@emdcollege I will send you pics of my son’s dorm last year so she knows those rooms are a dream! He was in a tiny room in an old building with 4 boys (you can imagine the stench!). The roommates were partiers which made it worse - he would sleep on other people’s couches just to escape! So my d knows how lucky she is that she will share a room with one girl in a new dorm with a dance studio and black box in the basement for the theatre and dance majors. And she LOVES ramen noodles!

@bfahopeful Ball State. If you go on their website their is a video tour of the dorm by the way - city schools like point park and roosevelt also have dance studios in the same building as dorms. But it is not common for a campus like Ball State
@katew529 Preach! Just spent many hours over the past week apartment hunting in NYC with my S and his (once and) future roommates. They will be living in seriously tight quarters but having a number of roommates is the only way to make it work financially. They share a college house now with 2 other people so think they will be ok with so little space. I’m feeling a bit dubious!
About these dorm options - at DePaul, the 2 old dorms have “community bathrooms” - professionally cleaned twice a DAY. The newer dorms have suite-style rooms where 4 kids share a bathroom - which THEY have to clean! Oh, boy! Either way, I’ll check out the room on drop-off day and trust it will all work out fine. :-h
@Atreuh - I’d go with the community bathroom that gets cleaned 2x per day. There is no way those boys will clean their suite bathroom enough…yuck!
@MomofJ5 - I’m with you! I can’t imagine those suite bathrooms get a cleaning twice a YEAR!
Based on my d’s freshmen dorm experience:
- Girls don't necessarily clean their bathrooms any more than boys.
- "Daily Professional Cleaning" may leave a lot to be desired (but is probably better than the alternative...).
@Atreuh ugh ohh I didn’t think things through lol I thought a 2 person roomie with private bath was a good thing. Perhaps I need to reroute on this. Ugh! lol thanks for sharing
@EmsDad - I agree! I’d make the same choice for my daughters. They won’t clean the bathroom either.
I have been reading this thread and some other MT threads for school specific info for awhile but this is my first time to post and it sounds like I won’t be able to PM for a bit too. I truly appreciate all the information so many of you have provided - it really helps! I have twin daughters going through the process to find their MT home as part of the class of 2022, and I have a few questions. Has anyone heard back from Texas Tech? I saw one post where a classmate of someone had received an offer but have not seen much more discussion than that. I have contacted the TTU Theatre dept but there was not a clear response on notifications. Is May 1st pretty much the decision date for most schools and is it specifically related to accepting the financial aid? Is the acceptance done differently for different schools (through email or a college online screen or something else)?

@TXmom2MTDs several of us have been chatting about Texas Tech. Not only have our children not been notified (personally I’m assuming they called their 12, but honestly my daughter forgot she hadn’t heard from them bc she made her choice the first week of April anyway and luckily they weren’t even a factor), but our kids have contacted THEM as recently as this week and been told “they are in the process of figuring out notification it I don’t know where they are in the process.” I find it pretty disrespectful to applicants to not bother sending a notification by this late date.
Texas Tech actually only takes 6! My daughter knows one of the few girls who was accepted last year.
6 Acting, 6 MT, so 12 total. I’m sure those 12 know already!
@bfahopeful I actually watched the video about the Ball State dorm last night - not only does it have tie dance studio and black box, but also has sound proof music rooms with piano and keyboard and computer for editing music, and a room with all the equipment you need for kids studying architecture or set building. Also has a computer lab with all software provided free with a printer AND a workout room, and kitchen on every other floor. Oh and each room has 2 good size real closets (rare in a dorm). So… a good place to look into if you want to be spoiled! Haha
