@CMB625 my D got accepted earlier I’m just getting around to posting it on that thread lol.
It was an email initially and then a follow up hard copy in mail.
@owensfolks and @followurheart D got her “no” from Ithaca today too. This process is so difficult. It seems like torture to just keep getting rejections. I wish we could get them all at once and be done with it.
@nodaybut2daymom I have found I am buying my Nice&Easy hair color more often! Ha! But that just could be my age. My face Is also going downhill (literally) rapidly! I feel like I go around with a grimace on my face constantly and my wrinkles are making themselves deeper and more at home! My “resting B face” is becoming legendary. Sigh. I know whatever happens she will be happy because she will be doing theater. I keep telling myself that. Over and over. And why the heck am I more stressed than she is??? It’s twisted I tell you twisted!!! :))
@LAM2017 @owensfolks and @followurheart , I just got the Ithaca rejection as well. A sad outcome, considering I did like them a bit, but not devastating, and in fact relieving; hadn’t had a rejection through prescreens and the one school that has notified me prior to Ithaca, so it was good to get one out of the way so I could experience t and figure out how to roll with the punches. Bound to be more rejections than acceptances so gearing up for the coming weeks.
thank you @artskids - you have made me feel a little better. My daughter had to give up everything this year in order to apply to an insane amount of colleges - finish her prescreens and attend all of these auditions. Her school does the big musical this month and sadly even though it is her senior year - she is not in it. She is in tears that she is spending a whole year not doing a musical (we are super rural - and the pickings are slim outside of school). And yet giving things up was the right thing to do - she has stayed amazingly healthy and on-top of things. I am sure there are lots of other kids in the same boat…
@singoutlouise You will likely find she (and you) made the right choice! My third is a HS junior so just starting on the road. One of the toughest discussions we are having is pulling back on performance opportunities next year. After all, this is what they THRIVE on. We are very fortunate in that she attends a PA HS 1/2 days and her HS has an active drama program. However, I now disagree that the kids need to squeeze every little performance opportunity they can onto their resumes. There are certainly exceptions but it is really important to focus on possibly filling some training gaps (in my D’s case, dance) and spending adequate time researching schools, working on the audition package, staying healthy (!) and [gasp] enjoying senior year of HS! I’ve done a 180 from my first time through the process and applaud you for figuring it out for your D!
Im so confused why everyone is saying that BW has accepted 17 already. We were there on Sunday and were told by faculty that only 4 spots had been filled.
Anyone get an Ithaca acceptance?
@Alcoka1, it could mean that only 4 have accepted, but they’ve got offers out to 17.
@Alcoka1, schools send out “offers for admittance” and we sometimes call those offers “acceptances to a program” but really they are just offers. BW apparently has sent out 17 offers for admittance. Out of those 17, 4 kids have accepted and put down money to reserve their space. The remaining kids have until May 1 to accept that offer (and the acceptance usually must be accompanied by $$). BW will hold a spot for all kids they made an offer to until May 1. It gets confusing because some call an “offer” from a college “an acceptance to the program.” Clears it all up, right?
Yes @Alcoka1 we were all alluding to the thread where someone posted that they have made 17 offers to students but only have had 4 I guess actually commit.
I’ve officially decided it is what it is and not to fret over stuff you can’t control. Whatever! Lol just gotta knock out these last few auditions and try to enjoy rest of senior year! It’s only a few more months! :((
D auditioned at BW this past weekend - unlike others on the board she was less enthusiastic about the audition then she was going into it. I think because the day was so long - she was one of the first to audition that day and had to wait around until 4 for the dance call. Then we had to drive to DC! They mentioned an 8% acceptance rate into the program. I told her if she gets in, it would be the equivalent to winning the lottery!
@LBSMOM Haha! I told my daughter after her B-W audition that we needed to go buy a lottery ticket because she had better odds at winning that. I keep telling my D that she’s “building character” by going through this process.
8% is not a bad acceptance rate if you look at all the programs. I believe @EmsDad did some calculations a few years back!
@Alcoka1 and @MomofMTBoy Sorry to muddy the waters a bit more – but putting down a deposit this early doesn’t mean a lot either because those are refundable until May 1st (usually). So a deposit means they don’t want to lose that option, but they could still be waiting to hear from another program. I think @theaterwork has the right idea, stop fretting and relax and enjoy the rest of the last year you’re likely to have with your son or daughter at home.
To distract us from trying to fathom the how’s, when’s and why’s of BFA acceptance rates, we should all go take up a less stressful hobby like firewalking!
When B&W quotes their acceptance rate of 8%, it may seem a little higher than other numbers that get quoted here on CC, however, I think what you are seeing is the difference between estimates of acceptance percentages based on class size (which have been posted on CC in past threads) vs. actual yields (which are quite rare, since the number of actual offers is usually not available).
The acceptance percentages that get quoted here on CC tend to be based on an estimate of the number auditioning and the class size, because those are generally the only data available, and this results in some pretty low percentage estimates (1200 auditioning for 12 slots results in a incredibly small percentage of 1%). Rarely do actual numbers of acceptances get quoted, which would show the real yield for the program, i.e., “20 offers went out in order to get a class size of 12.” Even when schools say they “gave out 20 offers,” I sometimes wonder how accurate these numbers are, since schools sometimes have to work their way pretty far down their waitlists and I am always curious if they really count and quote numbers based on all the offers that they actually give out. Having said that, it seems that yields at many programs have been surprisingly high over the past few years, resulting in large-than-anticipated class sizes (i.e., Manhattan School of Music last year, Rider a couple of years ago, etc.).
I did go through and count acceptances vs. rejections that were mentioned in the “Final Decisions” threads over the past few years, and I sometimes mention those numbers (I never put them in a post, I need to do that when I get some more time).
@Alcoka1 My D auditioned on February 12th and we were told the same.
On another sad note, just got the rejection letter for my D from Marymount yesterday. Did an on campus audition in January…bummer. She really like the city vibe…
Hang in there @missnypizza ! Everyone’s nos are starting now it seems. Only consolation is we are all going through it together lol! Prayers for some yes letters and emails for all soon!
Onward and upward!
@theaterwork Thanks for the support…this is the most stressful time of my life ever and it’s not even about me! Yes, I’m praying for the “one”!!! Thanks:)
