Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

I just saw a mt production of a very difficult show (35mm) and was super impressed with gmu.

@Luciamom is there a link to the show? My D got into GMU and has already decided not to go based on a video she saw of some of their music students singing. :frowning: I’d like her to at least see what the MT kids are doing before she writes them off.

@Luciamom My D is also on the BW waitlist. My S is a senior there. There are usually a few waitlisted kids in each class. I don’t have a sense of the numbers for MT waitlisted students.

@collegemom2000 Not sure if there was a video made…licensing might prohibit it. But i loved it so much i went back twice…my D got accepted there but leaning towards cua…Id call and ask and maybe setup a shadow day…I was really surprised by the quality

@Luciamom great to know! D can’t go to the Open House on the 23rd because it’s a school day so figure we have no chance to see anything. A shadow day is a good idea, thanks!

When my oldest daughter was looking for dance programs several years ago GMU was one of my favorites! They had the best dance facilities any other school that we visited.

@marg928 yes the facilities at GMU are by far some of the nicest we have seen! I just wish we had been able to see some actual performances; it’s so hard to gauge the quality of a program based on just the facilities.

@collegemom2000 well I can tell you the dance show was great! They are probably totally separate though. It’s interesting but there was literally zero talk last year about GMU in this forum.

@marg928 it’s still not listed on CC under Musical Theatre Schools, so I guess not many people know about it. My D applied there as a safety so it’s definitely low on the list for her. Nonetheless, I really liked the school when we went there so hoping to get a lot more information and feedback if possible. Plus the price is right!

To those concerned about the dance call cut short - it might not be a bad thing. My D will be a vocal performance major. Baldwin Wallace asked for 3 songs - only heard D sing one It was her hardest aria and they said they had heard enough. They also cut short her sight reading and did not work with her during the workshops. It did not sound promising to me - she felt good about the audition, and said she really believed they understood her strengths in technique and musicianship. Her acceptance email arrived last week.

Does anyone know when boco notifies ? And is it emailed? And hartt is snail mail right? Thx !

In the past BoCo notified on March 30 (or 31) and it was an email. Hartt was snail mail.

@marg928 I’m pretty sure the GMU MT program is new this year or last. They have a great voice program and a strong dance program.

@lojosmo thank you!

I called BoCo and they said “we are always last, sorry” and told me March 31. Hartt is snail mail, and they seem to notify in order of audition date.

@Trish0118 in exactly the same boat here. Plus a rejection from her no 1 academic choice and the only in state school she applied to. That means the only choices now are cc, gap year or academically attending a school she was rejected from for Theater but accepted academically. Absolutely crushing. Thankful her show doesn’t open for several weeks - I don’t know how she could do a show right now.

Anyone applying to Syracuse? We just got a notification financial aide needs more info & it’s a lot. I wonder if they need it to admit her or if we can wait & see if accepted?

@bdwybbymom I’m so sorry but I completely understand. We still have programs to hear from but the way things are going I don’t feel hopeful… I just looked into GMU (after learning about it here) and they still have openings for auditions 4/21- im going to see if my daughter would consider it. Also Montclair still having auditions we are going 3/24…not sure if that’s An option?

Bear in mind there is nothing wrong with a gap year. In some ways, I think it is positive. It may strengthen their resolve and hopefully they can take the extra time and strengthen their craft. I don’t think the schools view it as a negative. In fact, they may view it as a sign of maturity.

@Luciamom my D is a senior at BW with @artskids S. She came off the WL at BW in late April in 2014. I don’t have statistics, just anecdotal proof that you can come off the WL at BW!
