Oh the emotional rollercoaster of this process has about worn me out tonight. D got her first rejection yesterday. So tough! Today she got the part she wanted in the school spring production. Hooray! Tonight she found out a friend got an acceptance from a school at the top of my D’s list. The friend auditioned last wekend, my D auditioned in Nov. and hasn’t heard either way. Not sure my mama heart can take the month of Feb. 4 more auditions to go…
Has anyone received any decisions from NY unifieds yet? My S only did walkins so he needed to apply afterwards to a few schools. Seems like it’s been quiet with decisions so far…atleast among the people he knows that have auditioned.
@owensfolks We are heading to FSU the last weekend in February. My S is auditioning for MT on their final audition day, in the final hour time slot…not sure if that’s good or bad. I am excited to see the campus, glad you loved it! Any advice??
In case anyone MTers are auditioning at Hartt and Pace my D auditioned for them last weekend she is a dancer and thought Hartt was easy and Pace was challenging. She loved the whole experience and can’t wait for Chicago Uni her first audition is for UMich at Joffery Ballet very exciting anyone else? BAL!!!
@nodaybut2daymom - We were at NY Unifieds, but my S only auditioned for Montclair and Penn State. We haven’t heard anything. There were at least 2 people that were at NY unifieds that got an acceptance and a deferrel from Penn State. He auditioned on campus at Pace that weekend too. Pace said that they send all their info out in March.
@brightstaral - my heart hurts for you. I hate the word rejection. This is a 4 year commitment for your daughter and if the school didn’t think that it was a fit, she is better off. She should go to a school where the faculty is excited about her. Good luck to your daughter!
No word from Unifieds and the MTCA director posted the same on her Sunday FB acceptance post. I did wake up to an email from UNCSA regarding missing documents though. Somehow I forgot to send them her SAT/ACT scores!!
Here are the MTCA acceptances that were posted on FB on Sunday…Manhattan School of Music MT (girl) , Rider MT (2 girls, 1 boy), Temple acting (boy), Marymount acting (girl), Penn state MT (boy), LIU MT(girl), SCAD MT (girl), Emerson theater & Perf (girl), UArts Playwriting/directing/prod (girl)
@brightstar Right there with you! Just had myself re-read the thread “thinking you rocked and declined and bombed but got in” (that’s not quite right but you guys know what I’m talking about) . You find yourself second guessing everything! And to be honest it’s hard reading some of these threads, I may go off a while. Your d or a comes out and says “Audition was good” but then you read someone that says "they talked to me for half an hour! It’s hard to not have heart sink. And second guessing everything from audition outfits to song choices … have to just have faith… prepare, do your best and what is meant to be will be. Much easier said than done
@musicmama123 , I know exactly what you mean about the having faith. I keep telling my D that she will land where God has prepared a nest for her. She is unlike most of the students who have auditioned for numerous programs as she didn’t choose to do any unified auditions. She only auditioned for a few schools and her dream school (UNCSA). The day that letter arrives (one way or the other) from UNCSA is going to be very interesting. Haha, I joked that I was going to leave it on the kitchen table and then just leave the house…
My D doesn’t even start auditions until Unifieds so I’m a hot mess of anxiety. I wish that our schedule and the school schedules had coincided so that she could’ve had several auditions under her belt by now. Oh well. I’m crossing my fingers and trying not to worry. Ha! Right.
@marg928 “I was surprised when my D ran into someone from her non PA HS by the elevators at Ripley Grier this weekend. I had no idea anyone else from her school was auditioning for BFA programs.”
That was one of the strangest things we encountered - secrecy of the school lists lists (and even keeping secret that students are auditioning). My kids went to a PA HS so we generally knew who was planning to audition but those lists were classified. You know - if I tell you, I’ll have to kill you!
I’m wondering if anyone can help me with this…I recall reading on some school’s website somewhere that sheet music should not be in plastic protective sheets. Now as we are preparing to go to Unifieds, I cannot find which school that was. Does anyone recall seeing that ever? If so, what school? Thanks!
I felt the same way a little over a week ago @Mardeen…but then she banged out 12 auditions between 1/21 and 1/29! I feels goooood! Two more schools this weekend and we’re done except for one road trip to DC!
No worries @Mardeen. My S didn’t start until Unifieds in 2015. He still had plenty of acceptances.
@tabers - back in 2014 that was Otterbein - check their website to see if that is still their preference. They have a new director so things may have changed.
@kategrizz - Thanks so much! Otterbein was on, then off, my D’s list, so that would explain it!
I remember in a previous year on CC, people started saying “redirection” instead of “rejection.” They’re not rejecting you - they’re steering you to a school that’s a better fit for you.
Thank you, @marg928 and @IfYouOnlyKnew. I’m trying to get my control freak tendencies under control and let my D own this whole experience. Not so easy to do!
@brightstaral We are living the same life, I think. D got a rejection from one of her very top schools, and then got the lead in her musical within the same week. Unifieds (well, pre-unifieds) starts this weekend, and she is FREAKING out. And hey did I mention pretty much every single school’s financial aid app is due this week? Which is fantastic, since she applied to 25 schools. Laughing and crying at the same time
@Mardeen oh boy I’m quite the control freak as well! It’s struggle to keep in under control!
