@actorparent1 at the last minute last year my D applied to AADA in order to have a two-year conservatory option. She was accepted with a nice scholarship. I would look into that one as well as Neighborhood Playhouse.
@Dody5678 From what I understand, that’s how they have done it in the past - I’d be surprised if they changed it up too much this year.
@actorparent1 - does MM have more acting classes so that your D could take up to 90 credits (choosing the extra credits as electives) if she chose to? If they HAVE the extra classes, then it seems like MM would give her flexibility (if she discovered her love of some other subjects mid-way, she could focus on those instead- but if not- then she can take more intensive acting classes (or acting related classes like playwrighting, directing, etc).
@actorparent1 Stella Adler program is excellent. We know a couple of very talented kids doing the 3 year conservatory here in CA and they are thriving. I think that is a great option to explore.
@emdcollege LOL. I’m not laughing at you - just loving it! I never ‘liked’ any schools so obviously I didn’t care enough to begin with! I will like them AFTER we decide who is lucky enough to get my talented D!
Just fyi - I believe you do have to audition for Stella Adler summer training as well- at least in NYC
@nanama Our daughters sound very similar. Thank you for your feedback on Loyola. I think my d feels similar to yours about wanting a “better name” program, but I think Loyola Chicago will be a great fit. I heard from someone who saw one of the shows there that it was great. Cabaret (one of my d’s favorite shows) is playing on admitted students weekend so I’m going to see about going then. She doesn’t want to make any plans until she hears from 8 more schools, but I think it’s a great option. Let me know if you decide to visit.
So I know Pace has already made its MT acceptance calls…but has anyone actually received a letter informing them of waitlist versus rejection? I am going crazy with the no information–isn’t this the 21st century!
@Work64, my D has not heard from Pace either.
She also hasn’t heard from Ball State or Molly/CAP 21, both of which have already accepted and rejected other kids we know.
For those long timers on this board, has there ever been a discussion about suggestions we could put together as a community to make this process easier for our kids? I know this is a tough business. I totally get that rejection is just going to be a part of the process. As a mom to a D who pretty much has her plans set even though we haven’t heard back from everyone, my heart breaks for those that haven’t received any acceptances. I know the Seniors and Juniors in the Green Room as shocked at how difficult it was become to get into a MT program now. The process changes and becomes more difficult for some with each passing year. I just feel like I have to take all of this sadness coming from some of our members, and all of this knowledge from others and do something productive with it. For instance, for many families, it just isn’t feasible to apply to 20+ schools. I am grateful my child has grandparents that were willing to help to make her dream a reality but without them, we wouldn’t have been able to cast such a huge net to get the returns we have. I could see the tide of pre-screens coming as my D neared the age to apply to college and I was dreading it but now, it seems like one of the places we could start. Perhaps everyone should have a lowcost prescreen that is exclusive of application to the school. If you don’t pass it, you can’t apply. For us, it was tough to pay for application fees to colleges that D didn’t end up passing the prescreen…AND paying for those test scores to be sent as well. Anyway, at the risk of going on and on, I just wonder if there’s ever been any discussion about laying down some suggestions that we could pass onto programs.
@MTMOM17 The system seems designed for maximum torture!
Has anyone been able to figure out how to get their Pace artistic decision via their portal? If so, how?
@MThopeful2022 Pace sends out artistic decision via mail.
@fairlyoddmom This is torture. I think that one of the reasons why I started loving Syracuse is because they said “Send the prescreens, if you pass, then you can apply”. It makes more sense!
Regarding the process, my “venting” is about the torture that after being rejected by PACE (which was a low blow at the time) we kept getting calls from the university to see if we were going there. One time, I took the call and told them to get their act together and stop calling!!! Same thing with Texas State.
So… if we have not heard from Pace, (MT) does that mean for sure that she did not get an offer? Or is the jury still out on that?
@DramaMan yes I’m sure they eventually send mail and it seems some have received calls. I’m simply looking to know if anyone has found their status on their portal.
My thought is there is still the possibility for waitlist…but this is based on pure conjecture.
@0827NJ I will. Funny thing, their basketball team is making some waves in the tournament today. I am waiting on some final schools as well and then the spreadsheet with accepted schools, her top five most important needs (i.e. Minor, Private Voice, Sports, etc.), cost of attendance, and OUR final cost will be our drill down tool. I do recm’d revising the published COA to reflect the maximum housing cost. Colleges usually factor the minimum. None of our kids want the Pitch Perfect (1) shower. Lol.
@DramaRama Oh I feel ya there! My D got some nice scholarship offers for Pace. I’ve asked her to call and release all of the scholarship offers shes received from schools where she wasn’t accepted to the MT program. For some reason, Pace fell off her list and they keep calling her. She said she didn’t do it on purpose but that she is “low-key bitter” enough to let them hang a little. I was like…nooooooooo. You call them today!
@fairlyoddmom - I think talent prescreens prior to full on applications are the way to go. It’s not fair to expect people to spend the time, money etc when they wouldn’t pass a prescreen (even if just on type!). I felt that the schools that didn’t employ prescreens had more of a cattle call audition. Whereas the prescreen schools’ auditions seemed smaller.
However, I don’t agree that a “common prescreen” would be a good thing because in the normal application world- the common app has caused an explosion of application increases. If all you had to do was submit your common prescreen- we would end up with people sending prescreens to 30+ schools- with the super talented/trained/coached applicants effectively blocking everyone else from getting many shots. So while I agree that alternative prescreens are a pain, they force the kid to do a little more work to apply (which filters for the kid who is less interested).
