Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

So my D is about to get on the plane and I decided to check the CalArts portal again even though they didn’t send us an email yet…AND HER DECISION WAS POSTED…SHE WAS ACCEPTED TO CALARTS…BFA Acting!

CONGRATS!

@marg928 Congrats to your D about CalArts! And BAL at Guthrie!!

@LBSMOM @KaMaMom maybe the voice director for her PA school, she is a super lovely person but also the musical is next week and she is a bit on the unreliable side - as in, D also asked her for a college rec letter in the fall and she never came through despite being a vocal supporter of D’s, and saying she would do it. So those are the options she needs to weigh. Hearing everyone’s opinions has been helpful and I think I will encourage D to try the lovable-yet-flaky voice director again first before the choir teacher  Sorry to sound a mean girl on this message board - this process has eroded my filter to be rather threadbare.

Hearing that Wagner calls went out, my D didn’t receive one. Liked the school & the audition. This is sad. I know we’ll get through but not enjoying this part of the journey. Congrats to the fortunate that got their YES!

Hang in there @MTMHopeful !!

Congrats @marg928 !!

I have seen so many Temple acceptances/waitlisted. Is anyone else still waiting to hear? We haven’t heard anything from them.

@MTMHopeful I wouldn’t give up on Wagner yet. Sometimes calls may go out to kids they really want and/or want to impress with their personal touch - i.e., boys for Wagner. I don’t have any inside knowledge of Wagner, but that seems to be the case for one than one school.

@LAM2017 My D doesn’t even audition for Temple until tomorrow. Glad for those already accepted! Hoping to follow in your footsteps! :x

@daughtersdreams BAL! That makes me feel a little better. But it does seem like there are quite a few acceptances already out there!

My D got a call late last night yes from Wagner I am sure they are still making calls

@marg928 A CalArts Yes is WONDERFUL News!! What a way to start her trip! <:-P

congratulations @lincoln56! It’s nice to have good news for the weekend!

On the topic of “Award Letters” - I got a financial award letter from a college with a huge amount listed. Then I see that over half of the 'award" is LOANS. Ugh! Since when is an “award” something you have to pay back – with interest?!

I think Wagner has about 60 calls to make. Hopefully they are still calling.

@Mel2421 gosh I hope you are right! Wagner is the top of my D’s list - she felt it was one of her best auditions. Praying they are still working through the list and that my D gets a call!

@LAM2017 We are waiting on Temple as well. Where did you see acceptances/wait?

@KaMaMom

@CentralOHmomof4 … my Ds choir director was a horrible person as well - she got so fed up with her that senior year, D walked right out of class and straight to the office to withdraw permanently. (And she was a 4 year choir member.) I feel for your kid!!

My son is the lead in the Musical which ends in two weeks. He wants to play baseball after the show is over
Tryouts for baseball are Mon and Tues and they wont let him leave practice to walk over to the field for 30 minutes

The boy throws 85 mph! These drama teachers are myopic!

@MTMHopeful Umm…well I can positively tell you that not all boys got a call from Wagner…and for what it is worth, I would definitely not give up on Wagner either. I think that the few Wagner kids that got calls are the few that they really, really wanted to court. It is nice to be courted, but not necessary. And remember, at least Wagner kids will know by the end of next week. Most of our schools don’t notify until the bitter end. And @LAM2017 we got notice on the TU Portal site 1-2 weeks before we got the USPS letter so check early and often if you’re up for the aggravation. I keep reminding myself to be thankful that my S has two acceptances (along with the two rejections and one wait list so far) but knowing that doesn’t make the waiting for the schools he really wants to hear from any easier. And knowing that some of the schools he’s applied to have already started to accept, well that makes me think it is time to start being happy with what we’ve got. Having an acceptance takes a load off for sure, but we are still waiting for the 5 schools he really wants to hear from so every so often I just pause, and go AAAAGH!!! Realizing that some of those schools have already begun to build their MT class, and my S isn’t in it yet? Double AAAAAGHHH!!! I’m stuck between the feeling of resignation that those two schools he’s into might be the only two he ever hears from and the dread of knowing that a few of his top choices don’t notify until the very very end of March/beginning of April. This month is absolutely nerve wrecking (for the mom, if not the S, who apparently is letting me do all the worrying). And BTW, the lack of worrying on my S’s part may by yet another reason why it is really really good to have an MT boy and not an MT girl. It really helps hearing from all the other parents who are out there worrying, dreading, getting resigned to the school that has accepted our kid, and all the other online thought processes. I only wish that processing the worry online made the worry go away. Apparently it does not. Breathing and waiting are not my strong suits.
