Class of 2023 MT Artistic Acceptance Notifications: How/When/Where

@AGMomma yeah, I have my son contact the schools every time for that reason. I want to teach him that he is an adult and responsible for himself… and I suspect that schools hope that the kids can act independently at this point because their parents can’t go to college with them.

@BWmama @ZukAndSowash - same ‘no’ here and same letter but my daughter has an A average so think it’s the same letter for everyone.

@BWmama @ZukAndSowash @frisbee3 what program at Emerson were those letters for? I’ve seen some Theater and Performance acceptances going out according to the timeline on their portal, but I’m waiting on an MT decision and haven’t received any notification of a portal change yet. Wondering if they might be on different schedules for different majors???

MT

@TexasMTDad I have absolutley nothing to do with any of my D’s college stuff. I have no passwords, portal passwords… nothing! She is extremely independent and a total self-advocate. I guess what threw me was that I was simply thanking him. He didn’t seem irritated I contacted him to say thank you, but it definitely reminded me that we should think before we have any part of this process. Thankfully my D is independent and outspoken… we live in Oregon and she will be very far away next year!

Accepted to Emerson!

@AGMomma no intent to offend, if that was the way you took it. I have really had to control myself to let him do the work because we just want to do it all. I agree that I would have been devastated if I got a comment like that.

@TexasMTDad I took no offense! (I hate that people can read into these message things! haha) Yeah we have had “hands off” for the last two years. If she wants this, she has to do the work and really be invested in the process. I literally emailed to say thank you and then felt awful afterwards. I was just sharing on this board in case it helped nudge anyone in one direction or another with all the talk about contacting schools. Wishing everyone here good news in the next couple of weeks!

I got a no for the MT at Emerson, but accepted into the Theater and Performance!

Drake is notifying by email…son received his first BFA MT acceptance! <3

Yay @21stParent !!! You only need one!!!

@21stParent congrats on " breaking the seal":slight_smile:

@CaMom13 & @NYYFanNowMTdad
Thank you both very much! It felt so good to see the email put a smile on my son’s face. Yes, we need only one…that we can afford. Have to get the final scholarship breakdown but the email came with a talent scholarship. :slight_smile: Hopefully, he will get some more acceptances; it would be nice if he could have choices. However, we are very happy and grateful to have this acceptance…I have a big smile, too!

Oh this is crazy, no sooner did I post that, my son came out to tell us he received another email and he was accepted to Arizona State BM Musical Theatre! I love March 14th! They said they can’t offer him a scholarship at this time, though. (I think they mean talent scholarship)

Btw, he was a Chicago Unifieds walk-in for Drake and he sent in an electronic audition to ASU.

Re: University of Miami. a new topic was launched a few days ago on the University of Miami MT forum for Class of 2023 discussions.

My S is a sophomore (Class of '21, BFA MT). I can add a couple finer points to what was already posted recently. Not only is it Spring Break week, but the Senior Showcase is in New York City. The head of the MT program is deeply involved with the showcase, so it’s not just the matter of it being a break at the university. Given history of the past couple years, best guess is decisions will be sent some time next week.

Regarding class size, this year’s freshman class of 22 was an outlier. The program aims for a class size of 14-16 students (about 60 in the program across all classes). I think they were surprised at the acceptance rate for the Class of '22 (22 students) compared to previous years. My S speculates that they will make fewer offers to the Class of '23 to make sure they get closer to the target class size. The program is designed (and staffed) for the smaller class size.

For comparison the current class sizes are 14 Seniors, 9 Juniors, 16 Sophomores, and 22 Freshman (61 total in the program).

@21stParent Awesome news!! Double congrats!!!

@21stParent quick go buy a lottery tickey!
