Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

Hola. Someone asked about Webster. We didn’t follow through on the audition because we decided on Viterbo, but we did a thorough visit at Webster. They are a class act. If you are scheduled for a tour in conjunction with your audition, you are going to be impressed. We were told, “First and foremost, we are looking for an actor.” That isn’t to say that you shouldn’t do your very best on dance and singing, but I would definitely not shortchange the monologue. In fact, one admissions person told us that the dance audition is part of the “visit/tour” and to not get worked up about it. If you need somewhere to eat close to campus, there is an Imo’s Pizza. Pretty good! BAL.

One more thing, several programs take 8 to 12, thus the need to cast a wide net in this competitive race. As I recall, Webster takes a small class, too. Fingers crossed for everybody.

Do you a son or daughter who is going to Vitterbo? Can you tell me more about the program?

Yes, @momofaEwinger. My D is in her 4th semester at Viterbo and is getting excellent training. Many of the faculty are working AEA professionals in the industry. The main dance teacher is Shane Rhoades, who has numerous Broadway credits. Lots of one-on-one attention and mentorship in every discipline, not just MT. Please feel free to send me a pm, and I will wax poetic.

I know a freshman MT BFA at Webster who is over the moon thrilled with the program! She auditioned in LA so I don’t have much to say about their on campus auditions. Good luck!

We are going to the Webster audition on the 18th and they my daughter that there isn’t a dance call. I’m confused. Was there one at previous auditions?

We did The Hartt School and BoCo this past weekend. Both had a pretty long dance call, about 90 mintues - 2 hours.
D felt both auditions were both on the generic side, not much feedback, which seems to be the case for most of her auditions so far except for CMU. Who knows if that is a good or bad thing. She always comes out feeling like she did her best and that is all she can do!

I am TIRED! 5 auditions down (4/5 out of state). All that are left are Unifieds (she is going with her PA HS class), and 3 in state auditions. We traveled to Florida State this weekend. My D loved everything about it, and felt like she had a great audition. I was very impressed, and feel like the program would be a great fit for her. I love hearing everyone’s audition updates-keep 'em coming!

@brightstaral we go this weekend and I thought there was. We haven’t heard otherwise. So I don’t know. Haven’t heard from them except for what time to get there and where to park. I guess you could email and ask. Let us know what you find out!!

@owensfolks I have my fingers crossed for FSU. I would for that to be in the mix when it comes to decision time.

It is so strange when the academic acceptances are now starting to roll in daily, several with ginormous scholarship dollars, and you want so badly to jump up and down with excitement but you hop up and down with controlled enthusiasm instead knowing that it all hinges on the artistic admission. I mean, you feel really happy but you know it is just the first step. It is so hard to explain this crazy process to family and friends who just think getting admitted to the school is enough. We are really keeping all of these college acceptances on the down low for now.

It must be nice to get ginormous offers! Except for Pace (which gives to everyone) we won’t get anything. I was hoping for at least something modest from Loyola Marymount but nothing but a $2,000 early action award. I can’t justify spending $65K for a theater degree so LMU is probably off the table.

We have been pleasantly surprised. I figured D would get something based an her academics because she is an outstanding student and has maintained a 4 + GPA, but I guess I underestimated the value it would bring because we have been so focused on the artistic part of the process. So I’m super proud of her and very excited - just wish it we could seal the deal but we will just have to wait and see where she lands.

@sopranomtmom I feel exactly the same way! But I do tell people that she has been accepted everywhere she applied academically. Then I try to explain he audition process and people are like…oh. We have gotten some scholarship money for academics but compared to the cost of the schools it’s a drop in the bucket. Oh well. We will see what happens.

I could be wrong but from what I have observed from numerous threads on CC, most schools only care about standardized test scores when it comes to giving out merit money. I find it a sad shame, really, It’s like they’re saying a student who works hard, is involved in their school and challenges themselves, has an excellent GPA but doesn’t have a stratospheric SAT score is not worthy of consideration…and talent doesn’t seem to fit into this equation either for the BFA students.

Our high school asked everyone to turn in total amounts offered for scholarships. D had good ACT/SAT scores, so got some good offers - pretty sure we pulled up the total significantly. No one else at our school auditioned for more than 3-5 schools & most only 1 or 2! =))

@MTmom2017 Performing Arts HS? I was surprised when my D ran into someone from her non PA HS by the elevators at Ripley Grier this weekend. I had no idea anyone else from her school was auditioning for BFA programs. Well, actually I found out a couple of weeks ago that one of her guy friends is auditioning for four schools. I didn’t even know the kid did any acting LOL. I just hope the parents know how competitive it is and made sure he’s prepared. Four schools scares me!

Literally when my D gets an academic acceptance she just says “Oh ok” lol ! well except for one school that she thought she might not get in early action cause it’s competitive. Otherwise she can’t get excited like the traditional student which is a bummer but it is what it is. She was happy one school gave her some scholarship money that was significant.
she’s just really a ball of stress right now! She told
me last night she’s hoping for at least one more acceptance. “Or maybe two would be like crazy awesome” yes it would!

Not PA, @marg928. She had a few friends from her youth theatre group who auditioned, but they all went to different high schools.

@momtojoss will you let me know about Webster? My D emailed and they said no. She had a friend who auditioned for them at NY Unifieds who didn’t experience a dance call. Seemed odd.
