We were thanking our lucky stars to have 3 MT choices. Some people get none, so getting even one is awesome! And that is all you need! One!
@theaterwork Helloooo! Welcome to my world!! At this point I am second guessing all the time! But everyone is right it just takes one!
@theaterwork yeah, definitely freaking out - auditions are underway, it’s out of our hands, and there are no re-dos. Positive thoughts :-SS
This is the time to really make sure that your child loves their safety and or has a solid plan if there are no offers. Don’t get blindsided and find yourself overwhelmed if things don’t turn out as expected.
My D was pretty content with her second choice school until going to an audition last weekend and hearing about the huge number of schools that most of the other students applied to. She really didn’t want to go overboard applying back in Sept-Nov. and now she is kind of regretting it. She has been accepted for BFA MT at Lipscomb and for BFA Acting at Belmont and has auditioned at UNCSA. Last night she applied to Western Carolina University. I keep telling her that she will thrive no matter where she goes though!
I know we were told that for every 14 programs a non-ethnic female auditions for they will average 2.5 acceptances. (How does anyone figure that out?!?!) My concern now is that I let my D apply for programs that it is very unlikely we will be able to afford - even with excellent academics - we aren’t prepared for the price tags at a lot of these programs.
I went through our list in an effort to cut down on the total, and ran a Net Price calculator for each one - ruled out some based on that. I think it’s fine to have one or two financial reaches in the same way that it is to have artistic reaches, but “balance” is our friend!
Those are two really solid acceptances, @CMB625 ! I WISH were were in the same boat!
@owensfolks , thank you, we are thrilled with either one of those programs! D loves UNCSA so we will just wait and see what happens.
You get no argument from me there, @CMB625! I am horribly biased-but UNCSA is a very special place.
Is anyone at NY Unifieds this weekend? Break legs!!!
@CMB625 my D was accepted to Western Carolina for MT . We are going to be revisiting there this spring as when she auditioned we only got to tour for a short time .
@mtmamma2020 yes I’ll be there with my D! Will you be?
@CMB625 Wow! Congrats! My D going to Belmont in Feb. How soon did you find out? I am afraid now all these schools we have scheduled have filled their quotas or whatever it’s called! Very excited for you!
@momtojoss She auditioned for Belmont in November and found out 2 days after her audition! They called her and then sent a confirmation letter later that week. I wouldn’t worry about Belmont having filled their class as they haven’t had that many auditions yet. The people there are super nice and we love the campus environment. Everyone we met at the auditions was great! And thanks for the congrats!
@marg928 no – I went through this craziness last year with my D – was just thinking the chatter had been light especially with unifieds this weekend. Break legs and keep us posted!
My D’s backup plan was very well thought out. In September. Artistic safeties, financial safeties, and totally different major safeties (in case she didn’t get into any BFA MTs, or redirects to BFA Acting): She just received her acceptance to NC State for their Sport Management program (she loves sports-especially ice hockey; excels at stats, business, organization.) I was kind of excited. SHE tweeted:
“Accepted to NC State for Sports Management. Too bad I’ve decided in the past 4 months that I’m going to be a starving artist instead”
Alrighty then…
I’m new to CC and my D auditioned at Elon for BFA acting today. Very inviting faculty and liked how they had a movement class and then were able to observe an acting class prior to auditions. She felt her audition went well, but they didn’t ask her any questions or ask her to make any adjustments, just thanked her at the end. During the information session they really talked about using today to have them there to get to know them, but confused because they didn’t really interview her after her monologues. Is this a bad sign?
Break a leg to all at Unified auditions! And take comfort in this: at least there’s no blizzard this year!
LOL @actorparent ! Something to be grateful for :-* Good luck to all the families.
