congratulations @Fergie978 so Thrilled for you! It feels good to be somewhere that makes you feel that you belong! I’m so happy for you all. Time to enjoy the rest of Senior Year together!
Can’t wait to hear the whole story @savedrama4momma !! Congrats on sealing the deal!
I finally got the acceptance I’ve been waiting for. As a transfer student, it was a rollercoaster of a process trying to keep up with school work and trying to audition. I faced a lot of rejection and lost hope. Yesterday, I got the call that one of my schools accepted me and is looking forward for me to be apart of the community. I cannot wait to start a new and happier chapter in my life. Muhlenberg Theatre '21! Never lose hope, there is always new chances and new school that need bright and talented students.
@savedrama4momma - That’s exactly what happened to us! We thought that the school my D chose (Rider) was “EVEN BETTER for her than the places she thought were her #1’s” (as you said above). If the doors that we wanted to through in the first place were left open, D would have felt oblidged to go there, but when they shut, we knew we were being pointed in the right direction for her. My D felt the same as your D - feeling like what you are doing what you are supposed to do and where you are supposed to be! I’m glad your D has found a place where she belongs.
@Fergie978 We have A LOT in common.
(just posted our final decision story). SOOOOOOO excited!!!
Congrats @musicaltheatre28 Muhlenberg is a fantastic program!!!
@musicaltheatre28 - Your story may help future transfer wannabes - please post in Final Decisions!!
Need some advice or opinions about scholarship negotiation. Wrote an email to D’s top choice school a couple weeks ago. One to the theater department and one to admissions. Heard back from admissions right away, no further scholarship for academics. Yesterday I sent follow up to theater faculty since it had been nearly two weeks and hadn’t heard a peep. Got a note back from head of mt letting me know that they had included D on a list of students they are considering for scholarship awards, but they are in process of confirming acceptances of scholarships already granted. He said they would notify me ASAP if funds become available and can be awarded. Should we hold off committing? We are going to commit thief regardless, but would like to get as much as we could. If we commit now, will they still consider her for scholarship? Does commitment affect this? Would love to hear some thoughts.
@onewaytobroadway One dept head I spoke with when I was looking for more scholarship money from a school that only gave artistic scholarships told me to please keep in touch with him, there might be more scholarship money the last week of April when some offers have been turned down, he would def want to give my daughter more if he has it available, but if we don’t decide to commit to his school or if she commits to another school he definitely can’t discuss it with me any further (not said in a rude abrupt way, just as an explanation.) Bottom Line was a commitment to his school was not going to take more money off the table if he had it to give.
@musicaltheatre28 - so great! Congratulations!!!
Crazy that the day i post my D’s final decision, she gets off the wait list for a different school. (She was going to notify her wait list schools today that she committed elsewhere- but they beat her to it!) anyway- she’s not considering anywhere else now that her heart is with Rider!! She’s a Bronc! So we notified the other school and i hope that means someone waiting for that spot can now get an offer ASAP!
I’ve alternately enjoyed (and been traumatized) by your kids’ journeys! My D recently transferred from Vocal Performance into theatre at Northwestern and has just begun taking her major classes. She texted me this AM “I literally spring out of bed for my theatre classes I’m just SO HAPPY”. Phew! Good luck to all your kiddos and may they bloom wherever they are planted. Even if they need a little transplant later.
Another rejection from Wait List school. Sigh! One WL left. D does have a decent place to go thank goodness as she does not want to take a gap year but we will both be very happy when this uncertainty is over. What a brutal process.
@“yaycollege!” My d is on the Marymount wl. We got mail from them the other day. I’m on the fence about whether I want her to come off that list, as it will just make the decision more difficult for her.
To clarify: the mail from the WL school was not to say she’s off the list. This letter came two days ago, the day before we went to visit one of her accepted schools. We have been told we likely wouldn’t hear either way until after May 1. I feel like it would be a similar fit (Marymount and U Arts) so I still don’t know how it will all play out.
Re: dorms: I told my d months ago that she will likely get the leftovers, due to the nature of the MT acceptance process (and who knew then, that we wouldn’t have anything before April 1st!!). She didn’t (and still doesn’t) care. She will just be happy to be in a dorm. I think we need to put things in perspective for our kids. I know they are living in this space for 10 months, but they are 17/18, and learning to be adults. Sure, it won’t be ‘home’, but they will make it work, wherever they get placed (roommates, on the other hand are a different story).
We are low maintenance; not at all fancy. We live in a 2 BR apartment, in the ‘suburban’ part of a big city. We all share one bathroom and have to do our laundry outside the house. I know that my child has no grandiose delusions of living in style for the next four years, much less when she graduates with a theatre degree and is taking a survival job to pay her bills.
@DramaQueen219 Re dorms - I think your D and you have the right attitude! IMHO, if these kids want to make it as WORKING ARTISTS, they might as well start getting accustomed NOW to life on a tight budget, which is likely to include accepting living in far less schmancy digs than many of their non-artist friends.
As parents, we’d probably be doing them a huge favor if we forced them to live in the most bare-bones dorms available at whatever school they attend–and pick a bare-bones meal plan that they can substitute with ramen, LOL.

(oops - typo alert - make that SUPPLEMENT with ramen!)
@DramaQueen219 and @katew529 my husband and I joke a lot about the culture shock our daughter is going to face come August. We live in a small town and she has it pretty darn good in our opinion. Her own oversize bedroom and a bathroom that magically cleans and restocks itself. She has stayed in the dorms where she will be attending so at least she has an idea but that was only a week not 10 months. I fed her ramen recently so she could get a taste of how it is going to be and she had an allergic reaction so we have to find some alternative. LOL I think she is just so darn excited to start the journey that we should get at least the first year without complaints on living conditions. And then hopefully she will be so in love with what she is doing she won’t notice.
@mom4MTsoprano, hang in there!! Almost there!
@DramaQueen219, really nice that the WL school sent an update. Haven’t heard from his WL schools, but that’s OK because he absolutely loves his current choice and we think it’s the perfect fit for him. Ready to commit as soon as he receives financial info!! Can’t wait!
