Class of 2023 MT Artistic Acceptance Notifications: How/When/Where

@MagsmomMT2019 You should write to Dave directly and ask! He seems very friendly and approachable. Are you comfortable doing that and reporting back? If not, I can “ask for a friend!”

@DramaLlama18 It would be really nice if CC had buttons for “LOL,” “Eyeroll,” “Shaking head,” etc., so we could express ourselves more fully…just sayin!

@DramaLlama18 since my D is on their waiting list and very much wants to be off their list, I think I shouldn’t email and ask him.

@BWmama :)) 8-| :open_mouth: The emojis are actually pretty decent. They’re to the right of where you type…

edit: But now that I think about it, I think you mean so that we can do it on a post like on FB… instead of just having like and agree. oops… 8-}

@MagsmomMT2019 I would encourage her to reach out and just ask nicely or, if there is a department coordinator to to contact, reach out to them.

@TexasMTDad Well, I didn’t even see those over there. I’m a first-time astigmatism contact wearer and I haven’t adjusted to distance or close up!!! :))  B-) Well, I can kind of see them.

I see lots of parents posting that they’ve contacted the schools to ask questions. So yesterday I emailed someone to simply thank him for giving our daughter a FaceTime tour of their campus and facilities because we can’t get out there to visit. It was really nice of him to do so after she requested it. He responded and flat out told me that he prefers to never hear from parents, because the kids should be advocating for themselves. He was friendly and reassured me that my D is extremely talented, but that his decision making process is very difficult. I have been sick ever since. I wasn’t poking or prodding or asking anything… I simply said thank you.

Just passing this on. I would let your kids email or call and ask for themselves. I would die if I felt like me contacting a program made the difference between a rejection or acceptance.

Having said that, this process is awful. My D has two full acceptances from auditions at Nationals this summer, but they aren’t high on her list and she’s not especially excited about them. She applied to 16 other programs. She weeded out a couple after that, auditioned in person for 6 at unifieds/on campus and the others were online auditions. She has received a few no’s and we are waiting on seven more. Seven! I just want this entire process to be over… and to know where she is going next year. So. Stressed. Out.

Congrats to the new Point Park Acceptances! My D is a freshman there, and is loving the program!

@AGMomma That’s great that he wants the kids to contact them, but my D is in school everyday and doesn’t have the freedom to call during business hours, along with all of the homework and conservatory and …it goes on. So that is not always practical. I think sometimes they forget that…or they don’t have teenagers. Whenever I have called, it’s always just been to the admissions office and I think I have only talked to students. I don’t think there’s any harm in that.

@AGMomma - hugs. I get why the faculty member responded that way and I also get how horrible it made you feel. I don’t think you’ve jeopardized her chances by writing him, but thank you for sharing your experience so other parents know some schools really want to see students advocating for themselves. Hang in there - the process takes time and it is awful when you aren’t even sure what kind of program your kid will be in next year - if at all. This time last year we had 3 BA acceptances and nothing but rejections on the BFA front. I really feel for you and all I can say is - step back and try not to pin your hopes on every next decision. Building a career is a long process, have faith that your D will do exactly what she is destined to do no matter what this year brings.

@Divamamacita She did reach out. They were very vague. Basically said, you will find out on 4/15 if you have come off the list.

@CaMom13 I totally agree! We have reassured her that no matter where she ends up, she has the power to create her own path! I jsut want this waiting game to be over… that’s all!

@BWmama I get what you’re saying! I don’t even see my D everyday until 10pm because she’s in school all day and then rehearsal until then for a show she is in.I guess if you just call the general department and ask questions that would be fine.

Hi: Re Ball State: my D received a call earlier this week that she was on the priority waitlist. We love Ball State, so we are hoping she comes off the list!!

D got a snail mail letter from Belmont (another no) today.

Also strangely got an updated financial aid award from Ohio University where she was a no for MT but invited to do the BA in Theatre - the new award had another scholarship for talent. I guess they thought she was good, just not good enough…

Emerson anyone?

@ZukAndSowash My D got a No, but the letter said it was based on her grades and that she can reapply after one year with a B or better. Unfortunately, she had a little bit of a problem - okay, a big problem - with this one math class last year. That really created a problem. It kind of sounded but for that, you would have been in ----at least that’s how I’m going to remember it B-)

Does anyone know how many get put on the U of AZ waitlist?
Does anyone know when they notify you about movement on the waitlist?

@BWmama same here. Sounds like the same email. Didn’t even mention that there was an audition. I’m taking a nap!

@Marty9312 Last year my D was on the U of AZ waitlist for MT and Acting. She was notified the end of Feb. and we visited in March. By the second week in April she got an email that the spots were filled. We were never given a definite number of kids on waitlist. All correspondences were via email. Fingers crossed for you!
