Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

This is COMPLETE hearsay (My D was hanging out with a HS friend who is a BWMT student over break, she told me about their conversation, but I didn’t hear it) but he said that BW is in a transition period with how they do auditions. IDK what that means, if it has to do with adding BFA acting, are they going back to prescreens, will they start doing unifieds… who knows. Maybe @artskids or @kategrizz might know more?

I don’t have anything to share regarding BW and auditions, but I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you and wish everyone the best as we embark on the peak of the audition season. My D is nervous. She didn’t do any early auditions because she is primarily a dancer and felt she needed the fall months to prepare her monologues and songs. But now it is clearly time. My family has a motto, a Robert Frost quote, that has helped us through all kinds of challenges: “The only way out is through!” I don’t post very often, but CC is a real life line to information, commiseration, and support. There is nothing like this particular MT application process, and as always, community matters immensely. Go MTers! You’ve got this.

My S is fairly clueless about the new BFA Acting program -). He has taken classes from a few of the professors and really enjoyed them but he’s been so busy with his own stuff this year, he has not been my reliable information source! I’ve been pushing him a little since the kids at his former PA HS are asking the same questions! @kategrizz has been doing the parent sessions for MTs - she may have better scoop. A few things:

Above are some articles announcing the collaboration between BW and Great Lakes Theater. I understand the program will focus on classical training; the collaboration with Great Lakes will permit students the chance to earn professional experience and equity points prior to (also open to the MTs).

insane time for sure

@artskids - I would count myself as pretty clueless about the BFA Acting as well. D and I didn’t really discuss any of that over break - and I did the parent talkback at one audition in the fall… which was really just answering questions from a parent perspective about BW!

@toowonderful - Also haven’t heard anything about a transition period - but again - D and I haven’t really discussed anything about the audition process recently. I will say, that Vicky does a talkback immediately prior to the parent talkback - and she mentioned to the parents there that they disliked the prescreens the year that they did them - so I would doubt that a prescreen is coming back. My observation in November was that auditions ran very similarly to how they ran in November 14 when my D auditioned… so if changes are coming - it doesn’t seem that it will be this year.

Who has auditions this weekend? My D has Belmont. BAL to all!!

We are heading to Belmont! Tell you D to BAL @owensfolks!

I wish! The anticipation is killing me! Nothing here till Unifieds :frowning:

We are at P Park…BAL to everyone who is auditioning this weekend …and the next and the next…lol

I auditioned on campus at BW on Nov 19. They are changing the way they do auditions. There is no piano assessment thingy any more. Music Theory assessment is the ONLY thing you will take when you are there. They have split up monologues and songs. First I auditioned for Scott Plate and all the acting teacher. (These are the same people I auditioned for in my BFA in Acting audition) It was in this cozy office room. Very quaint. Next I went up some steps to audition for Vicky. Other people were in the room. (I’m guessing voice instructors) Sang my songs and that was it until the dance call. If anyone has questions feel free to ask!

@theaterwork have fun at Point Park! My D is there, but I don’t think she’s working at auditions this weekend. All the freshmen are getting ready for their first PPU auditions for the Playhouse Jr. season.

My son did not pass MT prescreens for PACE but resubmitted for BFA Acting. He found out today he was invited to live auditions. Anyone else’s child doing this or have gone through this? Since there is no vocal or dance component, is the audition literally 3 minutes??? Thanks!

@nodaybut2daymom my D auditioned for BFA acting at pace last year. They also have a BFA for film, tv and voice overs. And a BA acting option. All are a different audition process.

For the BFA acting my D auditioned on campus. I have heard the process was the same for friends who auditioned in Chicago.

They had all performance majors auditioning that day so it was crowded. We were told to reserve about four hours.
We signed in and they did a presentation. Then they split the BFA acting kids into three groups and took each group into audition one group at a time. Each group was gone for at least 45 min if not more. They did their monologue and then were assigned a scene partner and given a scene to work on for a few minutes. Then they performed the scene. After each group they posted a callback list of about 3-5 names. If on the list you had to wait for all three groups to finish and then do a movement callback. This took about another hour I think. I can’t remember exactly except that we definitely ran later than expected. We were at Pace 5-6 hours. A lot of it was wait time.

I don’t know details for BFA film,tv and voiceover auditions or for the BA performance ensemble.

Hope that helps.

@bfahopeful Great information…very helpful! if you are not placed on the “call back” list that day does that mean you are rejected or no longer considered for the program? Thanks!

@nodaybut2daymom -yes that is what it means (no callback means you are no longer in the running). When asked last year they didn’t come
Right out and say it but did say “if not called back today you can anticipate what your letter from the PA dept will say.” Meaning it won’t be an acceptance or waitlist.

They should just say it. Other schools are very clear about this. No reason to beat around the bush.
I should also add that a callback doesn’t equal admission/waitlist. We know some kids called back but not admitted or waitlisted.

@owensfolks Please tell her we say BAL this weekend!

My D has Texas State callback this weekend! Fingers crossed…

@nodaybut2daymom my D is auditioning for both acting programs at Pace on 2/25

Did you see the acceptance thread that was stated on another board? It’s only for MT so I can’t participate but most of you can!

D has audition at Rider this weekend. First one in a long list thru the end of February!
