I think we will be hearing from a lot of schools this week! Going to be hard!!!
@nanamama, the CMU “myth” isn’t that if you get passed to another auditor, you’re definitely in. It’s that if you DON’T get passed, you’re definitely OUT. The idea is that if you get passed, it’s like a callback. So the only way to test that theory is to see if anyone gets accepted who WASN"T passed to another auditor.
Thank you @actorparent1! So, let’s wait to see if any body was NOT passed but received a YES! That would debunk it for sure!
Our journey is ending for now, but that will be one less thread for the future parents embarking upon this painful ride.
You have a 1% chance to get into CMU in terms of raw applicants to MT/Acting slots.
Need to shrug that one off!
Our journey is coming to close to an end, but that will be one less thread for the future parents embarking upon this painful ride. CC has been a tremendous help to me, so helping the next class or at least trying is only right!
My D didn’t even apply to CMU and I feel all your pain! This will be us on Wednesday. I have to say we saw a show on a national tour last night and there were actors from all kinds of schools - the lead was from a school not considered top tier or even 2nd tier that I know of… There are so many schools that will give you the training you need if you stay focused and relentlessly follow the dream after you graduate. Best wishes to all this week!
No from Carnegie here as well! No surprise and passed to no extra rooms. Best of wishes to all for the rest of the week!
No from CMU and no extra rooms.
A dear friend of mine whose D is also going through the audition process sent this quote to my D the other day. I think it’s perfect. “Trust the Wait. Embrace the uncertainly. Enjoy the beauty of becoming. When nothing is certain, anything is possible.” Mandy Hale
No for D as well for CMU. Went to all 3 rooms in Chicago. Hoping we get better news later this week!
Does it ever happen that a student passes their audiition but doesn’t get into or is waitlisted for the college itself? II know some colleges give artistic decisions before academic (we currently have one of those.) Curious, since I have not heard of that happening but imagine it could.
Yes @collegemom2000 - it happens. I don’t know if they would “pass” the audition first but at the BU session, they mentioned they have kids every year they (the drama dept) want but they do not meet the minimum academic standards set by the University. They said they would inform those students and provide some options for possibly re-auditioning after doing some work to bring up grades and possibly transfer.
@collegemom2000 I’ve only heard happening a few times, and only at more academically selective schools that do artistic and academic acceptance separate (so not NYU, CMU, Michigan, though they are typically more academically selective). The only school I’ve heard this happening at more than once is Elon.
It happens at NYU, but applicants are not made aware of it. They would just get a rejection. But there is a list of acceptances for talent that is compared to the list of acceptance for academics. A bit of push and pull if a student is highly coveted because of talent, but usually it’s a rejection if their academics are not at a minimal level.
I’ve heard of students not academically getting into FSU, Michigan and TCU even though they artistically were competitive.
My S got an email from CMU today saying he was being recommened for acceptance into the BFA Acting! Does this mean he’s in??? He auditioned for MT not acting.
@latinaMTmom Well, I do think he is in for Acting. BTW I know of students in the MT program who later on transfer to the acting program, as you are still allowed to take singing and dancing classes. So congratulations!
Congratulations @latinaMTmom! CMU stated they were looking for a lot more MT’s this year as well as actors who could lean towards MT (they can sing) Very happy for you
Does anyone know when Emerson and Hartt will send out their decisions? I see some decisions had been snail mailed by Hartt but we have not received anything yet.
