Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

@MomofMTBoy – a few program decisions for JMU were sent in January to those who were admitted academically EA to the university. The rest of the program admissions for those admitted EA academically will be posted within the next 10 days. RD program decisions will be available at the same time RD academic decisions are posted in March. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you @LAM2017. It was a long shot & wasn’t meant to be. I did chuckle a little at the rejection letter (actually it was quite nice) which went to great lengths to explain that more qualified students apply than they have room for in their program. Really? You don’t say!

Aww. @mmm333 My D says thanks! LIU went very well. Getting to bed early to be ready for tomorrow. No fun spending all these weekends in NYC and not getting to see any shows, but can’t stay out that late. I-)

Very proud of my sick daughter for soldiering through Elon yesterday and WCU today. She had no voice both mornings, napped during breaks, and faked it until the adrenaline & cold meds took hold! One more audition next Saturday-YAY! I hope that everyone had awesome auditions.

@owensfolks wow what a weekend! You never know what will happen. I’ve had friends who’s kids were sick during auditions and those are the programs they got in!!

@owensfolks my D was there too loved loved Elon fingers crossed one of our top choices!! I think the Zinc tablets and flu shot helped us stayed healthy thru the whole thing. We had a blast in Greensboro exploring all day Sat. Onto our last audition on Sunday. Then we wait…

Has anyone heard from Coastal Carolina that auditioned in Chicago? When and how do they notify? Anyone know???

D has 3 auditions left and I’m contemplating and re thinking everything now… is anyone else doing this?! Did she audition at enough schools…should we have gone to Unifieds …did she choose the right songs…did we have the right list of schools… etc etc…aargh! Just venting …
Carry on…

@nodaybut2daymom - If it helps, last year my daughter was in the first group to be offered admission and she heard March 10th via email. She auditioned on campus mid-January. I believe they wait till all auditions are complete before offers go out. They have one audition weekend left. And then Senior Showcase in NYC March 6th & 7th. (That is why they notified when they did last year due to Showcase).
I was visiting this weekend and my D was working auditions. So interesting to be there on the other side and seeing all the auditioners. D wanted to work the auditions because her audition experience and interaction with the faculty on that day was what solidified her decision to attend CCU, and she wanted to participate and share the experience with the current auditioners. Best of luck!!

Your D has three great acceptances so far… I would say you guys are sitting pretty  @theaterwork

Has anyone heard from Indiana yet? They said they were making calls tonight and no one that i know has heard… getting nervous

@stagedoormama Thanks for the info! My S loved the faculty he met at Chicago unifieds…he is hoping for good news. Fingers crossed!

@EIS0301 My D auditioned yesterday at IU but we have not heard anything yet.

“Second guessing” & “reading into audition remarks” seems to be my full time job @theaterworks! We just had a couple rejections and I’m wishing there were time to add a few schools to replace them on her list! As if I can stomp out rejections with acceptances. This process will drive you crazy! We KNEW going in that there’d be more rejections than acceptances but somehow that’s been pushed to the back of my mind. As if the only validation would be if somehow she were the exception to every rule I know to be true! Ack! It’s a whole lot easier as an armchair quarterback. We too have three auditions left…wondering if we did enough.

@nodaybut2daymom -Ah you have a son! I can say that I know they are REALLY looking for boys this year.

@stagedoormama Hopefully he is one of the boys they are looking for! LOL He felt the audition went really well; but, we know that doesn’t necessarily lead to an acceptance…as we have read on CC so many times. He was already academically accepted with some scholarship money so here’s to hoping the artistic decision will be favorable! Thanks again.

@MTheaterMom, what an awful story. I"m so sorry! Obviously your kiddo isn’t the only one in your family with acting talent if you were able to hide your shock & disgust from her - kudos to you for that.

I find it shocking that anyone involved in performing arts and entrusted with this job would be so insensitive as to bad-mouth one of the students in a public place filled with strangers. (Would have been horrible enough even without using names, & in that case, every parent in the room might be worrying if their kid could’ve been the target.). Incredibly unprofessional.

IMHO, you CLEARLY did the right thing in the moment - no point in making an ugly situation even worse by drawing additional attention to it. But I’m very glad to hear you’re planning to alert them.

Best of luck to your daughter!

Looking for information/opinions on MSM… My daughter has an audition coming up but we are tired out. Haven’t heard from anyone after both NY and Chicago Unifieds and the suspense is killing us. This weekend she got an in the room acceptance and now we feel a little done (maybe we can relax??). Just wondering how parents/current students feel about the MSM experience? Financial aid? The fact that they over accepted last year - and will have such a big class in front of them? Any feedback would be so appreciated!

Copying and pasting from a different thread:
Still very curious about Elon. Does anyone get into this school? They talked about their super scoring system at audition. Does anyone know how many are admitted? We know how many choose to go, but what’s their yield? Since it’s such a great program…

@mtdancer5678 we visited Elon in August and it was very high on the list coming into the process. In the end my daughter decided not to apply. My concern about Elon is that they are missing out on a boatload of talent by not going to any regional auditions. One of their audition weekends on campus is actually the same weekend as New York unifieds which is so foolish on their part. If memory serves me there were only four audition dates to choose from and two of them were in the fall on Fridays which was impossible for my daughter during football season. Unfortunately we just had to let it go because It just would’ve been too much to travel there on the last date that was available when she had two other auditions in New York that weekend. I know there are kids in the program who used our same coach and he spoke highly of the program. I believe it classified it as a tier 2 program. They definitely do not put as much weight on the audition there as they do the academics. Academics are very important and evaluated separate from the audition.
