Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

Anything from Priority Hold Texas State people yet?

Any word from Roosevelt today?

@jenrenalt No word but D did email and ask when would be an appropriate time to visit/sit in on classes. Kaitlin responded that PH people would be getting a status update the last week of March and accepted/waitlisted students would be invited to visit after April 1.

@jenniferm1973 haven’t heard anything- they said we should hear over the next couple of days… :frowning: :-S

@artskids Thanks! Still got a while to go :frowning: My understanding from her email is that everyone on PH was either accepted or waitlisted, do you think that has changed?

@jenrenalt It doesn’t sound like it this year but I’ve read in the past, the release PH students during this period as well. D didn’t ask that question and doesn’t want to send another message!

Update on us: So, some of you may remember that I have TWO kids going through this, my daughter and my son. My daughter is the high school senior with a lot of experience and training, whereas my son is already in college and decided on this path very late, without much training or experience. My son had a long string of rejections at the beginning, and after the first two I stopped posting about it here, because it was too depressing.

But today we got some very welcome news: my son was accepted to the BFA acting program at Brooklyn College! We are SO relieved and happy about it, because he was very worried he was going to get completely shut out! So thankfully, at least one of my kids has a program to go to next year that he’s happy about!

Meanwhile, my daughter and I have decided to start making contingency plans. She still has a few more schools to hear back from, but they’re very selective, and we don’t want to just sit around helplessly, waiting and hoping and then things turn out bad and we’re out of options.

So we’re trying to take some control of the situation. I’m arranging for her to sit in on acting classes at Marymount Manhattan, which is the one school she DID get into. She feels that Marymount won’t be challenging or rigorous enough for her, but she will sit in on the classes with an open mind and give it a try.

She was also talking to her acting teachers and asking for their advice, and they said that if intense, rigorous training is what she wants, a conservatory can provide that, and they recommended Stella Adler. So we checked out the website, and she’s going to apply and audition there.

I don’t love the idea of her not getting a college degree, but I do know that intense conservatory training is what she wants most in the world, and if she does go to Stella Adler, she will get that. Then she could always take classes at a CUNY College at very low cost, just to say she has a college degree.

Of course, she still has to audition at Stella Adler and get accepted, so it’s still a long shot. And we do still have a few schools to hear from. But I WILL say that being proactive and making plans and taking some control over the situation has made both of us feel much better, and not so helpless and miserable. I’m just hoping and praying that things work out for her, one way or another.

@actorparent1 Could your daughter go to MM and take acting classes over the summer? The William Espers studio offers a wonderful summer intensive. Industry professionals use them. My daughter wanted extra training because she felt her college wasn’t rigorous enough so she did a 7 week acting intensive between her freshman and sophomore years. Just a thought.

@artskids totally understandable! good luck!
Does anyone know if Roosevelt is notifying everyone via snail mail? Phone? Email?

I just heard that my D’s friend got the call from Ellon today.

@jenrenalt I believe letters have been mailed and online decisions are going to be released within the next few days.

@actorparent1 I believe Stella Adler is a nonaudition program, btw.

My son’s friend (a boy) was on Priority Hold and got a call last night for Texas State, along with another girl. I think she is planning to make 2 more offers. Then she will see who accepts and declines before moving to the other kids on hold or waitlist I guess. Hope that helps.

@mtmaybe, Stella Adler is auditioned for the full-time, 3-year program, which os what my daughter wants. It’s non-audition for the summer program and the short-term intensives.

@bisouu, that’s certainly an option! We’ll see how she feels after sitting in on classes at MM.

@actorparent1 - I wouldn’t discount Marymount Manhattan; it’s an excellent program - Annaleigh Ashford is an alum.

@actorparent1 congratulations on your son! I know that he was the one that you were concerned with trying to find the perfect fit. So glad to hear that he has.

I was looking over the Stella Adler 3 Year Program and it sounds AMAZING! If I knew that acting was all that I wanted to do, perhaps I would go that route myself. I’m sure that they have just as many connections as everybody else. If some parents weren’t so fearful of non-tradition, they’d probably allow their kids to go that route as well. I love that option. I also like that option in California. I don’t think you can go wrong.

Because I am feeling petty and bitter I am taking perverse please in unliking all the colleges that have rejected my precious daughter. LOL I’m sure their administration won’t lose sleep tonight over the loss of one follow - but I feel better.

Very obviously this process is getting to me.

@actorparent1 - I understand her worries about Marymount Manhattan but just want to point out that many of their students are working. The understudy for Ben Platt was from there and was phenomenal.

Maddie Baillio (Tracy in Hairspray LIVE) was a soph there - not sure if she is still in the program. Whether you liked her performance or not, that is still a pretty big deal being plucked out of MM to be the star of HS LIVE!

True, @buggirl74 , @Eastchestermom, and @LBSMOM…but it seems like their successful alumni are all MT students, not straight acting. I would love to hear Marymount success stories about people who went there for BFA Acting without MT! It would certainly make my D feel better.

She also doesn’t love the fact that on the website, MM brags about the fact that they’re NOT an intense program. They emphasize that unlike other BFA programs that have 90 credits of acting training, MM only has 60 credits, which allows students to take lots of required liberal arts classes and electives. Which is great for some kids, but my D wants the most intense training possible.

@emdcollege , I did the same thing! I don’t need to see FB posts about awesome things at schools that rejected my kid!
