five decisions came in for my D. I think we went from 2 decisions to only 2 unknowns in one day! A mixed bag of yes, no and waitlist. I’ve checked in often hoping to pay it forward this year, but so many of the details are now a blur to me! I think someone else mentioned…it’s like having a child…and someone presses the erase button (thankfully). Kudos to the regulars providing great advice and insight again this year, and BAL class of 2021!!! Almost there…I feel your pain and remain excited for your future!
@kaf011 When did your D hear from FSU and how was she notified?
Moved
Well, my D’s non audition safety had a scholarship audition…so she went…liked the school and Friday she opened a letter letting her know she had been awarded the scholarship, $4,000 yearly for 4 years. We were shocked, we thought it was a $500 departmental scholarship. So that was a good ending to a week that was kicked off by a “redirect” from her favorite school. Oh the Rollercoaster continues…
Anyone know when DePaul notifications start coming out? And if they do it by letter or email?
@brightstaral what school is that?
@Stevo99 we went in Jan for BFA acting auditions on campus and they said if you didn’t get a callback that day your journey has ended. Haven’t officially got a letter, but same for Pace and DePaul
@kaf011 it’s interesting that FSU didn’t do callbacks at NY Unifieds.
2 years ago, DePaul sent snail mail mid March.
@sabersunshine Not all schools redirect…my D was rejected by 2 schools and redirected by another.
Following so many of the journeys on CC MT and Theatre threads and just want to say that I am hoping and praying for all of these students to find the perfect place to land in the Fall! Just as test scores don’t always determine the best students, I am positive that a 10-30 minute audition (after all who doesn’t have a bad day now and then) doesn’t always determine who belongs where. (not to say that it is wrong all the time) Some of these young adults take everything in stride and some will beat themselves up for months to come, but we should be so proud of the stamina and resilience they show for persevering and trying to follow their passion. I, for one, love the person my Daughter has become and a lot of that is due to the performing arts-she is a team player, an articulate young lady who can carry on a conversation with anyone, a caring person who will help out wherever she is needed, and a leader when she is called to be. We didn’t apply to all the big schools, and she will probably end up attending a small private university for MT. Was it her first choice? No, but she will thrive there because she will be doing what she loves. So hug your kid and tell them that all of us parents out there are rooting for their success, no matter where they end up!
7 more days till Baldwin Wallace notifies. It’s nice to have a hard date from SOMEPLACE!
My D got a big envelope in the mail this week from a university. I laughed at our reactions when we realized it was “just” academic acceptance and not artistic admission. I remember getting the big envelope when I applied for college (way back when) - it was a party in my house that night! Oh, how things have changed.
@CMB625 Beautifully said! I was saying as much to my husband last night at dinner as he continues to try to understand this process. This week has been so bipolar - one amazing acceptance to an MT program she loves, an equally amazing redirect to a BFA Acting program at a school at the top of her list and a hard no from a school she really, really thought might be the one. So we go from tears of happiness to tears of sadness in 0-60. But I can say without a doubt that this experience has made my D an even more mature and poised young woman than she already was when we began this journey. She has also tended to get hung up on the idea of the “big” schools but I remind her that ultimately it is about the training and how she embraces it and grows from it into the artist she wants to be. So as she heads into her last audition this weekend and she continues to wait on the schools she has yet to hear from, I know that she will ultimately end up where she is meant to be. And that alone gives me some measure of peace in this crazy, sometimes wonderful and sometimes horrible process!
@sopranomtmom at least you are getting responses! D got rejected from Rider redirected to Arts Admin the week after her audition - glad we got that out of the way early, but now we wait for the rest to roll in. We do try to keep things upbeat and joke that all rejections will roll in on the same day. I am amazed that my kid has navigated this audition process with a very positive, upbeat attitude. She is glad the auditions are over, but she had fun and met some really nice kids along the way. The rejections, which we know will come, will be difficult, but hopefully she will get into the one program she really wants!
Ugh @freddieggirl I’m so terrified for BW. I have a countdown on my computer. its a top choice.
Also knowing that we’re at the point where a majority of the schools are releasing in about a week to a week and a half is absolutely nerve wracking to me. Like I’ll probably have decisions from 2/3 of my schools all within a week and a half. When did that happen and who allowed it??? Came up too quickly.
@sopranomtmom , it certainly is a roller coaster ride! Congrats to your D on her successes thus far! And I just keep trying to remember that we are all in this together. BAL this weekend! And @Mardeen , I know what exactly what you mean, my D got an Honors College acceptance (which her Dad and I were very excited about), but without the MT acceptance it just didn’t mean much to her, haha.
Just a quick note for anyone who is struggling with acceptances/rejections right now …
My D had a very rough audition season - beginning with breaking her foot during the dance audition at Millikin. (I am not joking - search my past posts … it was nuts!)
She’s a sophomore at a MT BFA school that she didn’t even audition at til mid March of 2015. (I just checked some old emails - she got confirmation of passing that school’s prescreen on March 11, 2015.)
I remember this time of year being CRAZY … we were waiting for word on most of the schools and I was desperately throwing new auditions on the calendar because I totally misjudged how tough this process really can be.
There are LOTS of stories here about kids who ended up at their perfect program in the end - but that program wasn’t at all like they imagined it would be when the audition season started. And some stories about how dreams do come true.
I wish I could find the link (maybe the infamous @EmsDad can!) about someone who was waitlisted at their dream school and a spot never opened. They made peace with their 2nd choice and went about their life - and got to packing for their first year at college. And then they got a phone call - the day before they were to move into their new school. A spot had opened up at that waitlisted school - and they took it and changed plans at the very last second.
So … two things things to take away … 1., your kids will thrive wherever they are planted and 2., don’t ever give up on your dreams.
@KaMaMom beautiful !!! Thank you for that! I don’t know how some of you have done this over and over again for multiple children. I also don’t know (although I’m grateful) how those of you that are already PASSED this stage are still lingering on these boards! I imagine when this is done, I don’t want to talk about this ANYMORE! Again, I’m so grateful for y’all’s input though! Thank you
