Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

@theaterwork my d did 14 auditions at Moonifieds before Thanksgiving and 1 last week and one more this coming Sunday. The waiting has been stressful and don’t get me started on the second guessing. I cannot wait until this process is over with. My d is taking this far better than I. Good Luck to Everyone. BAL

The kids who get early accepted to BW will get a gazillion other offers – and even superstars can only go to one school at a time. They wouldn’t be auditioning if they weren’t still looking for talent.

It’s crazy to think I’m already hearing audition results from Chicago Unifieds and auditions after that! Between yesterday and today I found out that I was rejected from Ball State for MT, but I’m accepted at Seton Hill. 1 yes, 1 no, still waiting on 15 more schools haha. Can’t believe this is already happening!

@LBSMOM The waiting and second-guessing will make you crazy! I did not know about CC until after the audition season was over for my S. We did have some guidance but I still have some regrets about his being over-scheduled his senior year (and cutting his list back to 7 BFA programs so he could fit in the auditions plus all the show commitments). Two years later, I felt much better about my D’s list but she, too was overcommitted and had to send a video in for a callback weekend (rather than attending in person). It is a hard balance. My biggest regrets were not pushing them to back down on outside commitments to be sure they were fully engaged in the process and listening to people who did not have my (or their) best interests at heart. Live and learn. Hang in there!

For all us “waiters”, I decided to look up some “comforting” platitudes about waiting like “A watched pot never boils.” and such. I found this one and it made me laugh. Thought this might help us all lighten up a bit.

“Patience, grasshopper," said Maia. “Good things come to those who wait.”

“I always thought that was ‘Good things come to those who do the wave,’” said Simon. "No wonder I’ve been so confused all my life.”

― Cassandra Clare, City of Glass

Reading all this brings back so so many memories and not all of them good. When Unifieds are over, and your last audition is done, the “Waiting” is the WORST!!! I remember us portal checking over and over and over… trust me – you, the class of 2021 will get through this and with the “no’s” there will be “yes’’” for your kids – hang in there. I don’t believe everyone necessarily “ends up where they are supposed to be” mainly because I believe there is way more than one fit for each kid – I do believe that most find a great fit; mine is not where she thought she would be but is happier than she ever expected – hang in there!!

We are still auditioning and we’ll see you in Norman

Does anyone know how many BW accepts to yield 20 kids? We were there on Sunday but did not ask that question. And also, for the 17 kids who have already been accepted, did they all audition before January? There are six audition dates scheduled in February, and from those six dates they are looking at kids to fill, what, maybe 5 more spots? Those are very slim odds. If we had know that, I would have signed my S up for a November audition date. I get that some spots will still be filled by February auditioners but still, it seems like BW audition numbers definitely favor the earlier auditions.

@MomofMTBoy Remember, an offer of acceptance doesn’t mean that a spot is necessarily taken. Those who’ve been accepted to BW will likely be accepted elsewhere, so they will be making decisions, like the rest of us, on which school is the best fit - artistically, geographically, financially, etc.

Don’t think that just because they’ve put out 17 offers, that all there are only a few spots left. No one really knows what goes into the process of putting out acceptances, but I do know they wouldn’t waste time with auditions if they weren’t still considering each and every student. Stay positive!

I’m not going to read the acceptance thread until I have something to post there myself!

Remember more offers than spots available are usually made. There is a link hopefully someone can find where the number of (estimated) offers were made is found. Usually schools make more offers than they have spots for because kids will have multiple choices.

@ALS0830 where are y’all located? My D is also hoping to audition on March 24th but I’m still trying to figure out transportation there.

Found this link if anyone is curious…

@MomofMTBoy I auditioned for BW on the 2nd aud day. Nov 19 I believe. There were soo many people at the audition and I dont think anyone there got it. At the most maybe 1 or 2. I’m not sure it would have made much of a difference when you audition. If you want to at least try I would go. It was a great environment with great people. Very fun audition!

I swear I have developed stomach problems due to all of this.

Ps – never ever underestimate the power of a waitlist!!!

Thanks everyone, @bisouu, we may not be offered financial aid since they are offering in state tuition IF she get accepted to MT. At least I’m trying to convince myself of that.

@momtojoss… I could totally relate to your comment…the stress of waiting has aged me by a good 10 years! All of my gray hair is benifiting my hairdresser! LOL

Mailman JUST came by, and I had been waiting up-because something told me that we were due. A “no” from Ithaca. Ithaca wasn’t super high on D’s list-until Unifieds, where she felt like she had a great audition; she really liked the faculty, and thought that they really loved her work. D is “bummed”, but is aware that this is part of the process :frowning:

@theaterwork I saw you just posted an acceptance to WCU! Congratulations! Did you get a letter or an email?

@owensfolks my D got hers today too…my daughter said, “I love coming home from school to a rejection.” :frowning:
