Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@BassTheatreMom @mandidnam @anotherBwaymom @MTMOM17 @MuddlingThru22 Going off the list of accepted schools I see that your daughters are accepted at U of Tampa - can you give me any insight into the school/department? We visited recently and I am ambivalent about it and want to know more. My daughter loved the people she met in the theater and dance department but wasn’t sure about the school itself and we didn’t get to meet or speak to anyone in the music / voice department. Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM if you would be more comfortable

FYI for those still waiting on Hartt decisions. We got a rejection letter today snail mail (auditioned at Chicago Unifieds) Perhaps ya’ll might get some happier envelopes today in those mailboxes?

@savedrama4momma So sorry…

@MThopeful2022 this one was so ok. It was our last one. We are so grateful for some solid choices… and we are SO ready to start moving towards a final decision. PLUS we decided this no will save us from a super traffic filled route north to CT. LOL

@MTdreamz let me know if you have any questions about CCPA. My son is an MT freshman

@4llth4tj4zz We auditioned for SMU on campus. Out of all my D’s rejections, this is one of the only schools she really is sad about not getting into. Many of their faculty members went to Yale School of Drama, they even use the same textbooks! Even though it’s in Texas and at a Methodist university, they seem to be very progressive in regards to the theatre department. They just recently did an all-female version of the Merchant of Venice with proceeds benefitting Planned Parenthood. There are also lots of connections the school has around Dallas, which does have a fairly active theatre scene. However, if you want a lot of MT this is not the right place. They do have an MT minor, but we were told by a student it’s more for people who feel very confident in their skills and want to keep in practice throughout college, not to learn new things in that field. Overall, a very strong conservatory program that is still grounded in a liberal arts education. Hope this is helpful!

@savedrama4momma I’m sorry to hear that. Our mailbox was still empty today (Chicago Unifieds also). Surely the last of the decisions will come in over the next week. Thanks for the update.

@emdcollege we ended up cancelling our Tampa visit after one of her top choices came in so I cannot be of help!! Sorry

@emdcollege My D auditioned in October and was accepted in November. We live less than an hour from Tampa. My D enjoyed the audition and campus tour. She knew one of the students from high school who is now in the MT program. The new dorms were great. My D enjoyed the auditioners and felt very comfortable when they asked her questions. I really don’t know a lot about the program besides what they went over that day.

@emdcollege we auditioned for Tampa in February. She was accepted a week later. I don’t know very much about the progeam either other than what we learned while there. My D liked the director a lot. And the campus is beautiful.

Sorry I can’t be more helpful.

Do most of the BFA programs have classes in set building and design, costuming, make up, directing, etc? I know I can look at each school’s degree map, but sometimes the classes are titled in a way that I can’t tell for sure what it is referring to.

I would think that they do, my son’s doe; he is a tech major.

One way to tell is to go into the college course catalog, look up the major and scroll through the course descriptions as opposed to just the titles.

@MTDreamz you will have to share your impressions of shadowing and the show. We are visiting BSU and Kent State next week. She is waiting on Western Michigan and if she gets good news from them we will visit there in between Muncie and Kent. Its one big spring break road trip. She was accepted into Kent State BFA MT weeks ago and that program seems really amazing (the musical was fabulous!) So this should be a very positive trip! Especially if Mother Nature takes a break on the snow!

Western Carolina audition yesterday finished up the audition phase. Another impressive program! There really are impressive programs everywhere.

Is anyone else still waiting to hear from Molloy/CAP 21?

@MTMOM17 we are also still waiting on Cap21

Thank you @collegemom2000. I hope we both get good news soon!

@kmmt22 my D has several good friends at Kent and one going next year (which is why she didn’t even apply - she is ready for a fresh start!) but I’ve seen a lot of pics on Facebook of them having fun! It was a rough start in the fall - not because of the program - just typical freshman college stuff - no sleep and not eating right so always sick. One came home and collapsed for a weekend LOL. So my D got a lesson that being on your own the first time doesn’t mean you stop taking care of yourself! Hopefully she will remember that next year but I doubt it. MT kids are so social and she will caught up in the fun until she comes home and collapses. Hahaha

My D received a No from Syracuse in an email on Friday and a No from Pace in the mail yesterday. She has been so strong but the No from Pace hurt. She spent two weeks last summer in Pace’s MT program and fell in love. We were hopeful until yesterday! We had 6 acceptances all by February and 8 No’s in the last two weeks!! Still waiting for two more schools.

Sorry @mandidnam - the schools they feel connected to really hurt, like a crush unreciprocated. We had 2 of those and they definitely cut deep. But after a week of mourning we were grateful for the 2 options she has (and she is lucky enough that these were the other 2 she has some connection to also). Sounds like yours has a lot of options so give her time to get over this and then she will find where she belongs! We are so close to the end…

@mandidnam congrats I wish we were in your shoes- my D received no’s from pace and Syracuse as well after going to both summer programs. It hurt especially since we have no acceptances. My hope is dwindling we are talking about a gap year- added a few late auditions but still hoping to get one Y from 3 remaining schools. My D is so distraught as all her peers are constantly talking about colleges and everyone keeps asking her where she’s going. Anyway I’ve been trying not to post because it’s too sad and disappointing - but I can’t imagine we’re alone.
