Thanks @minniemouse143 My son was accepted into honors, but not the undergraduate research. He didn’t get the 2k either. So, I was just curious.
Did anyone apply to Stamps/Lombardi?

@ufalumn1997 -hi there! My daughter was nominated by her guidance counselor for the Lombardi. If she gets it, it will push UF to her top choice. She loves, loves to travel and she would get a lot out of the summer travel trips that the Lombardi scholars go on. Fingers crossed over here!!
@LakeAlto my son applied and it would also be the thing that would push him to UF without a doubt. I wish your daughter the best of luck!
My son was accepted:
OOS
1540 SAT
4.5 UF recalculated GPA
many music ECs with leadership role and state awards, about 100 volunteer hours, a couple of academic clubs and a state-wide science award, 1 varsity sport
NMF (hopefully)
He was not accepted into Honors. This is his first choice school so will almost certainly be attending.
How many Lombardi scholars do they choose?
Was any OOS scholarships granted along with acceptances other than honors?
@partyoffivemom - last year they chose 8 Lombardi scholars and 3 Stamps scholars. At UF, the scholars are treated the same. So 11 in all for last year. I think it was ten the year before that, but I’m not sure.
Our son made it! Heading to campus next week to closely scrutinize housing options! Congratulations to all here who made it! For those that didn’t, keep your chins up and think about reapplying again next year. UF seems to really like transfer students.
@LakeAlto @ufalumn1997 My son was also nominated for Lombardi/Stamps! Nobody turns that down if they get it lol. Fingers crossed for our kids! This will be a tough one though!!
Your attitude is better than mine about the process. What seems to happen, is OOS kids with far lower stats than our in-state kids have been accepted. Not for PACE or summer B, but for regular admission. Our in-state child with high stats was flat out denied with no alternative offer. Meanwhile, she’s been accepted to Clemson EA with merit aid, FSU with honors invitation, USF with same, Auburn and Alabama with merit, UW Madison with Merit, NC State (they offer very little merit), and UGA EA. Explain then, how a kid with an SAT in the 1200’s, a less than stellar GPA, and very few EC’s gets accepted. To add insult to injury, many of these kids sole focus is a desire to go to UF, and they are not offered an explanation as to why they were denied. Yep, we’re angry too and have every right to be.
Not classless at all. The comment was spot on. These are not little kids, but young adults. If they can’t handle a little criticism, how are they going to handle life? Our daughter was rejected, and has the maturity to accept the decision. She would like to know what she could have done differently, but recognizes you can’t win them all. She views it as a learning opportunity, that will benefit her in life.
Not everyone gets a participation trophy.
Our daughter would like to do the same this week. if you’re able to, would you please post here with the outcome?
@mfd0513 I believe the answer to the OOS question boils down to 1. Money 2. Yield.
I see your point, but from what I’ve seen on this, as well as other forums, is that many of the OOS kids were accepted with much lower stats than in state kids who were rejected. It would be an easier pill to swallow if the accepted OOS students were comparable. It seems in some way, UF is attempting to boost their ranking in any way they can. An example would be U of Michigan. It is well known it’s extremely difficult to get in whether in or out of state. UF could be potentially shooting themselves in the foot by accepting mediocre applicants from outside of Florida. I understand there are many factors involved in rankings. While they may gain the recognition, they also may develop a reputation as an easy school to get into if not from Florida.
@mfd0513 I agree with your points. I don’t know if UF has reached the status where they are attracting the number of high achieving OOS students that Michigan, UVA, UNC, etc. are attracting. If they are not yet, then it is a supply/demand situation and to yield the # of OOS students that they want, they have to accept lower achieving students. That is, until such time as they attract more higher achieving ones from out of state.
The in state yield rate is very high at UF, so they simply cannot accept all of the high achieving students that apply from in state. The Bright Futures and Pre Paid Tuition have served their purpose in keeping high achieving students in state, hence the dramatic increase in rankings of UF, FSU, UCF and USF. Most people say why pay $40-70k a year for a UVA or Michigan if you can go to UF for less than $10k a year?
mfd0153 -I wish our DS had that kind of maturity. She still refuses to tell her close friends that she got rejected from one school. She got in 8 with scholarships in 6 of them. Emotional maturity is the single most important factor in their future success or failure.,
Accepted!
Congrats to all of those who got in! And from the ones I have seen that were rejected, I am quite shocked that you guys were rejected. Some of you definitely had outstanding credentials that I believe should have got you in. I guess admissions just keep getting even more random and confusing as the years go by. Do not let this one rejection define you! I am positive you will be accepted somewhere else where you will be able to succeed and make UF regret their decision! Keep your head up!
I agree. UCF’s stats and competitiveness just keep increasing. My daughter didn’t even think about going out of state. Bright Futures and state merit scholarships are keeping her here. UCF is also commutable to all so our daughter can be debt free if she drives from home. We are trying to get private scholarships so she can still get a dorm so she isn’t driving all the time but we definitely have more affordable options in state.
@mfd0513 Based on what you have reported about your daughter, it is a surprise that she wasn’t admitted. She has enviable grades, scores and ECs. The mystery of UF’s holistic admissions process persists. Did she show interest? Visit and go on an official tour? Was the essay specific to UF? I’m not trying to defend the decision but kind of brainstorming… On paper, seems like the type of student UF should want. My daughter got into one of the bridge programs last year and I think part of the reason was a great essay and she was passionate about UF as her top choice. There’s much more to it, of course, but I think UF looks at many more factors and data points than other schools. And sometimes, they miss! I’m glad your daughter has so many fine choices, and it sounds like she has the right attitude.
She has a 28 year old brother and a 30 year old sister. She’s had the benefit of watching them navigate through life with successes and failures. Fortunately, she paid attention and has learned a lot from them. Our son really put us through the ringer, so I guess we deserved a break because we’re old and tired- lol! She’s never given us the first bit a trouble, and handles all of her responsibilities on her own, unless she really needs our help. Don’t worry, they all get to that point sooner or later. With her it was sooner and with our older two it was much later.
