I don’t know if anyone has gone through this but any insight would be appreciated. My D originally did not request summer session as an available choice. She was recently accepted only into the 2+2 plan. I then emailed to have them consider her for summer start at UP. How long do you think it will take to get an updated decision? Hopefully someone went through this already. Thanks. Happy holidays.
I was accepted almost three weeks ago but I never got anything in the mail. did that happen to anyone else?

[Question] When he pressed the Accept button, got this message in a box,
By proceeding with this online acceptance process, you are agreeing to your offer of admission to:
Semester Fall 2020
Campus University Park
School Education
And below the box says,
“Your offer of admission as a first-year student will remain intact provided you do not attempt more than 17 total post-high school graduation credits at a regionally-accredited college or university. Attempting 18 or more credits post-high school graduation will result in your application being re-evaluated as a transfer student”.
Do you know what this mean? He is high school senior. Is it saying don’t take more than 17 credits in a college after graduating high school but before entering PSU?
Thanks
Sometimes students take dual enrollment courses or college courses(especially students living in Philadelphia or near major universities), and this is saying if you already have a certain amount of college credit that you should apply as a transfer student instead of a first-year applicant. There are other scenarios where students take a gap year and took online classes in the process or something. I doubt that this applies to your son though, congrats on the acceptance!
@frc609 Thanks for your explanation. Yes I don’t think he has more than 17 credits. Thanks
@YS1111 Yes, I think your interpretation is correct. I don’t think Penn State is talking about dual enrollment credits. They mean college credits taken after high school graduation. However, that statement is rather confusing, as it would be hard (impossible?) to take 18 credits in the summer between high school and college.
@ace0919 The admissions office closes tomorrow, and will not reopen until after new years. Usually, the admissions offices are quite quick when it comes to reconsidering an application. I have friends that were accepted the very next day after asking to be reconsidered. I also have had friends that had to wait longer to hear back. I would say you should expect to hear back within two weeks(not including winter break), but it could be longer(Be persistent, I would make a phone call and follow it up with an email). Another thing to focus on is the major that your daughter applied to, if she applied to a competitive major she should ask to be reconsidered as DUS.
My daughter got accepted into the summer program as a DUS major. I was surprised as her stats were higher than some other people we know who were admitted to communications at UP for the Fall. She applied DUS as she wasn’t sure if she wanted communications or business and this was the advise of her admissions rep.
Her GPA is 3.677 with a 1310 on her SAT and a lot of dual enrollment college classes. She is not sure she wants to start in the summer due to some other commitments.
Has anyone ever either emailed their admissions rep or called admissions to ask them to reconsider to a fall start possibly even changing to a communications major and if so which would you recommend and did you have success?
Are PSU decisions released over the weekend? or weekdays only…?
The same thing just happened to me and I would 100% accept it if they reconsidered… What did you say when you talked to someone on the phone? I think I’m going to call and/or email for reconsideration as well.
@winnieisfluffy , typically they do release decisions at midnight Friday into Saturday but then not again until weekdays. (No Sunday news). However, they are closing for the holiday so it remains to be seen if any decisions will roll out as we approach the 12/24 deadline or if they will have already notified everyone. Decisions are not expected over the break and will resume in early January, so we are told.
not a rant, but a real question.
Why does everyone check summer start if they come back and ask to be reconsidered when that is what they were offered? Why even check it in the beginning?
Is it buyer’s remorse? Had they not checked summer and been offered 2+2, would they come back and be happy with a summer start?
There have been many posters extolling the summer start (self included). Why is it so dreaded?
As a side note, UP is no joke. There are many kids who will be successful, but I see lots of kids dropping at the last minute before late drop (mid-November), because they are getting a C (or worse!) in a class. Part of me thinks … if admissions offers you summer, maybe it is a good idea. Maybe it is a money grab, but maybe not.
I would encourage all of you offered summer to stop and really think about it before you have the knee-jerk reaction of “how do I get re-considered for fall?” It may be the difference between knocking it out of the park and being on base.

I send my application in october and i have heard nothing, Does anyone know why this might be?
@305tilliGraduate They still may be processing applications since their date is Dec. 24th. However, having said that, I would put a call into Admissions and double check that they have received everything, that you are still an EA candidate. If those are all positive, I would expect something in the next 24 hours (they are closed next week and I would expect all updates by tonight).
Accepted!

It was a very long wait but very relieved!
@lucyvanpelt , probably failure to do adequate research. In theory it sounds great, but for parents (especially OOS), that’s a huge pill to swallow financially. Maybe they should have a pop-up screen that reminds people of the costs prior to having them select it as an option?
Note to aspiring Penn Staters (and please excuse the soapbox): The best lesson I’ve learned through all of this: students should go where they can be successful and not incur a ton of debt. If PSU feels you need to start in the summer, do yourself a favor and start in the summer if you can financially afford it, or go the 2+2 route like 60% of all PSU alums.
Going to your “reach” school can be a disaster. You imagine yourself tailgating, partying, being part of the larger PSU community. That’s all good, but the reality could be quite different. Some kids don’t get to participate in all that fun because they are hanging on academically by a thread while racking up a ton of student loan debt. We are die hard Penn Staters, but even my daughter said she’d probably have enjoyed her college experience a lot more had she gone some place easier or started at a branch campus–but she wanted that big PSU University Park experience. Students get weeded out. Period. If your stats are on the lower end, you might end up being that kid, even if you put in the extra hours. Just something to think about.
