Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

Hartt is in check your portals

@CTDramaMom yes that is exactly my point. These schools are putting together a company just like the real world. Caitlin Hopkins at Texas State flat out told us we are seeing 150 kids who are the best in the country but we can only take 14. She said they were all qualified to go there. She said it came down to what they needed this year and even said if they were ethnic they had a higher chance of getting in. In reality they can’t pick 7 blonde girls- they need diversity.
My son did get some yes, definitely some painful no’s and he’s on 3 WL. There could be a many number of reasons they did not fit with a particular school this year- it’s just the way it is. I am also confident he will be happy with the school he’s leaning to accept right now even if it wasn’t what he thought he originally wanted. Thank you for your words- I completely agree.

@MTAlabamaMom My D auditioned for Mo State on campus in February.

@milmom2 and @Ouiser I think @soozievt had some great advice. It is all so hard and we do want our children to do well. But because I know parent’s of juniors are lurking here I want to express my opinion that I really don’t think a coach gives one the inside advantage. I think it is so easy to get caught up in all of it and the expense escalates. Coaching can be great but try and target what you need. In our case we needed support with the acting. And it paid off. We felt her local teachers for voice and dance had trained her well enough (and they did.) (I have a hard time tooting her horn when I know lot’s of people are waiting for their 1 acceptance - also she is fairly private so I am respecting her wishes which I why I haven’t posted in acceptances yet). Try and determine what your child needs - if they are not the most outgoing then do coaching so you can use the mocks as valuable practice for auditions. That way your money and time and targeted. We used MTCA in a limited way and did not even list it on her resume (they told us it was our choice). Auditors never even asked about coaching and had no way of knowing so no advantage there - they were more interested in her AP Music theory and years spent playing piano and other things on her resume. Determine your child’s strengths and help find the support they need to make them the best candidate they can be - and then give it your best shot! BAL to every kid on here and to all their hardworking parents <3

@rpmjsmom - it was just an email asking whether the kids have already accepted another school early decision. Several of us got them–I think it was simply to take any kids off their list who have already made decisions so that they can make offers to other people.

We never got a portal for Hartt @lincoln56 - through Acceptd or a Hartt portal? Thank you!

@lincoln56 how do we check Hartt Portals. Don’t remember them giving us any info on that.

I was determined to stay off of CC today. D is narrowing her list of options down, and for the first time in this entire process, we aren’t seeing eye to eye. We are both sick of talking about it; agreed to disagree for now, and revisit in a few days when we have our heads on straight. I just logged in and saw 75 new posts on this one thread! Let’s ALL take a moment to celebrate the fact that WE are the parents who have told our kids “Yes you can, and I will support you.” We didn’t tell them we wouldn’t let them go to school for MT or acting; we didn’t tell them that would be a waste of time or money; we didn’t tell them they’d never get in. As slim as the odds are in this INSANE journey-let’s all take a moment to think about the kids that were told that…about the arts, athletics, humanities.
There is a real chance that my D is not gonna go to school for MT-but we never told her she couldn’t. That, IMHO, is the best aspect of this CC community of parents and (some) students: We’re the coolest

oops sorry Hartt sent a email I thought it was on the portal can’t keep it all straight phone calls -snail mail-email-portal-nothing etc…

Yes it is crazy with all the different methods used. Just to clarify @lincoln56 the email went out today (Saturday)?

@singoutlouise My child is private as well that is why I have been as vague as possible. I appreciate your thoughts and it supports my thinking that if we go for a round two, we will be looking into a coach, if not for any other reason, but the support of the acting portion. And please TOOT your child’s horn. My frustration with the system and the heartache of my child can in no way diminishes the happiness I feel for those on the other side. I just wish we were there with you. The funny thing is. I know my kid is going to be ok, because I am in awe of him everyday. He inspires me, and it’s not just me. I have seen him organize and motivate a group of teenagers to do some things that no one thought was possible. He is that kid. The one that is talented, but works hard everyday and gets everyone else around him to work equally as hard. He has worked professionally and has been successful. He doesn’t want fame. He wants to create. He wants to inspire and be inspired. He truly LOVES his craft. He hates the sale and although I wasn’t in the room for his auditions…well I think we might need to work on that aspect.

My D is very similar, @Ouiser.

@owensfolks Maybe we need to get them together.

@Ouiser I encourage you to wait and see how everything plays out. No coach here. We had planned to gap if things didn’t work out

@Ouiser, I am sorry to hear that your S is experiencing heartache. When we started this process last summer, we tried to keep our list small and safe because of financial reasons…but also, because our S didn’t want what he termed the ‘inauthentic process’ of auditioning…Such a wonderful boon that his very first audition was with a director who ‘saw’ his essence as a person and performer (we were allowed to sit in, since it was a 1:1 taped) Other schools came off the audition list once the December acceptance came through! ( AMDA STILL calls our home and emails…even after speaking directly to our S about his plans…wonder what that’s about?) Our talented S is humble and gracious and truly works well as part of an ensemble. After the spring HS play, one of his peers asked who would give the pep talks to the cast and crew in the fall, now that he is graduating. Our S refers to himself as an artist…he does it all, really- your description of your S sounds so familiar…And I hope that he has joy soon! I log in to CC almost daily to read about other proud parents and aspiring performers and their journeys… My husband wonders at me sometimes…I don’t know any of you or your talented children personally, but I feel I do, in spirit. Anyways, keep posting!

@lincoln56 So Hartt acceptances came via email today?? Is that correct? I just want to put the last few to rest…

Yes Hartt came today via e-mail sorry for the confusion everyone hugs and kisses!!!

@momof3nerdz Imight have to get the name of that school from you for next year. Sounds like the perfect place.

My daughter got a Hartt acceptance email today too but Hartt has been rolling so they’ve been coming all along and they might still be coming till April 1st. This isn’t necessarily the end of them.

Thanks @Spike27 & @lincoln56. I thought I could be done (almost) with the waiting. I guess we can wait a little longer :-< At this point I’m just looking for a little “closure”.
