Class of 2024 Early Action Thread

This is what I’ve heard too.

@UMich4567 I’m told by my kid, other UMich students and parents that a transfer from LSA to CoE isn’t that difficult as long as you fulfill the requirements. And not every student wants a transfer from LSA to CoE or Ross. There are students transferring OUT of Ross and CoE, which is relatively easy. Also, there are other Schools at UMich like Kinesiology, Nursing, Public Health, Social Work, Education, Information, Public Policy, etc.

And as I mentioned above, changing majors within LSA or within CoE is relatively easy. During orientation a couple years ago, parents were told 75-85% of UMich freshman will change their major at least once. One of our student panels had a student who had changed their major three times. And we are also told, assuming prereq’s were fulfilled (GPA, courses, etc.), UMich tries to accommodate as many students as they possibly can.

BTW, Ross accepts between 100-125 cross-college transfers per year. There are no cross-campus transfer statistics available that I’m aware of that will tell any of us the acceptance rate to Ross (or any school). If you do have statistics, then please post a link.

Also, my name here on CC is sushiritto, not sushiritti.

@PeaNuTOT Please start a new thread for yourself. This area isn’t a “chance me” area. Thank you.

Does anyone have a sense of how long it takes for transcripts/rec letters to show as “received” in the UM Enrollment Connect from when they are sent? My GC told me they show as delivered on the 16th from Naviance but they still show as missing in the portal. Thanks in advance!!

I am an awarded artist who has done two commissioned murals for my school and is currently working on an ap drawing and painting portfolio, I have also been nationally recognized for my French standardized testing scores on le grand concours. I am trying to write my essay to show that LSA can offer me the excellent education in comp sci/machine learning that I want, while also allowing me to pursue a minor in art and design and take other classes like language that interest me. Is that a good way to put it? I’m referencing classes, urops, etc

@rossx2 that was for you haha

If interested in applying for Comp Sci through L&S, but minoring in business through Ross, which school do I need to apply to on the Common App? L&S, and then later add the business minor? Or do I need to first be accepted to Ross to even minor? Thanks

Has anyone else already submitted? How long does it take to get an email back from UMichigan with U-M ID information?

@ellanella it took 8 days for mine to come

Will do. Thank you for your suggestion.

It took 7 days for my son. However, transcripts were sent the same day and they are still not “received” according to the portal which is somewhat concerning.

@tigerbeat Apply to LSA, get accepted, and then apply for the business minor with junior standing meeting prerequisites.

Question- my daughter already sent in her EA and recently she found out she is being interviewed for a magazine for the organization she created. Should she email our local rep or is that overkill?

I would contact admissions. I don’t think it could hurt anything, just help!?

I would not contact admissions…they have 40k applications to go through…

@Mimigirl I wouldn’t send it until the article is actually published.

UMich does not superscore for any tests, FYI. Your 1370 is what will count. Average unweighted GPA around 3.9 and SAT mid 50% is 1380-1540.

Yes, there should be another thread specifically for ‘chance me’ applicants! Let’s keep this thread for important questions about the application and the university’s resources (and general questions of course!)!

Welcome to the season of the "Disappearing Decision Tab."

I’m sure some or even many of you have heard that the student’s “decision” tabs in their UMich portal will disappear a few hours/days before they get their UMich decision. It’s normal and often, during EA, leads to good news. The disappearing decision tab does not affect RD applicants.

Unless UMich fixed it this admissions cycle, it’s just one of those UMich EA only idiosyncrasies.

^It happens for EA applicants who are deferred to RD as well. At least it happened for my kid.
