My D is auditioning at UNCSA tomorrow! So excited! That is her number 1! She went to the summer intensive and fell in love. Any advice out there is always helpful.Thanks.
Break a leg to your D, @kaf011! What year did she do DSI? My D was there Summer of 2015, and is now in their High School Drama program. Just tell her to be authentic/honest, in her work, and in any questions that she is asked. She should see plenty of familiar faces from DSI, so hopefully that will set her at ease.
@kaf011 All the best to your D! I am new here too and people have been great. I can’t say anything about the Elon thing. I am also new to e audition process and have been stressing that I know so little!
Day 1 of Unifieds done! All California schools coincidentally…,UCLA, CalArts and Chapman! Got a walk-in for The New School but they were running late and she ended up having to leave.
@owensfolks. My D did this past summer 2016 for the DSI. She made great friends there. Congrats @marg928 for Day I of Unifieds done. We go to FSU next Friday then on to Chicago Unifieds! I agree @momtojoss this is a crazy process and none of my D’s friends or their moms really know what its like, so I’ve been reading the forums for a year now and it is so helpful. I hope and pray for at least 1 BFA offer! Break a leg to all of you!
Audition Experience at USC:
Posting this because some of the USC audition experiences I have read on CC have been negative and my daughter had a fantastic experience! I don’t want anyone else to be scared like we were.
Started with an information session at 8:15 by the Assistant Dean of Academic and Student Services. She was funny and warm and discussed the BFA and BA programs and answered a bunch of parent and student questions. The overall vibe was very relaxed and welcoming. The kids were divided into groups, A, B and C. My daughter was in the A group and so her order of activities was Audition, Prep time, and Interview. She performed both monologues, and wasn’t asked to do any adjustments, but no one in her group was asked to do any either. The two female auditors were nice and did ask her a few questions at the end regarding her interest in film. Next it was the prep time. She used this time to get something to eat with another auditioning student and relax a little bit since she already performed her monologues.
The last section was the interview. She interviewed with the Assistant Dean. She loved her interview. Again, it was a warm, welcoming vibe. She felt relaxed and comfortable and was able to be herself. Literally right after the interview, the Assistant Dean sent my D an email saying she enjoyed meeting her, etc. I don’t know if she did this for all of the kids, but I thought that this was a really nice touch!
So the good news: USC was not intimidating or uptight. My D had a great experience.
Bad news: On average they receive 1,300 applicants every year for 60 spots in BA and 16 in BFA program.
My D is literally over the moon about this school! Send good thoughts and prayers!
Good to know @anitapitamom. My D has hers at Unifieds in Chicago for USC. Glad she had a great audition and loves it! Prayers for getting in for your D.
@kaf011 Prayers for your D too! I know we have to trust in the process and that everything works out, but it sure is hard to wait! lol!
That’s great to hear about USC. My D had UCLA, Chapman and CalArts yesterday. USC is in NY on 2/5. At the end of her CalArts audition the female auditor looked at her list of schools (including USC) and made it a point to tell her she wouldn’t get the same training there as she would at CalArts. She told her she loved her look and said to email her to arrange going there and shadowing a student. Then she gave her a card and said not to let anyone see it! Good sign I would say!
That is a good sign @marg928 Congrats on a great audition.
@marg928 Yay! That is so exciting!
If anyone has had their TCU/SMU auditions would you mind sharing your experiences? D flies to Dallas this weekend…
BAL to your D, @anitapitamom! My D is auditioning for TCU at Chicago Unifieds, so please let us know how it goes.
My D is in her last Unifieds audition…a walk-in for Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She’s been cool as a cucumber this whole weekend…it has been a good experience! She came out of Cornish a little while ago so happy…she said “that was awesome!”
Sounds like she has had a GREAT weekend, @marg928! That’s so awesome.
@CMB625 Hi! When did she audition at Belmont? My D auditioned 1/14. Thanks!
Has any one received a “yes” from CCM? Ive see several “on holds” as well as “No’s”. Is this how they do usually? I just have not seen anyone with an actual yes (?) I know they were at NY Unifieds as well as having auditions in Cincinnati this weekend~I am asking for bothe the BFA for MT and the BFA in Acting
@Mtmomkbh she auditioned back in November and got an answer pretty quickly. She did not audition for Belmonts MT program, only for the BFA Acting. Did your D like Belmont?
@Mtmomkbh This may be helpful.

As you see, the earliest yes notification (with one exception I can think of who heard in like Nov.) for CCM (for those who responded), was 2/11. Everything is subject to change of course, but this list gives a rough idea of when notifications went out last year.
Hi Everyone! So went made our way up to NY for a Pace audition and 2 schools, Penn State and Montclair, at unifieds this weekend. First, I am totally exhausted and there were way too many people in NYC these past 4 days! Our Friday Pace audition was on campus, for MT. My S said the dance was one routine that was a Frank Sinatra style and very challenging. Then off to monologue and songs. They asked him the “Why Pace” question and the “what’s your dream role” question and interviewed him after he sang. If anyone has a child that is auditioning there and wants further details, PM me. Saturday wa a free day so my S spent the day at The Musuem of Modern Art and took pictures in Central Park. Nice day. Our hell day was Sunday, where he had an 8am dance call with Montclair! Getting up at 5:30am was NOT fun. Montclair folks were fantastic. He loved the choreographer, he was really intense, and pushed the kids in a good way. He felt an instant connection with them. The dance was a Bob Fosse Chorus Line type style routine. He then did his monologue and songs. They asked him to prepare 2 monologues, but when he got in the room, they asked him which he felt was the better of the two and they said that he should do that one. They were saying that to everyone we spoke to. He came out of that audition really happy and he said that he really had good conversation with them. He is VERY interested in Montclair.
We went back to the hotel for a few hours and went back to Pearl Studio for the Penn State dance call and an hour and a half later, the songs/monologue part. He didn’t really have much to say about Penn State. The dance was the easiest of the 3 schools. A simple ballet combination and a modern type jazz routine. He finally did his vocal/monologue at 4:15pm. It went well enough, the student accompanist was too slow and wouldn’t speed up. Overall, there was no connection there. Again, if you want more details about Penn State, PM me.
Unifieds are a necessary evil, but it was insane. I was feeling guilty, taking pleasure in people watching, silently evaluating everyone’s fashion choices and seeing kids being sassy to thieir poor parents that are just trying to help. Hey, my kid could be as sassy as the rest of them at times. At the end of the day, I hope this is all going to help him make an educated decision about his college choice. It’s just totally wearing me out and over the next few weeks we have to travel to Webster and Shenandoah and I am NOT looking forward to the drive. I met some really nice families this weekend and it was nice passing the time with them. Have a good night everyone!
