Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

Wow! Just learned that a critical document was never received by the admissions office at the last school we’re waiting to hear from. So, if anybody else feels that they’ve waited too long for a decision from any school, CALL. THEM! We were never told it was missing and wouldn’t have known if we hadn’t called to pester them about when we would get a decision!

Does anyone know anything about what it would mean if you are accepted into an MT program but deferred until Spring 2019?

@NewEngMTMom will they allow you to send the document in quickly? I hope so!

I have some questions for current BoCo parents. Anyone up for a conversation?

This is helpful. I am wondering about the curriculum at Syracuse . Is it intense. Do the students also take math, history , etc.

Help- Daughter got Purchase WL. This is very confusing because she thought it was NYU (in the lead) or Elon (in the running). SHE LOVES PURCHASE - and affordable. I
feel this is a school where there could be movement but have no knowledge. We found out by calling because they were so behind.

Daughter happy but confused and I grateful but confused. Any advice welcome. Even subjective opinions on the programs…

@milmom2 - my S is considering acting at Syracuse. He’s a singer but hates dance so he didn’t pursue MT (after some harsh prescreen results). Do you know how voice works for Acting majors? Is it something Acting majors take for credit (instead of electives) or is it just an add on? I think I heard that they have to pay something, but I’m more focused on how/whether it can logistically be fit in. Thanks!

@laylamom congratulations on Purchase for the WL and finally hearing something. I am telling you, they have been so slow with communications this season. I too love their price tag and my S loves their faculty. I wonder how you’d stack up DePauls Theatre School to Purchase other than location. My S also loves Purchase’s training

My D was admitted off the waitlist to SUNY Purchase 2 years ago so there is movement!

cluelessandtired…My D is at BoCo studying classical comp. Her roomies were all MT and I have sent students there as MT majors. I am happy to try and answer your questions…

@latinaMTmom I agree with many others here that my choice would be CMU. It’s a wonderful program, both acting and MT. For schools that are acting based, like CMU and Tisch, you’ll find many kids in the acting program/studios who are also very talented in MT. I’ve never known anyone to be disappointed making this choice.

@soozievt That’s so funny that Andrew was the tour guide when S visited. He’s such a sweet guy and very talented. And his family is beautiful!

@alwaysamom…Andrew is great. My daughter is performing with him again this year. They laugh that he was our tour guide back when we visited and she auditioned at CMU.

@cluelessandtired I messaged you about BoCo. My son is a singer first and just about to end his first year as MT major. I am totally up for a detailed conversation to answer as many questions as I can and maybe @1bamom can help out as well if you want a dancer/daughter perspective. Please feel free to reach out. I had so many questions at this point in the game too. I totally understand. We visited all his top choices and my son still struggled a bit with the decision making part of this journey. If you get a chance to go up to Boston, visit, have your kiddo sit in on a class or two, and then maybe stick around and offer to take a cute bunch of kids out to dinner to pick their brains. If you can’t read my message just post your question on this board and I will answer as honestly as possible. Or just post a ton so you can message back.

Thanks, @MomofMTBoy ! Just messaged you back. @1bamom , I’m still unable to send private messages (I think I might be after this, lol). If you’re up for a chat, message me.

Thank you to all who got back to me. Lots to think about. I guess I just need to figure out how much crossover there really is. I know it’s Carnegie and I hope I don’t come across as ungrateful…I am so grateful and so proud! But I know my son and singing is his passion. He sings 24/7. We are planning a visit real soon. That should help in making a decision

@cluelessandtired I just sent you a message. Bring on the questions! My daughter loves BoCo.

@robinmom

Freshman year they are required to take 2 writing classes- everything else is within their major. They have to fulfill I believe 20 more GE credits but they can pick any classes that they choose in that area. You can email the dept and ask for a copy of their curriculum guide. That is what we did last year. I would say Syracuse is 75% within their major and 25% GE of choice.

@MomofJ5 I just asked my son and he said that yes they can take private lessons once a week. I’m sure there is probably a fee involved but he said many Acting majors add on voice. The voice teacher will wait for their schedule and fit them in somewhere- that is how they do it for my son.

@DramaMama603 I’m pretty new to CC and just stumbled across this thread. I don’t know how to send a PM. Just spent about an hour trying to figure it out. My D just got accepted to Hartt. Can you PM me so I can ask you some questions?

I thought every school was supposed to notify you of their decision by April 1st? Is this true??

Has everyone heard, at least an initial decision, from all of the schools they applied to? I’m not talking about wait lists, holds or alternates, I’m just referring to an initial decision. Or are people, like my D, still waiting for an initial decision?

My D audition for Molloy/CAP 21 in January and still hasn’t heard anything.

@gingersnap97, see above post. Do you also have someone at Hartt? Could you also message me? And anyone who can shed some light on instructing me how to send a pm, I’d be much obliged!
