@MTdaughter99 YES! The SF factor is definitely huge! Everything my D wanted in a program is at CCPA but when she learned how much SF actually works with Ball she is changing her mind. Worries me… so I will ask her if SF announced she wasn’t coming here anymore, then where would you go? By the way - we get to watch urinetown dress rehearsal after the open house.
@CalebAM D was PH @Texas State and got an email a little over a week ago (via Acceptd) that she is on the waitlist as an alternate. If you haven’t heard, you should probably contact them since I believe they have notified everyone who moved from PH.
Congratulations @opera4me !!! My son loves CCPA. Everyone is very friendly and are like family to one another. The freshman have 2 showcases. One in September for the entire freshman class and one in February just for the MT majors. They can’t audition until sophomore year for Mainstage productions. However my son has been in several films outside of school and the freshman do crew for productions. He feels very challenged in his classes. Will you be visiting soon? I would recommend that your kids not focus on Sutton Foster in choosing where they want to spend their next four years.
Good question to ask. Or if she wasn’t teaching a class that you would be able to take? Or if she is cast in a show and has to return to NY? In any case, having this be a determining factor would be a mistake. A nice perq maybe but there are so many other things to consider when deciding which school is best, one individual should not sway the decision to any great extent.
My advice at this point of the process (who asked, right? Lol) is to visit the schools; connect with faculty, current (and maybe incoming) students, and maybe even parents; ask any question you can think of asking, then clarify if needed; and create some sort of spreadsheet and compare side by side (maybe with names of colleges removed).
Keep in mind, though, that visits can be misleading. For example, at my D’s visit to UArts, the head of the program was distracted during their meeting. Yet, in all other communications, he had been responsive and warm, and he has certainly been engaged ever since; it must’ve been an off day. I also witnessed a girl having a fit about how her dance teacher didn’t care about her, yet this is one of the top dance programs, and I knew that the faculty (including that teacher) have a reputation for being caring and personal, which is indeed what my D has overwhelmingly experienced. At another top contender for my D, a class was just watching some performance project “rough drafts” with no professor interaction, when we knew that this professor has the reputation of being involved and giving good feedback; D just didn’t see a great class for observation. (It turns out they got their feedback later, one on one, which, of course, my D never saw.) At yet another program, a student burst into tears because she felt so overwhelmed. (The professor’s kind response was telling there, though.) Now, should you try to figure out if these are normal or one-off situations? Yes! That’s why I think that interactions/communication with people in the program is important.
Also, keep in mind that shows you watch have different purposes. Some may be student directed, some may be workshop pieces, some are cast to stretch the actors, some are put on with very few rehearsals, and some may be an off production for that school. We never saw a bad production ourselves when we visited schools, but I have heard of others who have. Actually, a couple of the worst productions I have seen in colleges at a different time (not college visitations for my D) were at a highly respected program. I still think they have good training; I apparently just haven’t liked some of their productions, so much so that I didn’t care that D didn’t have the school on her list. That was actually unfair of me, yet had D liked other parts of the program better and included it on her list, I would’ve been completely behind it.
I know a few people on this board were accepted to Syracuse and Pace, but I didn’t their names \ on the MT College Acceptance list. If you were accepted to a college, please add your name to this list.

@Fergie978 - I’ve asked questions on this Board about Syracuse and Miami , but S was accepted to the Acting program (not MT). I asked here (as well as on the acting board) because I think a lot of the information about the programs are similar (though obviously not identical). So I obviously shouldn’t add my name to this list. I hope it is ok that I occasionally come here.

We are still waiting on Montclair and MSM. Seems like most everyone has heard from Montclair already? Where are you finding the decision? Maybe I just don’t see it on the portal. I have checked and they have everything needed.
Any word on MSM decisions - when they are going out and how they go out?? Very interested in this program and really thought we would hear from them by now.
t’s so hard to rank MT and Acting programs but right now not 2015 or 2010 after talking to quite a few agents, managers, casting agents and college audition coaches, I would personally rank them this way. It’s open for debate and this list doesn’t include cost which has to be factored in if your not one of those families that cost doesn’t matter. Some people might say a #10 school is as good as a #5 school and they probably could come up with a good argument. This is just as I see it based on talking to many people over the last 5 years.

Got the Pace rejection letter today. Really sucks. They offered us such an amazing financial package last October…we were really hoping for it. And his Aunt is an alumnus. Would have been a fun school to attend for my son. He even flew out for one of his 2 auditions. Just sucks. It has been rejection after rejection. Thank goodness he has a choice though. NYU is last then this will all be history.
@2lights I don’t debate this type of post because I think that rankings of these programs are
virtually useless. Everyone has their own opinion and you know what they say about opinions! The problem is that you are likely to offend lots of people here whose children attend those schools or who are hoping to attend. Each kid has to find the school that is going to be right for them. As someone whose grad has worked steadily with no ‘day job’ for the past almost 11 years (yikes!) and whose school you haven’t even listed in either category, and as someone who knows hundreds of actors and who has been involved in the theatre community for decades, I can say that trying to rank schools is a fool’s errand. Encourage your student to choose a school where they will be happy to spend four years and where they will get good training, and also which won’t land them in huge debt. That is the recipe for a good start in this business.
