My d did 6 on-campus auditions, none of them offered class visits. Two lasted about four minutes, no dance call, no information session, no tour, just two songs, two monologues and good-bye. The others included varying amounts of large-room information sessions with Theatre department and Fine Arts School reps (one did not include any Theatre faculty, just deans and administrators) that lasted up to one-half day including a tour (but some tours were only general campus, not specific to the theatre department). Some of the on-campus auditions offered warm-up sessions and interaction with faculty for the auditioning students.
Any CCPA MT Dance parents out there willing to answer some questions on PM?
Spending time with faculty and classes is one reason I loved (and still love) Coastal Carolina’s on campus audition process. It’s an all day affair. In addition to the group meetings, there are campus tours, lunch with current students and the professors, usually 3 master classes each student gets to take during the day (taught by the professors). And the auditions are done separately with the acting professors seeing the monologues and the voice faculty watching the singing. They have an awesome process and really get to know the students throughout the day.
Ditto to @stagedoormama Coastal was the most informative of all our auditions and meeting the faculty in the workshop environment truly sold the program to us.
@rgypsy - I added you to the group.
@jeanetteschneider, we are also down to U Arts vs. Wagner. Have you found any good sources of comparative information? We just got back from U Arts’ Admitted Students day yesterday and thought it was fantastic.
My daugher was accepted at LIU Post, Viterbo and University of Utah for MT. All three are schools I really don’t know anything about! (have a son at CCM). Does anyone have any info they can share to help us decide?
@back2work I would love to talk or even have our children talk. Maybe they can help each other decide
I have been reading posts from http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/theater-drama-majors/2066516-ccpa-at-roosevelt-or-uarts-class-of-2022.html and thereis alot of postive info on UArts. My D has 2 friends at Wagner and they can’t say enough fantastic things and having the proximity to NYC they say they are in city alot. Unfortunately we could not make admit 1 but have shadow day tuesday at Wagner and Thursday at UArts. D excited to see which school she feels offers the best training.
@reluctantmtmom1 My daughter spent a day at LIU, sat in on classes, toured, etc. She really enjoyed it, said it was a very warm environment, the campus is smaller (we are used to FSU which is huge, or city campuses) but next to being at Rider this one felt to her more like an actual college campus. And close to NY so you can get there and have the benefits unlike being in the middle of nowhere, but not actually in the city. Ultimately she is going to wind us somewhere else, but she definitely could have seen herself being happy there. Idk if that helped at all, but it’s something.
@jeanetteschneider, Yes, we’ve also heard wonderful things about Wagner! My D is not actually admitted to Wagner, but on the wait list. So our decision is whether to commit to U Arts while still waiting to hear about Wagner wait list, which seems like it would be the best move. We really loved everything we saw at Admit 1 and can’t find any reason not to love UA!
PS, I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts after your daughter does the back-to-back shadow days at both schools.
@backtowork Will keep you posted! They both seem to be great opportunities!
@back2work I definitely would suggest committing to Uarts by the May 1st deadline (if it is a school your D wants to attend), as waitlist notifications “typically” don’t occur till after May 1st. If she doesn’t commit to Uarts by May 1st and doesn’t make it off the Wagner waitlist, you would be stuck with no school to attend, which I am sure you don’t want. Best of luck!
Regarding Unifieds - My daughter had an awesome time and really got into the groove of doing one right after the other and loved it and loved the people she met. Great experience for both of us. Of course it’s exhausting, but so are on-campus auditions. I recommend doing both and mixing things up. You really can’t predict which one is going to work out better for you, so you roll the dice and cast a wide net. By the way, I could have never predicted that she would love it. In fact, I thought she was going to hate it!
Regarding sickness - My daughter is ALWAYS sick. This year we started Airborne every day and she didn’t miss a single performance, rehearsal or audition. Take the proper precautions like washing your hands and again, let the chips fall where they may. It will be ok. If your son or daughter does get sick, have them drink hot tea, use a steamer etc just to get through.
Just my 2 cents from experience!
My d preferred on site auditions but got her 2 acceptances at Chicago unifieds so who knows!
I know this thread is mostly for students currently auditioning, but I was wondering if anyone could provide info on Wagner’s summer intensive. I was recently accepted and was wondering if anyone who attended could tell me a little about their experience. Thanks:)
@mtmom222 we spent the day at University of Miami’s Accepted Student Day and absolutely LOVED it. What an AMAZING school and program!
Please reach out to me after your Shadow Day!!
Went to Montclair’s accepted student’s day today. And all I can say is WOW. I thought the program would be good but after spending time with students and faculty there I can say it is going to be awesome. The program is all about helping our children reach the end of the road with actual ‘jobs’. Many of the seniors graduating already have things lined up. I am now so excited for my s to be there in September. I hope everyone else has a great experience at their accepted student day. There is a school for everyone and everyone will find their school. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
“There is a school for everyone and everyone will find their school.”
Well said!!! I completely agree and I’m glad you had a great day at Montclair!
Anyone have any info about the Western Carolina MT program? Any parents of current students out there? Thanks!
