@EastchesterMom or other parents- I love that UNCSA story (although it also stresses me out a little) ha! I have a question since this is my first kid applying for colleges- so how does it work- May 1 is the deadline to commit, right? So if you commit to a school, but then get off of a waitlist or something comes through that summer and you change your mind- how does it work? Do you just lose your deposit to the school that you committed to? And in the MT world- Is that super frowned upon to tell a program you changed your mind once you already filled one of their “spots”? I guess that school would then perhaps have an opening late in the game for someone else on the waitlist?
@savedrama4momma - don’t forget, you are the customer (although it sure doesn’t feel like that with colleges most of the time…). You can change your mind any time that you want, but you may lose your deposit. Students come off waitlists all the time and switch schools, sometimes as late as August or even September. You should always do what you consider is in your best interest, the schools will always be able to fill a slot if they want to. You won’t end up on a “blacklist” or anything like that.
What @EmsDad said!
@savedrama4momma Another thing to make note of too. After your child is accepted and chooses a program sometimes they will transfer after a semester or first year. Just some more food for thought to make your head spin.
Has anyone heard anything from UM or Point Park yet? Are they true to the March timeline? Or do people hear before?
UM (I assume is U Mich) and Point Park will announce decisions all at once.
Yes, @artskids. Thank you! It’s odd how some schools are already extending offers and others wait. This process requires a lot of patience!

It’s a no from CCM for my girl. She auditioned at NYC Unifieds 1/21 She knew it was a long shot but it still stings and I hate that she found out in school when she checked her email.
@emdcollege. I am so sorry to hear about CCM. Like you, I don’t love them hearing at school, but in that regard, we have it the same as regular students. It’s just more emotional after auditioning live in front of someone. Watching your child hurt from rejections is brutal. Thinking of you. Just remember, it only takes ONE for a match.
My daughter got her rejection from her first choice school mere hours before opening night of her final high school musical, Mary Poppins, in which she played the lead. It was brutal. But you would never have known it seeing her on stage that night, and I was never more proud of her. Hugs to you and your daughter. The nos are hard, but fingers crossed for the perfect yes.
My D and I are preparing to head to Chicago Unifieds. Can anyone share how we find out about walk ins that may be taking place there? If they line up with some of her down time, we might do it.
@MTplayer from what I gathered at NYC you have to go from school to school and ask if they are accepting walking.
@MTplayer Yes, the only way is to walk around the floor and politely inquire if they are talking walk-ins. Know your availability before you ask, in case they offer you something.
@MTplayer Here is the scoop for Chicago Unifieds. - you will find schools doing auditions primarily on three or four main floors. Each of these floors has a main lobby area where all of the schools will leave materials. There are usually boards set up with with bulletins and notices posted. Many of the schools with significant walk-in availability will post information in these areas along with where you can find them to go and sign up for a time slot. In addition, as has been stated you can walk the halls on each floor looking for walk-in opportunities. Even take time to check the evening before because some schools leave a sign up sheet taped to the door. When you check in, request the sheet at the desk which tells you all the official schools that are participating and where they will be holding auditions - that way if you have specific schools in mind you can head directly to their location and see if they have openings. Don’t stress - you will find walk-in opportunities galore - just be very familiar with your booked schedule ahead of time so you know when you have open time and go out and grab those spots!
@CTDramaMom, that stinks that she found out that way (and at that time). Where did she end up?
For Chicago Unifieds, if you google, you can see floor plans of PHH. I was checking my reservations on the app, and happened to see that there was a floor plan, so looked online. I was there 5 years ago with D1 & the place is enormous! Lots of small hallways off the main areas. The hotel might have floor plans printed? I can’t remember!. It makes much more sense once you’re there. Break legs all!
Thank you all for the helpful info! So, they don’t care that you haven’t completed an application to their school? I assume most deadlines have passed based on apps we already submitted…
@MTplayer No it’s fine. Often after the audition they will encourage the student to go to the web site and apply as soon as possible. This may or may not indicate anything so be sure not to read too much into it. But there are stories every year of kids who end up attending schools for which they auditioned as a walk in. It’s up to your level of interest in the program after your child auditions to decide if you want to follow through with the application. My daughter was accepted to three walk-ins last year so you just never know. Although she didn’t end up choosing one of them, it was definitely nice to have additional choices to consider.
@MTplayer - some schools may have you apply right there (Webster does this for walk ins); others I have heard will follow up with kids they are interested in and strongly suggest they apply quickly. Bring a check book so you can pay an application or audition fee should they request one (for walkins - as you hadn’t previously paid).
