Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@DramaMamma my d has been waitlisted at a school who hasn’t finished audioning yet

Back on the acceptances list… In my real life, first job - (you know - before the second job of shepherd and sherpa to an auditioning MT kid), I’m a research analyst. I have found the acceptance list for every year to be a treasure trove of information for trying to figure out when we might hear something from various programs. (There was one year that people were posting their submission date, audition date, and notification date) I too have the moments of worry and wondering if we’ve done enough, but in the end, I think the information is useful. And, I am very happy for those that are lucky enough to know they have a spot at a program they’re interested in.

@dramamama2022 The “still under consideration” or “deferred” are probably not waitlists (although I know at least one school has used the words “waitlist” even though they are still auditioning). The holds are telling you that your student is still being considered but the schools need to finish the audition process. Generally, once the auditions are complete, the offers and waitlists will be developed. I say “generally” because in this process, for every rule, there are 10 exceptions!

Also, I enjoy reading the final decision lists and following the acceptance lists each year. The final decision thread is particularly helpful at the beginning of the process to set expectations. CC is a great place to know others are going through exactly what you and your students are going through. Unless someone approaches me about their kid who may want to go through this process, I don’t really answer the question “how many, which schools” any more because it takes way too long to explain and it always feels defensive.

I’ve also heard some program heads advise against CC. D does not follow CC (of course - the kids have their own FB groups) but I am grateful for the advice and support.

A lot of programs use the term waitlist even though still auditioning. To me the only way it is a true waitlist is if the candidate will take a specific spot in the program if a specific candidate does not accept their offer. Otherwise what happens if the class is not filled yet as they are waiting on other auditions but it turns out they like the kid on the “wait list” more than any of those who auditioned later? And so they offer the wait list kid. Well then, the kid was never on a wait list. He or she was one of the offers for the initial class size.

Some schools use the term wait list to indicate an interest in the person. That would be more like a “priority hold” to some schools. All so opaque.

I think it would be very helpful to students and parents for their to be a clear and unified set of terms. But frankly, I think the schools prefer the process to be opaque. It is important for the program to look highly selective as that factors into their reputation and ranking. So they will never let you know what their true yield is, and they want you to really want that offer.

@laylamom Hi. I totally understand you bringing up the acceptances list; it generates a lot of emotions, as does this whole journey. For me, though, I like research things, much like @speezagmom, so I found the lists and stories from last year, tremendously helpful. It’s one of the only ways to channel the anxiety! It definitely helped us to identify more target and safety schools, instead of just the big name schools. I find the stories fascinating. I try hard to approach the boards the same way I would if I were talking to someone in person. With candor but consideration for others. I do find it super generous and helpful that people share both their rejection letters and their acceptances. So, since I was grateful to FIND information from reading those who went before and during our journey, I will share our (its really my D’s story), in an effort to help the next class. It’s a bumpy, hard road, that only folks like you can understand! I am truly in awe of all the kids and parents who take this on.

How can a school Waitlist before they finish auditioning? It’s an odd choice of terminology but certainly it is fairly positive. It means they are interested but can’t determine until they see the full pool.

I like checking the acceptance list…mostly for the same reasons some others have stated. It’s a research tool …i like knowing when folks have heard results as then I could reasonably think D should hear something soon. I’d rather know then not know…but that’s just me. I think being in the dark and left to wait and wonder would actually cause me more anxiety! Plus I get to cheer the others on!

I am not sure if you have heard this, but Ithaca has sent rejection letters to some who attended NYC unifieds. I confirmed this with a generic call to Ithaca.

@FourStars, i can confirm from personal experience that Ithaca has sent some rejection letters and Otterbein has sent “still under consideration” emails. Has anyone gotten feedback from other schools that they auditioned for in NYC?

Rider extended some offers yesterday via their portal.

Has CCM MT rejected, accepted or held anyone from NYC Unifieds? I heard of a few people getting rejected the following Tuesday and Friday but I have nothing yet.

On a closed FB page, one parent claimed a rejection for MT that I believe they found on the portal?

My D auditioned for CCM at NY Unifieds but we have not heard anything yet either @dontaskme1.

@FourStars rejection from CCM?

@FourStars I agree with your wondering about the waitlist. It’s like “we like you, but we’re waiting to see what else comes along”. And, she got it for both (acting and MT) programs. So did her friend (acting only for her, she didn’t audition for MT). I suppose it’s better than a NO, right?

AND, we got the financial package from the school too.

^^^YES a waitlist beats a no! Also nice to get the financial package at this point. Oftentimes, those come much later!

Regarding Rider, two years ago they sent out a lot of acceptances early, then sent out acceptances and rejections in drips and drabs. My daughter and several others on CC did not hear until the very end(late, late March) and most of those were rejections.

Re the waitlist - rejoice and be glad if your kid lands on one. In 2014, a CCer’s D was waitlisted at UNCSA. She remained on that waitlist for months. In May, she committed to another program. Guess what – in AUGUST she was accepted to UNCSA off the waitlist. She went to UNCSA, and the rest is history – this girl has it ALL, tore up the turf at UNCSA, and will be a big star in the very near future. Lesson: you never know… waitlist dreams do come true!

Child auditioned at CCM January 21, and has not heard yet. I’m going with no news is not bad news!
