Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

So sorry @Trish0118 . We are in the same boat - a string of 5 crushing No’s in the last week, plus dealing with a very stressful situation at school. I’m pulling for you and hoping she gets that yes soon.

My heart goes out to everyone waiting. This process is very difficult! Try and keep the faith and know that your kiddos are stronger than we think! And this is making them even stronger. Wishing everyone a better week next week!

@Naevia I’m so sorry it’s been such a difficult road. We are all rooting for better news for you!

@Trish0118 Hugs to you and your D - BAL BAL for the upcoming show! And I would’ve done the same with the email, to wait until after the show. (I may have to - son’s show is week of 3/24!) Sending you both lots of good vibes for good news very soon!

I am so sorry @Trish0118 that is terrible to hear. You will get a yes, don’t lose hope!! In the meantime enjoy her last show in HS.
If you heard from TCU I better check now as we are waiting as well. Ugh. Not looking toward to this week.

@Trish0118 I hear you. My daughter had 8 rejections only as of last Monday (including pre-screens) but got 3 “yes” and a waitlist from her remaining favorites this week. I had already started planning a gap year before the news! As soon as you get one yes, it will be easier. Please know that this process is very illogical and difficult to understand for all of us, hopefully clearer after it’s all over. I continue to remind my daughter of all she has accomplished and even before the acceptances, that her results right now do not solidify her future, no matter what. Her continued determination is what will define that future and we will support that as long as she shows us her willingness to work hard.
I also kept a rejection from my daughter until after her last audition, so no judgment here!

Question about a gap year. Do you still have to get teacher recommendations from high school if they do a gap year?

@loribelle thank you - that’s good advice and you give me some hope - and yes I’ve been planning a GAP year just in case…but hopefully I’ll have good news to share soon

@hopeinMT Yes, you have to get teacher recommendations in a major subject. It proved to be somewhat trying for us this year, as my daughter did not decide on a gap year until after the school year ended. Some schools allowed the use of her recommendations they had on file from last year, which did help. The application process is a little more convoluted if you are not coming in straight out of high school, but if you get organized early, it’s not so bad.

Rejection from TCU…ugh.

@dramamama2022 @lots2learn I totally get what you are saying about “regretting not applying to…”…We had this same issue last year. Well… I had, my D is still absolutely sure she did the right thing, she feels she is at the best place for her (Syracuse), and that maybe if she had applied to other schools it wouldn’t be confusing and we would have spent additional money visiting other schools when she ended up at the perfect program for her needs…

That said, we know of many other kids class 2021) who did not apply so some programs, maybe for being stubborn, or who knows why. Some of them instead of taking a gap year, they are attending one of the schools they got accepted to, however this year have applied to a few schools they had NOT applied the year before… yes, even if that means starting from the beginning…

Sometimes I feel we put a lot of pressure in our 17/18 year old children, they might make a decision they regret, and may struggle with it…

D got a waitlist to BW, but acceptances to two other great options. She said they had 100 on waitlist for whole music school. Any recent experiences with BW waitlist (for her dream school)?

Oh my gosh so many people are hearing from TCU and nothing here. My daughter is going crazy. Her friend just came and took her out to help get her mind off of it. We honestly don’t think she will get in so I just want them to tell her so we can rip the band aid off and be done with that school. UGH

It is getting scary. If we had just one MT yes, I could breathe.

@Trish0118 we were in the exact same situation 2 weeks ago. 8 rejections. Playing Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors. I hid a snail mail rejection but her friend told her he got his letter. She gets the emails directly to her phone so she saw another rejection the day before opening night. She was so into the show she just moved pased it. Her show was awesome! And then 5 days later she got her first acceptance! Help her the show because worrying isn’t going to change anything, and deal with this insane stress after. Tell her to break a leg!

@dramamama2022 @lots2learn I can’t stop thinking about “regretting not applying to…” so many schools. I’d heard how difficult this process is but REALLY DIDN’T GET IT until now. It’s truly impossible to understand until you are going through it for yourself. And I just didn’t know enough about all the different options before we started applying. My biggest regret was not doing enough homework about the entire process and certain schools beforehand. It was just so overwhelming for me (no professional coach here) and I felt like I was doing what I could at the time, but if I could turn the clock back I would do things very differently.

I joined CC in September. Can’t help but wish I’d found it much sooner.

HUGS for you @Trish0118! I would have hidden the rejection, too. My D’s show is this week. She got a rejection from one of her Top Choices opening night. It broke her heart, but she still smiled through the show. I’m constantly amazed at our MT kids…they are truly resilient and amazing!

HUGS @fancytheatrekid!! My fingers are crossed for you!!

Spoke too soon - daughter just received a redirect to theater at TCU - she is totally fine and ready to enjoy her night out with friends.

@emdcollege sounds like your D has some amazing friends!! Glad she has plans tonight to take her mind off of things.

Thank you all I’m so glad to have the support of of this group !! You guys get it :((
