Class of 2024 Early Action Thread

@Umichhopeful333 Those are very, very good stats. All I can say is that you’re “in the hunt.” Good luck.

You have a chance, don’t give up just yet! You’re better off than me; I have a 28 ACT and a 3.5/4.0 UW… The only thing I am confident in is my extra curricular, volunteer, and leadership positions and my essays were pretty good according to the feedback I got from teachers and peers

I (and my son) were on 2 years ago, when he was accepted EA from OOS. Two years ago, they seemed only accept or defer, no outright rejections. My son was the only one from his school that was accepted EA and about 18 were deferred many had higher SAT scores than he did but he had rigor and high UW GPA at a highly competitive private school. There were posts from that year on a UMich Parent page that said that they do not reject in EA first round and other parents seemed to agree with them. Nothing of note this year except the one person who was noted earlier who said the decision would be Thursday per a lunch or dinner with a friend in Admissions.

My daughter attends a public school where historically they have several accepted EA and the rest deferred per her counselor. She only wants Michigan and to join her brother, she is right in the middle of those accepted over the past 3 years on her schools scatter plot, so we are hopeful but also staying grounded because it is competitive.

My bet is on today, but I know nothing.

Does anyone know how much they consider grade improvement. I had 3 Bs freshman year (3.63) and then 1 B sophomore and Junior years (3.88) which levels out to a 3.8. I also got a 4.0 for the first marking period of senior year and sent them to my rep. 34 ACT so I feel good about that but the GPA has me worried.

@dunkeyminion It’s definitely better than having a downwards trend. They will definitely take it into consideration if they are comparing you to someone with the same stats; however, a higher gpa is still a higher gpa

Great stats! You have a great chance! Don’t lose hope now!

thinking again about the release timing (hopeful its today) and thinking if historically (last 3 years) it came out a weds. - Many IVY students will also know this and wait for their withdrawal until after decisions are released. It would be strategic for UM Admissions to wait until tomorrow, so they panic and withdraw when it is not released today.
This is me overthinking here.

T -1 hour

…or 25 hours.

I don’t see why any kid who’s gotten into an ivy would ‘freak out’ if u mich results didn’t come out today? I think the only reason to wait would be to give u chiacago ed acceptances (which comes out today…in a couple of hours actually) the chance the widthdraw… that’s about it though

Are you OOS? Also yeah, I think my ecs are pretty strong too…founded an ngo that got some media attention, finished 3rd in a national economics Olympiad and stuff…but others in my school are applying with 43-44 ib predicted scores (my school doesn’t give out 45s) and I’m stuck on a 39 haha

Rutgers EA comes out tomorrow! My DD applied to Both colleges. Hope she doest hit double rejection as her SAT is 1360 but GPA is 4.9, excellet Ecs, essays and recommendations!

No need to wait til 3PM EST. If no announcement on Twitter by UMich admissions by 2:15PM EST or so, we can pretty much assume it won’t be today.

Chance me? COE In-State
ACT: 34
GPA: 4.23 Rank 11/~450
ECs: 2 Varsity Sports Captain, Run lawn care business, church youth group does a lot of volunteering, NHS

Do you think I am still the correct portal if it says nothing about decisions or December 24?

@Cookiemonster18 if you go to the umich website that talks abt enrollment connect, make sure you click the second “enrollment connect” link. The first one leads somewhere else for some reason.

It says for me that last year the tweet and Facebook post about the decisions being released were at 4:15 central time.

Son’s high school counselor said decisions will be out tomorrow afternoon.

That said, we’ll know in an hour.

Correct. It hit Twitter at 5:15pm ET, even though decisions had already come out 2 hours earlier

Wrong. It hit twitter at 2:16PM EST. See below.

“Decisions are going out! EA applicants, check your email in the next 24 hours - it takes awhile for our system to send them all. Or find your UMID in the application verification email (check your spam folder) to log into our web App Status portal. Welcome, #Victors2023!
2:16 PM - 19 Dec 2018”
