Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

Whew, @MomofMTBoy. #:-S This is like watching your favorite characters on Survivor. Forget positive vibes. I am just flat out praying for all of y’all.

yeah gotta love those letters rolling in this week … " we would love you to come here to enroll in accounting "

Um no

It is not at all unusual for the class size to decrease after freshman year. My D’s school offers some really cool majors that kids may not have known about before getting there. They lose a group to MBET (music business engineering and technology) every year. They also have playwriting, directing, etc. Many kids just find more interest in those areas and switch majors. There are also kids who had no idea that MT requires at least 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday (unlike traditional majors that can take Friday off) long research papers, rehearsal time, etc. It is not for everyone. There are also families that figured out how to pay for the first year but find it hard to come up with the $ for the rest. Two kids also left this year for national tours. Everyone’s journey is different. Who knows how your kids will end up?

@LBSMOM: My daughter left her program for one reason only: She got an acceptance into her “dream” school, but was redirected to an Acting BFA. D actually turned down other BFA MT offers just to go to that school, but was not happy without the rest of the MT elements. Lesson learned.

I’m so ready for this to be over…on the bright side, I wonder how many calories I’ve burned by running to the phone every time it makes a noise, or by sprinting to the mailbox 10+ times a day?

@evitasmom Right! Totally ran home in the middle of the day I think I’ve lost my mind! @-)

@ouiser Welcome to the club of lost minds. :stuck_out_tongue:

No mail today! Come on now, its March 20th!!!

Got the official Pace acceptance letter today and a nice little scholarship from Point Park…no new news though.

woooooooooohoooooooooo congrats @marg928

Congrats @marg928 !! Do you think pace is finished with acceptances now?

Congrats @marg928!!!

@marg928 Did you already get a phone call from Pace?

Pace is killing us with the “skinny letter” flood! Another “welcome to Pace, really hope you’ll attend” letter today. So frustrating! I really wish they’d filter out the kids awaiting audition results - save themselves money and save us a bit of our sanity! Ok…rant over…
BTW, that letter was postmarked Friday, 3/17. So anything mailed earlier last week should have arrived by now. Guess that means they are still working on getting all the letters out.

I believe @marg928 heard originally from Pace on 3/10. Correct @marg928? And Pace is SO BAD with the mail. Even AFTER we told them D wouldn’t be attending they continued to send us mail. And the constant phone calls were a little overkill…

@marg928 We got the Point Park letter today also, with a nice little artistic award and a little academic award – with the emphasis on LITTLE. D is feeling disheartened – even though MT was her first choice, she was seriously considering accepting the PPU BFA Acting offer because she LOVED that school. (Me too.) :frowning:

@daughtersdreams yes my D got the call for FTVC on 3/10. Did you visit PPU this weekend?

I would like to reiterate what @japbmom said regarding audition coaches…if you can afford it go for it. We did not have a coach but I spent hours upon hours researching schools, programs etc in my spare time as well as dear D’s and we missed loads and loads of schools. We applied to 18 which I thought was a ton, but she had a friend apply to 36! She somehow got really lucky and got into her #1 school but there for a while I was panicking with the “what ifs”. I plan on telling everyone from here on out who want to pursue BFA MT/Acing, spend the $ now if you can because it may very well cost you another year of do-overs. As far as those talking about a certain look, I definitely think that happens. If you do not have it, they are just not interested, whatever the look is they think they need in their program . At this point I think med-school or Ivy league schools would be easier to get into. If we would not have gone down this path I would have had no idea how maddening it could possibly be. For all of those waiting, many many many HUGS!

Ok D has a late audition at Montclair this weekend. I guess we’re still going. Lord knows I’ve blocked out the hotel bills at this point.
Opinions on whether it might be a lost cause auditioning this late. Read on another Montclair thread that if your kid was of a common type it was not good to audition at schools with rolling admissions for MT this late in the game as they’ve probably already made offers to too many . Especially if you’re not of a unique type etc which she is not .

Thoughts please as I’m officially worn out

@theaterwork- if I’ve learned anything over the past 6 months it’s that what people say should be -isn’t necessarily so. In other words, the schools we were told would love my D did not and schools that she had no expectations for sometimes did. If you think it’s a school that’s a good fit why live with the could’ve/would’ve/should’ve three weeks from now. I think throw caution to the wind and possibly end up with one of the “it was last school, last audition etc” happy endings.
