@onewaytobroadway you can’t send a PM until you have reached 15 posts and it looks like you just reached that.
@MTMOM17 - The schools that bring up the rear, every year, give us all fits. If it helps at all, my D finally heard from Molloy/CAP21 on April 8, 2014 - a date I will never, ever forget!
@MTMOM17, still waiting for a decision from Missouri State - both acting and MT. Received e-mail last week indicating he’s still in consideration and they will notify by April 5. We know they have already sent out many MT offers and waitlists. So again, you are not alone! (Although this time, it’s a different school!)
@laylamom There will be movement! S is in a facebook group for Purchase BFA Acting and isn’t planning on committing and neither is another girl who got in. Congrats and Best of luck [-O< !
@latinaMTmom My D was on the CMU WL two years ago, and we visited at that point - she really spent two full days attending a whole bunch of classes and meeting individually with the heads of three departments. All emphasized the co-mingling of the acting and MT students, and this was reflected in two productions we took in while we were there. The faculty struck me as very in tune and aware of each student’s everything! They also have strong training in on camera work, which I think is now an essential for any MT wishing to survive economically in this business. Their alumni network and overall connections can’t be beat. I shouldn’t advocate for one or the other – but I can’t help myself - with finances being equal, I’d choose CMU with zero hesitation – assuming that you S visits and responds positively.
@milmom2 that really helps to know about the Syracuse program. Her strengths are singing and acting. She’d like to become a stronger dancer while acting and singing. What does your MT freshman think of the Syracuse program?
@MTMOM17 My daughter is still waiting on Texas Tech.
I think at this point, it’s completely reasonable to call schools you’re still waiting for and ask if the notification has been sent out yet, because you’re trying to plan accepted student visits.
Thank you for responding @cluelessandtired and @yaycollege!
Thanks @EastchesterMom, that does help!
I emailed Hartt and received a rejection letter from who said that her letter was sent out today. I am going to wait for the letter and have my daughter find out that way. Darn. She really wanted to go there. And it seems like so many were accepted every day. Oh well- we are very grateful to have been blessed with the Fredonia BFA acceptance. Just waiting on Wagner waitlist and then we’re done!
@MTMOM17 still no word here from Cap21 either, so are moving on and no longer considering it as a choice. We have five nice options and going to make a decision by next week.
We are on Wagner waitlist as well. Any insight on if/when that WL may move? Also waiting on Western Michigan. Called today and was told they will release decisions by “mid-April.”
I have been following this thread for about a month and finally joined CC so i could post.
My D has been doing theatre for 13 years. She has been in 31 musicals. Taken voice from a conservatory level teacher. The Performing arts center where she trains has alums at all of the top MT programs in the country. She applied to 19 schools and got 0 acceptances to MT programs. 2 acting BFA acceptances. 1 of which is 70k a year and offering almost no aid. To say i am heartsick for my D is an understatement. This process is brutal and there are no guarantees. I have seen others with so much less training get into programs. It is just impossible to evaluate a students ability in 5 minutes. Not sure where we are going from here…
@theaterlove3 He absolutely loves it. I will be honest and say it’s a lot of work. They take 19 credit hours a semester and that doesn’t include time working on shows and ushering etc. Freshman year is non performance but they kind of need that to get used to school. What is really nice is that Acting and MT become one big family of friends. They follow a schedule where they are together all the time so they make instant friends and don’t have a time to be homesick. They are assigned Bigs to help guide them their first year as well which was really helpful in getting acclimated.
The one thing I have liked watching is they have pushed my son out of his comfort zone. He came home singing in Italian, just tested into ballet 2 and his acting skills are definitely advancing. Their faculty is top notch.
I am so sorry @MomOfMTgurl! This process is incredibly brutal.
@MomOfMTgurl - I am so sorry to hear these results. Which BFA-Acting school did she get into that isn’t the $70k choice? Could she go down that road and reaudition into MT, or take voice/dance? How much cross over is there?
@milmom2 -Thanks for the info on voice. regarding the Gen Eds, I called Syracuse and learned that they accept AP credits on satisfaction of those - which makes my S happy so he can take what he wants (maybe some film/communications classes).
I completely understand, @MomOfMTgurl! Last year my daughter also dealt with multiple rejections in MT. She ended up going into a BFA Acting program and it really is a perfect fit for her. She needs to work MOST on her acting skills, so the Acting BFA will give her the skills and experience she needs. She is also taking voice and dancing every semester. She is allowed to audition for ALL of the shows and is thriving in the program. There is a great synergy between the MT program and the Acting program. So don’t look at that as a negative, even though she may have wanted MT. The emphasis may be what she needs. Best of luck to your daughter!
My Hartt rejection letter came from Megan Abernathy, not Tracey.
@back2work I don’t have any info on the Wagner WL. Have you any info?
@MThopeful2022 yes, they were wonderful! It was LIU. Somehow they never received the official transcript D sent. The woman I spoke with was very warm and helpful and made me feel a whole lot less stressed about everything. Everything has been taken care of.
@NewEngMTMom I am so glad you got that straightened out! My fingers are crossed…I have a good feeling…
