Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

Regarding national tours…we know someone who was on the National Tour of Evita and then went on immediately to play Elphaba on Broadway. She didn’t suddenly get more talented because she went from one type of stage to another. You can’t be on Broadway all the time and pretty sure most actors would rather get paid acting than waiting tables. Just sayin’…you take what you can get when you can get it.

@MTdaughter99 we were there in the beginning of November. My D loved the small campus and felt right home. The staff and theater kids were so welcoming. We spent 2 days there as it was tech week and she had her portfolio interview (which was intense). I love the little town of Webster Groves and we explored St. Louis a little- went to The City Museum, as suggested by some of the students. Very cool place. She was unofficially informed of her acceptance a few weeks ago and just yesterday made the decision to attend and then we came home to her official acceptance :). Will your D be attending?

@toowonderful like you I am smh about @2lights comment regarding NYU, so much so that I have decided to not even respond to it. I love your D’s timehop! And I agree with all of your comments!

@theaterwork is 100% correct on this. My D had a few auditions and open calls for summer stock over the last few months. THEY READ RESUMES. In several auditions they mentioned to my D that they knew “so and so” from her school. Sometimes it is about connections - and I have always told her “keep your social media clean, respectful and cheerful”! You never know who is looking at it.
Also, to piggyback on the conversation that went a bit overboard. My D’s school was not on the “list” either and is generally overlooked because it is a BA program. She is a freshman and was just cast in an original play that will be performing off (off) Broadway this summer. The play was work shopped earlier this year and the cast is all college kids (small cast of 10). She is THRILLED at the opportunity to work in NYC for part of the summer and MAKE CONNECTIONS. You never know who might show up or who may be interested in the project. If nothing else it looks good on a resume AND PEOPLE READ RESUMES! Every persons journey is not cookie cutter and just because a kid goes to an “elite” school certainly doesn’t guarantee employment!

@LBSMOM when does the off broadway show run and what is it? I’ll send my girl and her friends to support it!

@LBSMOM And my D is dying to get off the waitlist at your D’s school! We consider it top tier for sure.

@belleforbroadway , same here for D. Waiting on 3 more; Syracuse, NYU, and BOCO! Looking forward to moving on as well. Nice to know we’re not alone!!

@birdygirl Your post is wonderful. Hang in there, everyone! You are in the home stretch. For those of you with kids on WLs I admit we didn’t have to go through that process last year, but we have certainly heard great stories about both moving on from WLs and never looking back and gaining admittance off WLs. There are so many great programs, and every single one of them has immensely talented kids and wonderful faculty to keep yours energized and growing as a performing artist. Best wishes to you all!

Totally stressing- waiting to hear from 5 Boco Hartt MSM Montclair and Ohio Northern. did not apply to NYU due to cost. Syracuse and Pace got the dreaded no last Fri- my daughter was devastated after going to the summer programs for both schools-felt extremely personal.
Since we have no acceptances (well technically one MT but my daughter won’t go and we never applied after the walk in) I’m totally stressed out with this waiting- I added Univ of Alabama (have to go in person…14 hour drive or fly which will be $$$) and digital submission to Belmont.
I do not know anything about UAB or Belmont- if anyone has any info I would love to hear about those programs- I keep thinking about the Tom Petty song–the Waiting is the Hardest part lol
Has anyone heard from HARTT this week that is still waiting? Thank you- this forum has kept me somewhat sane with what little sanity I have left after this process.
And just because I’ve been down in the dumps through this whole process- and I agree that sometimes a school does not define your ability or talent and sometimes they get it wrong- I’m sharing an article in Broadwayselect.com about my D recent performance in Follies where she played Sally- he had nothing but great things to say about her performance. check it out if you’re bored while waiting lol http://broadwayselect.com/newsreviews

pulling for you and D @Trish0118. Hoping for that good news to come your way!

What lessons of courage and trust are these gifted and talented kids gaining in the midst of a huge challenge! They will all bless a college whenever they go!

Oh for those that need to fly to see schools for final decisions or once your child knows they are going to an out of state for school- the app Hopper is great! It’s pink with a bunny. It watches flights for you and alerts you when they are at their lowest price. We have saved $$ and have been able to fly out to see our daughter twice this year. Plus her flight home for Christmas was not outrageous- becasue it was watching the prices for us.

I think we all need to cross our everything’s really hard for @Trish0118 today through Sunday.

The second half of my message got cut off… it said just try to remember, while this is so difficult everything does happen for a reason and somehow they all wind up where they are supposed to.

@birdygirl Love it! My D just texted me that exactly one year ago today she committed to her program. She reiterated how happy she is and how much she is learning. Last year was a crazy ride with many ups and downs but ultimately it worked out how it was supposed to AND she is happy AND she is learning. Take a deep breath Class of 2022…it will work out!

@Trish0118 I will PM you re Belmont when I get home from work. D has visited 3 times, so I feel like we have good info to share.

@Trish0118 - did you all apply to University of Tampa? I think they may still be taking applications and may let you send in a video audition. D has worked with a couple of kids who went there that were uber talented. I have not been there but hear it is a beautiful campus. It may be worth looking into.

Also, have you considered Western Kentucky University? You don’t audition into the BFA until your 2nd semester I believe. We have known a couple of kids who went there who are doing well post-grad. The school may be taking applications still. It is a nice sized university in a really nice town which is fairly close to Nashville.

I’m sure there are other schools still taking applications if you are considering applying to more. Just wanted to recommend those two for you to consider.

Of the ones you are waiting to hear from, I also wanted to mention we have a friend whose D is getting ready to graduate from Ohio Northern’s MT program. She has loved it.

Hoping you get good news soon!

@stmama Congrats to your Son’s Pace MT acceptance!! Is your D currently in Pace MT? Would you mind to share some thoughts on Pace MT program? Thanks!

@Lexparent: And here’s to us MT parents that have guided and supported our children so that they will bless whichever college/program to which they go. Take a bow everyone. Y’all ROCK!

@Trish0118 two thoughts…one perhaps look into SUNY Cortland? their last audition date is April 14. we have a friend there now who is a sophomore in MT and she applied very late the year she was auditioning. She got accepted & seems to be very happy there. It is a BA in MT.

I also will just comment on UAB, my daughter spoke with them junior year at SETC auditions & they were wonderful. She was SO tempted to apply but the distance was just too much for her to overcome . That being said they contacted her after SETC to touch base & she told the lady there (cannot recall her name now) that she decided not to audition since it was too far away. the woman was SO gracious to my daughter and the whole program seemed to be well run. We did not visit but just wanted to share something positive about our interaction with them.
